AI in software development needs human observation to work well. A hidden overlay kept breaking hot-module reloading until manual inspection with DevTools revealed it. The best results come from humans spotting what AI misses and feeding that insight back into the loop.

Would working with AI be the looker? I find that a lot of computer programming is basically data analysis. And so we're asking the machine to figure out a better way of doing things. I have less code and less context to figure out how to do things better. But in order to do that, it needs to decide how it's working. And I find that AI often doesn't do a great job of seeing things that can even be relatively obvious. There are just like problems in the output. Like I watched it repeatedly, it did the same mistake. Over and over and over. Like it wasn't improving the look on the, you know, the hot module reloading environment. And what I had to do was open up DevTools, look inside and say, hey, it sure seems like you got this thing that's invisible that's sitting on top. And because I was looking at it a different way, the AI was able to take advantage of that. Using your creativity to look at the data, look at the results, and feed that information back allows you both to work in concert and produce better results faster.
