What happens when employees participate in their company's mission of community service? In March 2015, a large number of Tata Group employees demonstrated their enthusiasm while volunteering for different community events in and around Mumbai region. Employees of Tata Housing visited the Victoria Memorial School for the Blind in Tarddeo. They played cricket with the visually impaired children who bowled them over in a keenly contested match. The students also demonstrated their talent in music by playing in a music band. This was followed by a musical game of Phantakshari. The Sakina High School in Chembur has students mainly from the slum areas. Tata Power had installed computer learning stations here. A computer quiz competition was organized by Tata employees, which was well received by different teams of students demonstrating their computer skills with excitement and enthusiasm. Volunteers of Tata Consulting Engineers organized 2 days of career counseling in their premises for the youth from Antaraag Foundation. an NGO working towards building self-reliance of the youth from poor socio-economic backgrounds. Senior executives from Tata Group interacted with the young visitors and provided insights into multiple vistas for building successful careers.
I got a lot of ideas from these people. I got a lot of good suggestions.
I was having confusion, but now it is clear.
On the auspicious occasion of Goodie Padwa, a group of Tata employees visited an old age home in Bhayandar. Celebrating with the elderly, Tata employees brought out excitement and cheerful expressions through music, songs, and games. This was followed by sharing a special lunch in keeping with the traditional New Year feast.
And I think through actions like these, we are demonstrating that we identify with the community We understand their issues, their expectations, and we're trying to see the role that we as Tatas can play in improving conditions in the society we live in.
One small volunteering act can inspire many more of your colleagues to volunteer. So I would encourage many more people to come forward and volunteer in the future.
These events with employee participation has made a lasting impact on both the community members and Tata employees themselves. Spontaneous acts of caring and sharing for multiplying happiness.
