Seth Godin explains that creativity isn't about chasing outcomes. Focus on your craft instead. Christopher Nolan made Memento and Tenet by detaching from results and practicing consistently without abandoning his day job.
Disassociate from the outcome and do the craft. When Nolan made Memento, which is one of the great movies of all time, I don't think he thought he was going to win the lottery. He just wanted to make the next film. And I think when he made Tenet and it was terrible, that was part of being him as well. So don't quit your day job when you got five kids and a mortgage and student debt. But yes, spend four hours every Saturday working on your craft without regard for whether you're going to win the lottery.
