Peter Winick explains why thought leaders need to define their platform deliberately. Your platform is the specific promise your content makes: what your audience will see, do, believe, or behave differently after engaging with it. Tie it to your qualifications and position it as a distinct solution in a crowded market.

Hi, this is Peter Winick from Thought Leadership Leverage, and today I wanted to bring something to your attention, give you something to think about. And that something to think about is the definition of your platform. So a lot of people wind up in the author thought leadership content space somewhat serendipitously. It wasn't necessarily planned. They've got some interesting ideas or some research that they've done or speaking that they've done. And the next thing you know, it's a year or two later and you've published a book and now you're an expert in something. And that's pretty cool and that's fun and that's exciting. And I would say if that happens to you, great, go for it. But what you do need to do is be clear and be concise and be specific about what your platform is. And by that I mean, what is the promise that your content makes to users? So as a result of them being exposed to your content in whatever form it may exist, be that a book or be that a speech or e-learning or training or consulting or whatever the case may be, what is it they're gonna be able to see, do, act, believe, or behave differently as a result of that? And that's really what your platform is. You wanna be known as the blank guy or gal or man or woman, pick your pronoun. And that it should be uniquely tailored to you. Why are you specifically qualified to solve that problem or to give them the solution to this situation versus someone else? There are a lot of folks out there in the crowd. There are a lot of experts. There's a lot of noise. There's a lot of content. There's a lot of data. But why you and why now? And that's part of what you need to do when you're crafting a platform strategy. So take a look. Take a couple of moments or a couple of hours, whatever you need. And think through what your platform is and how it's different and how it's powerful and who it resonates with the most. Thanks so much.
