One Day in Cozumel Mexico: Lucha Libre, Tacos and Margaritas | Cruise Port Tour

In this travel vlog, Josh and Rachael (Rachael Fillbrandt) document a full day exploring Cozumel’s cruise‑port area while aboard the Star of the Seas. They begin with a quick stop at Tequila A Go Go for guacamole, chips, and soda, noting the abundance of shopping and a nearby water entry point. They then book a Royal Caribbean‑offered Lucha Libre excursion, detailing the $166 total price (about $80 after a 35% discount), the free welcome margarita, the three‑way match and tag‑team main event, and the lively crowd atmosphere. While at the arena they enjoy tacos (chicken, pork, beef) and a second margarita, and they discuss optional meet‑and‑greet photos. After the show they wander back toward the port, discovering a $45 all‑inclusive beach club, various souvenir shops, and local eateries such as Ernesto’s (where they try a banana margarita) and Los Moros (coconut shrimp). Throughout the video they share personal reflections on the need for better planning—highlighting the long 2‑plus‑mile walk to downtown, the limited attractions beyond the port, and the idea of splitting a long port day into multiple excursions. They also promote their sponsor Groon’s, a comprehensive daily snack‑pack supplement that they credit with personal weight loss and health benefits, offering a discount link. The vlog concludes with a recap of favorite moments (the Lucha Libre matches and the quesadilla/guacamole) and a teaser for their next cruise‑port stop in Roatán, Honduras.

Hey everybody, I'm Josh.
And I'm Rachael.
Come along with us as we do a very unique and exciting thing in Cozumel.
And we also learn a valuable lesson the hard way. Let's go!
Here we go. All right, good morning and welcome to Cozumel.
Yes, and we are not on Celebrity Excel. We're on the one behind it. Yeah, we will be in the future, but But not today.
Yeah, we're on Star of the Seas right now. But this is— it feels like our first time in Cozumel because we came here about 4 years ago. We went straight to Chichen Itza and straight back, and we had about zero time in the port to do anything else.
Yeah, and we may have been ported at a different dock because none of this looks familiar to us.
None of it does. So we're kind of, uh, we got to the port a little bit early and we did come over to a place called Tequila A Go Go. Had a couple Cokes, some tableside guacamole, and some salsa and chips just to get the day started. It was delicious.
Yeah, it really was. That guacamole was so fresh.
Yeah, and the port area has lots of shopping.
I was gonna say a lot of shopping.
A lot of shopping. I don't know that I've seen much else other than shopping.
There is an area right off of this Tequila A Go Go that you can actually get into the water. Yeah, there's no beach per se, but you can get right into the ocean behind us.
Water entry.
Yep.
Um, and then as far as other restaurants, we have seen a Margaritaville, we seen a senior frogs. So if you're interested in that kind of stuff, but we might have more time to come back here after our excursion because we're planning on doing something else.
Yes, we're gonna do something a little unique for us. We're going to go see lucha libre.
And then something that's not unique for us, which is drink margaritas and eat tacos.
I mean, you're in Mexico, why wouldn't you?
So we're gonna go get into the excursion. It is through Royal Caribbean, and I'll put the price up right now because I don't remember what it was.
I don't either.
Okay, I just looked it up and we got it for $166 total, which does include 35% off. So you're probably seeing a price on right now which is way more than we spent. So about $80 though. If you've never been to the Cozumel port, this one does seem like it has all of the excursion meeting points just, oh, just off the port area from your ship. You can see it right there. In front of Margaritaville.
For your margarita, after you grab your margarita, anywhere inside the arena.
Okay.
Cheers. Well, that's actually really good.
It's a free margarita.
Yes, Josh! Yes!
Hey everybody, future Josh.
I'm Rachael.
If you've been watching us for the last year or more years, you realize that last year was one of the toughest years for us, both mentally and physically. In fact, we came back from our New Year's trip and I was weighing the heaviest I have been ever. And so we decided to take our health back with a balanced diet, exercise, and the sponsor of today's video, Groon's. Groon's are a convenient, comprehensive formula packed into a snack pack a day. This isn't a multivitamin, a greens gummy, or a prebiotic. It's all those things and then some at a fraction of the price. And it tastes great. While generic multivitamins only contain around 7 to 9 vitamins, Groon's has 20+ vitamins and minerals and 60 ingredients, which includes nutrient-dense whole foods. And you get to eat a full snack pack each time because they can't fit that many minerals and vitamins into just one gummy. So we've been using this as almost like a treat because sometimes I'll use this rather than some other kind of food, and it's actually helped me lose 20 pounds. These results may not be typical, but for me, I've loved it. Some of the key reasons why we chose Groon's includes its effects on gut health, energy, immunity, recovery, and cognition. So if you're like us and you want to take your health back, check into Groon's. And if you click the link below, you can get 52% off your order or scan the QR code. All right, so everything went a little bit fast there.
It did.
Uh, so the bus ride is a van and it takes about 2 minutes maximum.
Oh, I said a minute.
Yeah, it's very close.
It was very fast.
They said you could walk, but it is a sidewalk.
No, there is no sidewalk.
There is no sidewalk, so you don't want to walk back that way. But, um, that was a lot of fun. It was probably about 200 people in there, which I think that helps a ton.
Yeah, it was very, um, immersive and energetic and very fun.
People really got into it. Uh, you— when you arrive, you get a margarita right away. You can buy Souvenirs, sodas, popcorn, anything you need, beer, margaritas. And then there was a 3-way wrestling match. So 3 singles. And then there was a tag team for the main event.
Yeah.
They get really into the crowd.
They do.
And the crowd gets really into it.
Which makes it really fun.
Yeah. I would definitely do it again.
I would too. And I would say of all ages. I would say as young as probably 3 years old, all the way up to 70, 80-year-olds.
Right.
It was a lot of different age groups.
And now there does seem like there's a meet and greet option, and you can also take pictures with the wrestlers at the end. Yeah. We chose not to. Instead, we got in the taco line, which the tacos, it is one chicken, one pork, one beef. And then I'm sure you probably could have gotten more if you wanted to.
Mm-hmm. They weren't really taking numbers or no, any, a ticket or anything.
But they were pretty dang good. And then you get another margarita. So we've had a couple margaritas and the tacos. I think it was a good experience.
I do too.
Now, right now today, I did look and it was $130 if you bought it on the, on the ship today.
I probably wouldn't do that.
Yeah, but yeah, for like $80, I thought it was a good time. And we'll get more time to spend. We're hoping to get into, uh, the Cozumel City area.
Yeah, and I would say, I mean, it's, it's quirky and it's unique and it's fun, but I would definitely recommend. It was a lot of fun.
All right, let's get back to the port. On top of the souvenir shop with all the masks in the arena, you can get some tequila, chocolate, vanilla, and other different souvenirs here.
It does appear that this excursion is available on multiple cruise lines because so far, so far for our ride back, they have called Carnival, MSC. We know we were on the bus with Royal Caribbean, cuz that's what we're on, and Celebrity. That's a lot. So this is available, yeah, to all cruise ships.
If you've done this on a different cruise line, let us know what the cost was to you.
All right, sing along.
Where is Andrea?
Andrea, all Happy birthday! Yay!
We made our way back to the port. Took us forever to get out of it. It's kind of a maze.
I'm pretty sure it's intentional.
But, uh, we did find this other Cozumel sign if you just come out and turn left. We did find that there are 3 different ports, so that might explain why we had no idea what we were looking at. Oh, we found the beach.
I think that has something to do with the thing next door. I bet there's like a resort or something.
Yeah, it looks a little too nice to not be a resort.
Yeah.
All right, so we got talked into going to a place called Ernesto's by a guy in a tourist booth. Tourist booth. Yeah, they had free maps. They said, you want good food and drink? Here. Let me take you to Ernesto's.
He did say if we like it, we should bring him a Coke.
Yeah, Jorge, he wants a Coke. But, uh, beautiful view, and this is all we really wanted. Grab some good Mexican food. We're gonna get some margaritas. This should be good. All right, I don't see a banana margarita very often.
No.
So I had to get one. Check out the size of that.
And look at that view. Like, what a perfect afternoon.
That's fantastic.
Is it good?
Yeah, they should make banana margaritas more often.
I just love the view. Like, you just want to relax, watch the beach. Yeah, we're right next to Roberta's Scuba Shack, it looks like.
Right. We weren't really sure what we were going to do after— yeah, the Lucha Libre, and we didn't know how long it would take. It actually was done, I think, in like 3 hours.
3 hours flat.
Yes.
And we could get back on the ship, but honestly, we missed a port day because of weather. And so we've been on the ship for 2 days, and I'm just kind of— I wanted to stick with the land.
Yep.
For a little bit.
So we'll probably get to more places after this still, but if we don't, we have food coming.
Yeah.
Nothing like some free chips and salsa, and those look freshly made.
They do look fresh. You want me to try one?
Yeah.
Oh wow! Those are good!
Heck yes! And he said it is a spicy salsa.
And a pico over here, it looks like.
Yes! I'm not spicy.
This is gonna hit!
And Jorge did tell us that the quesadillas are good, so we ended up with a beef and cheese quesadilla. Got some guac there, pico, jalapeños.
And some shrimp ceviche. Which of course, sea lime squeeze lime. We're gonna add that to that.
I'm gonna just grab one.
Yeah.
Delicious.
Is it delicious? I'm glad we have those chips. Throw it on that.
Yeah, those chips are fantastic. That salsa is hot.
It was hot.
And they should make more banana daiquiris or more banana margaritas. All right, lunch was well. You calling that lunch?
Sure, sure.
But it was fantastic. We came out, turned left, and we found there's a beach club, just $45, all-inclusive, open bar, snacks, lounge chairs, man-made beach area. So if you get out of the port, it seems like you're fine.
Yeah, we are coming back to Cozumel in November, so this is something that we should probably look at because we don't know about beach days or Actually what to do.
Well, and I did see in the port area there was tons of little vendors.
Oh yeah.
Where you could do like dolphin encounters or a bunch of different tours, ATVs, and whatnot.
We've seen snorkel and scuba and everything.
Yeah, so if you don't book an excursion, I bet you can look—
oh yep.
Okay, we're guessing that this is the beach for this one. But, um, if you don't book an excursion, I think you'll be fine.
Yeah, I think you could do on your own here.
Okay, well, heck, that Lucha Libre was fast enough. You could do that and do these.
True.
But we're gonna try to get to the downtown Cozumel area. What is this?
Super cute little carriage.
A carriage Car?
Carriage car!
There is no horse! During our walk to downtown, it looks like we came across— that's like a stingray sanctuary maybe? Or just touching, petting zoo? Stingray Beach Cozumel! So this has basically become a walk to nowhere.
This is what happens when we have no plans.
Yeah, well, I mean, we had plans. It's just it was only 3 hours, and then we were like, well, we already ate and drank at a cruise port restaurant, and then we ate and drank at a place that was close to the cruise port. Yeah, but yeah, there's It's a bunch of hotels and like there was a dolphin encounter, there's a stingray encounter. I don't know, if we can find a place to probably grab another drink, we'll do it. But we are now getting into like the, I guess, city center. Yeah, city center of Cozumel.
I will say it's been a relatively easy walk and it feels safe.
That's true. All right, we need to cool off our feet a little bit. Just gonna wander down to the water. It's gorgeous. And I do think that this is probably the pier that we were at before where we just got onto another ship and went over to the mainland.
Because we haven't had enough food.
Yeah, well, we needed the drink. Yeah, and this is a mezcal cucumber drink.
Yeah, and yours is picante and pineapple. It's hot, super spicy.
Mine is delicious. And then why not, we grabbed Um, coconut shrimp. It's a seafood restaurant called Los Moros, and we were done with the outside. It's very hot out there, but this is a seafood restaurant, uh, near where we put our feet in, and we'll probably walk back after this. All right, we are back at the cruise port. That was not the most enjoyable walk. We'll talk about when we get to the room though. All right, we're back in the room. I feel like today is a tale of two stories. The first story was fun and exciting.
Yeah, the second one, not so much.
Not so much. Yeah, so I feel like we definitely learned our lesson. Um, unfortunately we had to learn it the hard way. Which was you should have plans for pretty much everything you're going to do in Cozumel. We ended up walking by and we talked about this little beach club which was an all-inclusive for like $45. I wish we would have just walked straight there after the lucha libre and it would have been fantastic.
Yeah, we should have just stopped there once we saw that sign.
Yeah, so we did learn the— with flip-flops, that is about a 2.25-mile walk to the downtown area which did not have that much different of stuff than what was in this area.
Yeah, because right across the street from the port here is a Hard Rock Cafe and 2 and a quarter miles down is another Hard Rock Cafe.
Yeah.
Like, and there was a Señor Frogs and there's a Señor Frogs here.
Yeah.
And so I just think there is not a whole lot.
I think we— I think sometimes we like—
At least on basic, basic information we knew.
Yeah, I think that sometimes we over think what we do, and we're like, oh, I don't want to just stay in the port area because like all they have is Margaritaville and Señor Frog's and then the tequila place that we went to. But then like a lot of the places we end up going to, it's just— it's big hotel with restaurants, it's a restaurant that's overlooking the beach. There was not as much to do as I thought there would be.
Yeah, I think we should have done a 2-excursion day.
Yes.
And maybe in the future, because it does seem that the Port day here in Cozumel is very long. Um, at least a good 8 hours. So I would like to imagine if we come back again, we maybe do either an extremely long excursion or break it up into 2 small excursions. It might be something worth looking at.
Because our, our Lucha Libre excursion was basically done in 3 hours. Yeah, but it was really fun. Right, but we could have just come back to the port and there's all those vendors there. We could have just said, hey, you got a boat? Can I go see some dolphins?
Yeah.
And I bet we could have found somebody that would have. So I probably would have done that, or I would have just gone to the all-inclusive because I think that that would have been nice too. But it was beautiful weather.
It was good weather.
It was just very hot, and we were like, it's just right there on the map. We should have learned our lesson from most travel.
Yeah.
But when we looked at the map, it looked like it wasn't that far away, and we're like, oh, let's do it. Let's just try to see.
Yeah.
And there just wasn't the big payoff that we were expecting. So our feet are tore up because of it. But let's talk about our favorite bite and favorite moment of the day. What you got?
Favorite moment?
Or bite.
My— I'll go with favorite moment first. My favorite moment was easily watching the lucha libre matches. I don't know why. It's cheesy, it's staged, it's fun. I think that's the big part of it. Like, yeah, the crowd was into it. It was a blast. It will be something I don't forget very anytime soon.
Yeah, it took me back to, uh, like, uh, at Excalibur in Las Vegas where they have the Knights Tournament of Kings kind of thing. I thought it was one of those where, like, if you just embrace it and have fun with it, it's awesome.
Yeah.
And if I had to pinpoint one moment, it was when Mr. Taco came out. Oh God, that guy was Dude was funny and he stole the show. So that was great. And then how about your favorite bite of today?
I, I'm torn between the quesadilla after the first stop after we were there and the guacamole from the very beginning. So those would be 2. I have to have 2 because they're pretty tied.
All right, I went with the quesadilla because it was just a ton of cheese and some ground beef and it was delicious. The setting was beautiful. The Banana da— oh, I keep saying banana daiquiri. The banana margarita was fantastic with it. So Ernestos, you should check it out. And that is very close to the port.
Yeah, it was so close.
You do not need to walk 2 miles to get to it. So I would probably maybe make it over there. Yeah. And then do some more stuff around here.
Agreed.
Hopefully you learned your lesson from our lesson.
Lesson.
