Some vs Most. Do you know when you're which?

Peter Winick explains why copying someone else's successful strategy often fails: you need to know if a tactic works for some people or most people, and whether you're actually in that group. Book launches might help a few, but LinkedIn posting works broadly, though not for every niche audience.

Hey there, it's Peter Winick. I'm the founder and CEO at Thought Leadership Leverage. And today I'd like to share with you an idea or a thought or an experience that I had based on a few conversations that I've been involved in over the last couple weeks. And this is knowing when you fit into a category that I will call some and/or a category called most. And knowing when you're some and when you're most, I think, could have an incredible impact on on your business as an author, as a speaker, as a thought leader, as a consultant, as an advisor, etc. So let me unpack this a little bit. Oftentimes I see really smart folks replicate a tactic that someone else used that worked really well for them. So, so-and-so did this when they launched their book and it worked for them, and then I did it and it didn't work for me. So you get to talking and you get to thinking and you say, well, certain things work for some but not for most, and certain things work for most and not for some. So the question is, or the issue is, knowing when you fit into the category of some. Hey, someone else used this tactic and got an outcome that I would be happy with, but do I have certain characteristics, traits, situations, et cetera, that are parallel or similar to that person so I would fit into the some group? If not, it's not gonna work, right? So then I would fit into the most group in that situation, and for most, That tactic, that strategy doesn't work. Therefore, you should pass. Now, there are other situations where the opposite is true, where something works wonderfully well for most— posting consistently on LinkedIn, using video, et cetera— but it just doesn't work for some. And there is a chance that you would be some in that situation. Maybe for some reason, the folks that you're trying to reach don't look like somebody else's clients or prospects. Maybe for some reason, the avatars or the clients or the prospects that you're trying to work with don't like video or something that's working for most. So again, the question is, to know when something works for some, when something works for most, and where you are in those specific situations to guarantee a better outcome. Love to hear your thoughts. Thank you.
