What tactics do you use to master internal triggers? Are there short term fixes or is it better to focus on long term solutions since the triggers seem to be deep rooted in cause?
One thing I've done that's been very, very effective is use what's called the ten minute rule. The ten minute rule says that you can give in to any distraction, but not right now. You're going to give into it in 10 minutes and your job for those 10 minutes is, is to do what psychologists call surf the urge. These internal triggers, these uncomfortable emotions, they crest and then they subside. They're like waves. 99% of the time by the time those 10 minutes are up, I'm back to doing what it is I said I was going to do. And then before you know it, what you've done is you've proven to yourself, wait a minute, I do have control. I do have agency. I am in control. These emotions aren't in control of me.
