In this first‑person testimonial, Nayan Kalyankar recounts her 20‑year career at Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE). She joined in 1995 as a Graduate Engineer Trainee, spending nine years in engineering roles on diverse projects and gaining exposure to technically competent peers in an open, learning‑focused culture. In 2004 she transitioned to corporate HR as part of a company initiative to bring line‑people into HR, viewing it as a challenge that broadened her professional skill set. She attributes her long‑term success to two main factors: the presence of highly skilled engineering colleagues fostering technical excellence, and the freedom within TCE to choose career paths—whether in design, project management, or technology—while maintaining work‑life balance. Throughout, she expresses enthusiasm for the supportive environment and personal growth she experienced at TCE.

Hi, I am Nayan Kalyankar. I joined Tata Consulting Engineers way back in 1995 as a Graduate Engineer Trainee. As any GET would have a dream of joining a reputed organization, even I had a dream of joining a Tata Group company and that too in core engineering. So in that case, when I joined TCE, it was a dream come true. When I joined TCE, it was such a nice environment, learning environment, that in first 10 years I worked on various projects in capacity of a specialist engineer and a project engineer. Later on, there was a corporate initiative to move line people into HR so that they can build an HR function using their business acumen. I took it as a challenge and I moved to corporate HR in 2004. Later on, it has been a rewarding experience in terms of my growth as an all-round professional. My stint in engineering of 9 years and later on in corporate HR has built me as a competent professional in TCE. So I would say that why it was possible for me to be successful in TCE in last 20 years. So I could say that there are two things which, which were a kind of reason for it. One is that I was always surrounded by technically competent, the best of engineering professionals around me. They were striving for technical excellence. And in that case, I had always an open culture, a learning environment all throughout. Second, I had freedom to choose what I want to be in TCE. So if you join TCE as an engineering professional, you can choose to be a design delivery professional or a project management professional or a technology expert. So all these opportunities are available right within TCE. Almost I can say that every day I've worked in TCE, I've gone back home with a very satisfying experience. In that case, I would say even TCE provides you a kind of environment where you can learn and at the same time have a work-life balance. I am lucky that I joined TCE and it was my career, the beginning of the career in TCE.
