Peter Winick argues that thought leaders fail to gain traction because their work isn't accessible—it's not where their audience can find it—and it's not obvious—the core message isn't simple enough. Distill your ideas to their simplest form without dumbing them down.

Hi there, it's Peter Winick. I'm the founder and CEO of Thought Leadership Leverage, and today I wanted to talk to you about a struggle that I see authors and thought leaders and speakers and such dealing with on a fairly regular basis. And the struggle is that it's also clear to them, it's also obvious to them how their work can help people, how their work can have an impact, how being exposed to the way they think, to their models, to their frameworks, to their methodologies could unleash so much. However, because it's kind of stuck in their head or they're too close to it or they're a little bit more technical in the way they tend to communicate, it's not getting that traction. It's not getting connecting to people or isn't connecting to people in a way that would unleash the power that it potentially has. And when I look at instances like that, I think, well, actually, There's really only two reasons that that is so, and number one is it's not accessible. Is your work out there in places that those that need to see it, to hear it, to read it, etc., can get it? Is it accessible? And then the other is, is is it easy for them to understand? Is is it obvious, right? So you have to make something accessible, and then you have to get it to the point of not diluting it down to something silly or pedantic or whatever, but make it really. obvious. Get it down to its simplest common denominator. Get it down to a way that is relatable. Get it down to a way that really, really makes it seem that there's no other way to think. Why would you do anything else? Why would you consider another way? So again, if you're struggling a little bit to get the traction that you'd like for your work, for your thought leadership, make it accessible. Make it obvious. Thank you.
