Nir Eyal explains how to 'turn your values into time' by explicitly scheduling activities that reflect the attributes of the person you want to become. He recommends asking how that future self would spend time on self-care, relationships, and work, and making conscious trade-offs so external demands (boss, kids, media) don't decide your priorities, thereby reducing regret.

You talk about building a schedule around your values. What do you mean by that? I define values as attributes of the person you want to become. The way you do that is that you turn your values into time by asking yourself how would the person you want to become spend their time taking care of themselves, taking care of their relationships and taking care of their work. So you're always going to have more things that you want to do in that day than you have time for, and that forces you to make those trade offs. But that's the only way to live a life without regret. Because if you don't do that, if you don't decide how you're going to spend your time, somebody's going to decide for you, your boss, your kids, the media distraction. Some distraction is going to take you off track unless you decide in advance what trade offs you're going to make based on your values.
