Well, welcome. This is Paula Rizzo and I'm joined by Juliet Murphy, who is an executive coach and who was able to get herself some media, which I love to hear. So Juliet, thank you for joining me and telling me all about your story here.
Thanks for having me, Paula. Glad to see you again.
Yeah, of course. So, okay. So tell me a little bit about the content that you've been putting out into the world. Blogs, videos, what kind of stuff are you doing?
So what I've been doing is I've I've been using HARO, H-A-R-O.
Yeah, Help a Reporter Out.
They ask for experts. I would submit, and I've been fortunate in that many, many, many of my articles got accepted. And so for that reason, I have a good presence on Google.
Ah, okay. So this is stuff that journalists are asking for an executive coach to talk about something, and you're raising your hand and saying, I could talk about that. So you're putting yourself out there like that.
I put myself out there like that. And also too, I have like a Yelp presence as well. That also helps. Yes. So when, when, when it brings you to the first page of Google.
Oh, what a good hack. I love that. So do you have people, some of the, some of the clients that you work with, you have them write reviews on Yelp?
Absolutely. Absolutely.
I have that idea. Huh. Okay. So tell me about any other content that you, you're producing yourself, or are you doing blogs or videos?
I had written a few blogs, um, but I haven't done that recently. I'm picking that up again. So, but I have on, in the past written, written blogs.
Mm-hmm. Okay. And so, but your most recent exciting media hit that you just recently got, tell me about that.
Yeah, that was so exciting. Um, I got an email actually from CBS asking if I would be willing to are willing to partner with them. And when I got it, Paula, I was so shocked that I thought it was— it wasn't real. I thought it was fake.
Sure.
So I looked at the email, I saw the logo, everything, and I responded back. I said, absolutely, I'd love to do that. And the first version fell through. They— I got a notice saying, hey, you know, we wanted to do it, but it fell through. And I just said— and they were very apologetic— and I said, That's fine. You made my day by simply reaching out to me.
Even this, yeah, this is great. So what were they asking of you? What were they— what did they want?
I'm sorry?
What were they asking of you?
What was the— They were asking if I would be willing to partner with them to coach one of their guests on the show. There's a show that goes on, Vivica Fox has a show and it's called Face the Truth, and they wanted to know if I would be willing to would you partner with them? I almost fell off my chair. Yeah, no kidding. I'd be willing to partner with them. And so I said, of course, you know, what is that? And so that's what happened. But the first one fell through, and I thanked them. And a week and a half later, they came back and said, we have another one that would like to consider you. Are you willing to partner with us? I said, yes, where do I—
of course. Totally. And so they had found you through one of the media outlets that you had been featured in.
They had actually found me on Google.
Wow.
They literally found me on Google, which, for which I was pleasantly surprised. But this is not the first time I've been found on the media on Google. Huh.
So what is the strategy there?
The strategy, I think it's just taking, you know, taking good care of your clients. And serving them well, going beyond, you know, I oftentimes go beyond what they pay for, but, or beyond what they think they've paid for, right, and serve them well. And I also stay in touch with them, I follow up with them, and so they give me good recommendations with testimonials. And so what happened was when they found me, they went onto my website, they went on to my LinkedIn, and they saw that I had a lot of testimonials about the way I serve my clients. So that's really how it happened. It seemed almost like a fluke how it happened.
Wow. That's great. So that's really good advice. So to be able to, anytime you work with clients, ask them for testimonials, put it on LinkedIn, get it on Yelp, like you said. Wow.
I love this.
So what happened? You did the video. Yeah.
So what happened was, you know, there's a contract and everything and They— the promotion was, I wasn't physically on the show, but the promotion was to highlight my services. So they— my logo, my company logo was on the show, and they announced that Juliet Murphy, executive career coach in Orange County, will be providing the services to— executive coaching services to help you as you go through your career planning and get you back in the workforce. So, and I mean, this person was not exactly like a high-level executive, but at the same time it was, you know, they needed professional career coaching and I had that opportunity. There was a link to my website from the show and, you know, just seeing my logo. I was so excited to see my logo. Wow. That's so awesome.
Have you? Of course. Oh my gosh, that's so wonderful. So have you seen any traffic to your site from that? Have you noticed more people coming to you or asking questions or saying, oh, I saw you on such and such show?
I haven't seen that, but I noticed that I've been getting— there was a little bit of an increase in requests for speaking engagements. Oh, I'm hoping to leverage that.
Yes, that's wonderful.
What I will also do too is that I will be leveraging The fact that I was on this TV show, 100% to hype my own business. So it was just a phenomenal opportunity that I really believe what helped me though was participating in that media, in the media outlets, you know, HARO and always providing career coaching advice. So that really gave me a strong presence.
So I'm so excited. I'm so excited for you. This is awesome. I know in the past I've seen some HARO requests that I've sent to you and said, hey, this is perfect for you.
Perfect.
Yeah, I'm glad you're doing it. Of course. Well, thank you for sharing this. I think this is going to be really useful to a lot of people who are looking to be out there. But look, this is how it happens. It could be that.
Yes, it's the thing though, like, is to really be vigilant in keeping a presence, an online presence. A lot of people shy away from it. And I think it's really important to do that. Because I knew that once I started blogging for my business, my clientele, I mean, it just increased exponentially by just doing that because then you're seen as an expert.
You're exactly, they see you're the go-to. Oh, I love it. That's so great. Thank you, Juliette, so much for sharing.
Thank you, Paula Rizzo.
