Art Williams defines discipline as doing what you're supposed to do when you're supposed to do it, no matter what. He tells the story of a football player, Johnny Campbell, who showed up to practice with a bee sting swelling his eye shut, but the coach made him suit up anyway. The lesson: if you can perform half-blind, you'll dominate when you're whole.

Discipline, the definition is doing what you're supposed to do when you're supposed to do it. I had one rule on my football team, and that was you were going to come to practice every day unless your butt was in the hospital hooked up to life support. Your butt was going to be at practice. And one day, we were fixing to start practice, and I had my starting right guard, Johnny Campbell, walking out to practice in his blue jeans and his t-shirt. And I said, "Campbell, have you quit? Have you quit?" He said, "No, Coach, a bee stung me in my eye. My right eye's closed, and my head's swollen up, and I can't get the helmet on my, my head!" And I said, "Campbell, if you want to play on this football team, you get your butt back in the locker room, you fit that uniform on, you find a way to squeeze that helmet over your head, and you get your butt out here to practice! And just think, Campbell, if you can practice with one eye, just think how great you're going to play Friday night with both eyes!"
