Hi everybody, happy Winey Plousa Wednesday.
I like it when you work and I come home and you're all dressed nice.
He says to me all the time, Did you have a podcast?
Well, I say that on the podcast days. I think that you're in work clothes and you're not in a hoodie.
I think that I need to surprise him and dress for work.
Oh my God, and fake me out when you don't have a— that'd be awesome.
He'll be like, did you have a podcast? I'll be like, no honey, I'm just dressed nice.
Well, all right, I could like that.
Well then I need to buy more work clothes.
I would happily buy you more work clothes. And I love that dressing nice is work clothes.
Well, I could just dress nice on an average day. Why are we off on this tangent?
Because you told me I look handsome and I told you you look beautiful.
So we are back on my old account, the original Rebecca Greene, the original. I like— I just want to cry. I said to Seth one day, I had this overwhelming feeling that he needed to try again.
And well, I never gave up. I just—
well, what I mean by that is I needed him to call again, which is actually live chatting. It's not—
yes, you can't actually call anybody.
And the only reason why I have him do it is because he is connected to the work situation.
The only way you can live chat them is through an ad account. We had an ad account for Rebecca Greene. The ad account was also hacked when this originally thing happened. So the only way you can get to a live chat and get to a person is through an ad account, which is on my computer at work, and Rebecca's not an admin, like she admin on it.
So I had this overwhelming feeling of sadness one day that like I couldn't believe all of the memories were gone, which we're going to print.
Okay, the 17 years of pictures.
17 years. It's like You know, there was a woman like in tears on TikTok about her Instagram account that she had like a million followers or something close to that, and she was like, they just shut me down. So it can happen. So have backups. My advice to you is have backups. And so I said to Seth, I need you to like actually talk to someone again. Like, I just felt like I've been emailing them every single week, but— and getting nowhere, right?
I hadn't live chatted in a little— in a while because I would live chat for hours and hours and hours over and over again, and it didn't get anywhere.
So 5 months later, yes, hours and hours of Seth's live chats, yes, he got my account back, yes, and he let me go to Taylor, yes. So to say that I fell in love even more than I already was would be an understatement. So let's talk about Taylor. So I have my account back, all thanks to my husband. So I feel very blessed that he worked so hard at that. He knows how much it meant to me, and I really appreciate it, Seth.
You are very welcome.
I've cried a lot. I've cried sad tears, happy tears, all the tears. So, so I was trying— so Taylor Swift Rebecca Greene is in concert, as you know, and she has 6 concerts in Toronto which is about 2 hours from our house without traffic. And she's not coming to Buffalo! We would have loved for her to come to Buffalo—
so we did some research on the car on the way home from dance—
no, no, that we're not talking about that— we're not there— sorry don't you rush this along Mr. Green—
I was talking about something you don't know— oh, oh then I figured out why she didn't come to Buffalo—
Oh, I thought you were going somewhere else okay?
I was not. So Highmark Stadium seats more than Rogers Centre. It's significantly bigger. So we were like, why wouldn't she come here? Well, the Greater Buffalo-Niagara metropolitan area population is 1.5 million. Toronto is over 7— like 6.5 to 7 million. So Toronto is a much, much bigger city. So even though their stadium is slightly smaller than ours, she probably figured she had a better chance of selling out than if she came to Buffalo, would be our guess.
Ah, Taylor.
But our stadium seats like 40% more people.
So I am going to say that I do tend to get frustrated because because big artists don't always come here. And we went— I took Ella to— we took Ella to Olivia Rodrigo in Toronto. Seth tried to take me to JLo, but she canceled her concert in Toronto. We had a hotel. We were gonna have the best date night, JLo. We probably should have still gone, but whatever.
Without JLo, just gone to Toronto. Well, let's say the hotel prices for that hotel because of JLo were ginormous to pay that when she's not there, when we could have just gone on a regular— to regular night.
Okay, JLo, can you come back for me? And how about some Britney action? I want to see Britney.
She is not on tour.
Okay, so back to Taylor. So Taylor was doing— is doing 6 shows in Toronto, which is 2 hours from our house. And my daughter Ella, who is 15 going on 16, is a huge Swiftie. Obsessed, obsessed with Taylor Swift. Has totally gotten me into the music. Ella and I listen to the music all the time, and she has all the cardigans, all the music, all the records, every— like, she's just so into Taylor Swift. So I was like, how am I going to let her come and not take Ella? And I looked at prices on— it was totally sold out on, you know, Ticketmaster or whatever.
So I kept looking at StubHub resale tickets over and over and over again for months and months, magically hoping that they would somehow get from astronomical down to absurdly expensive.
No, I want to tell them I had tickets in my cart many, many times that Seth told me to take the plunge and buy.
I said buy the overpriced.
I think that part of it was I couldn't get myself to spend the money, and part of it was my kids' schedules really can be overwhelming. And I was like, when the heck do I think I'm taking her, right?
The 6 nights that she— Taylor was in town, we didn't have a— we thought we didn't have a free night any of those nights, which I would have ditched a thing, ditched a thing.
And I was like, okay, let's go Friday. Like, I was trying to plan in my head when we could fit this in. And then, so we had Lily's cheer competition on Saturday in Syracuse.
Yes, another few hours.
And we— you get the schedule really close to the competition. So I didn't realize, none of us knew that this wasn't an all-day thing like it normally is. We were back in the car driving home to Buffalo at 11 AM. So I was like, like, I had this like epiphany and I was like, I have plenty of time to go to Taylor tonight. And Seth and Ella, did you think I was crazy?
Yes, I thought you were crazy.
Did you think I was kidding?
Um, originally for, for a few minutes I thought you were kidding because like we gotta get home and you basically gotta turn, we literally, as soon as we get home, you gotta turn around and go. I was like, you're not, she's not really serious. And then it turned out you were.
Well, and Seth was, was brilliant and was like, I'm gonna just grab you a limo so that you don't have to drive and you don't have to drive home. And then I'll stay home with Max and Lily and you just, you and Ella hop in the limo and go.
Yes.
But the limo couldn't pick us up 4 o'clock. And the concert— I mean, the Gracie Abrams started at 5:45, Taylor was starting at 8. So we really may have had time, but who knows what the traffic would have been like by then, right? So I was like, I am not waiting till 4 o'clock. So 2 o'clock, around 2 o'clock, we both decided to take the plunge after Ella said, no, not a good day, I have homework to do, I'd rather go next weekend, I want to go next weekend. I don't want to go today, like I want to rest, I want to do homework, I have— I want to like wrap my mind around it. And I was like, I'm gonna buy these tickets. So I ignored Ella, I bought the tickets, we ditched the limo because I didn't want to wait for the limo, and Seth is like, I'll be your limo, because I was really nervous about getting there on time. So I knew that if the fantastic man behind me was in the car, that Ellen and I could jump out and not have to deal with parking, traffic, and parking. And I was nervous about what time it was. So when I am nervous— first of all, Seth was tired from driving home from Syracuse— when I am nervous, it is best that I drive.
Yes, because she can't take how slow I drive when, when she's nervous.
So I did drive and there was traffic, but I want to tell you all, we left at 3 o'clock from our house and we pulled up to a red light right near Rogers Center at 5:30, and crazy me saw Rogers Center, jumped out of the car at a red light with Ella, and Seth took over and found the parking garage.
Yes, I parked, you went to the concert.
So we run to the thing, and I want to tell you why we were running. First, excitement. Second, when we went to the Olivia Rodrigo concert, the line was insane. Like, it was like pure mayhem. You were there.
Yes, they had no organization whatsoever, no one telling you where to go, no security, no ropes or anything. And it was just a mob of people trying to figure out how they were going to get in. It was totally unorganized.
So that's what I was—
forever to get in, right?
So I should have known better, but I didn't, and that's what I was expecting. So I was nervous, like, how long are we going to be in line?
Hours, right?
So we find our gate and there is like nobody there.
It was very well— everyone went to separate gates. It was all organized.
Everybody already inside. I'm like, where is everyone? So lesson: I need to not freak out ever.
Yeah, that'd be really— I never know, worth the overpriced ticket, right? You didn't realize you should never freak out.
I should never freak out. I was like, there's going to be a long line, we're never going to get there in time, there's going to be traffic. What am I thinking? I needed to go early. Oh, I need to chill the hell out. That's the lesson. So we get in and of course Ella wants merchandise, and the line is 3 stories high. So we're not waiting in the 3 stories high line that was like 2 hours long.
And they started putting those unavailable signs up, so selling out, so didn't bring enough.
So Ella was like, we're going to wait in this line that we don't have time for, and then there's going to be nothing left for us to buy. So If you are going, I recommend going super early if you want merchandise. Like, super early. Just buy some merchandise, walk around the city, like, do your thing and enjoy the electricity of the city because, oh my God, was it magical being there. So my other advice is get yourself the lavender haze drink that I was trying to save for Seth to try because it was so good. And I didn't tell you this, but on my way out, they wouldn't let me take it.
You didn't tell me.
They wouldn't let me take it. I was really annoyed.
Well, maybe we could Google it and find the recipe.
Oh, that's an excellent idea. That is an excellent idea. So we found our seats. We sat on the floor. We sat on the floor seats, not on the floor. We sat in—
there were chairs that they didn't sit in anywhere.
We sat in floor seats because they were the same price as all the other seats. So why not try it? We've never sat on the floor before. I am going to tell you, it is not a stadium seat. It is a folding chair. It is not angled. You have to look around people, like you're literally all standing at the same level. And what was the other thing I wanted to tell you? You can't escape. Like I said to the guy, 'Where's the bathroom?' And he's like, 'Oh, you have to go up the stairs and around.' Like, you literally have to go back up to get— there's no downstairs bathroom. So when we were leaving, it was like a huge pile of humanity, people trying to leave and waiting for the upper people to leave. Before the floor people can leave. So I'm like, I don't know if I want to do that again because, you know, I'm just thinking about safety. Yes. Am I crazy that I think about that stuff?
You are not crazy. You are a mother. I mean, you are crazy, but not for that.
I, I am crazy. But buying tickets last minute and being spontaneous was freaking fun.
You are the queen of the fun bus.
Did you think that was fun at all, or was that just pure chaos?
It was fun for you and Ella. Yeah.
And the fantastic man sitting next to me had 6 hours to eat and drink and find things to do.
Okay, I didn't eat and drink for 6 hours. That was 1 hour, and then I sat in the car.
You didn't sit in the car.
I sat in other— okay, I sat in a car, I sat in one hotel lobby, I sat in another hotel lobby when they started looking at me funny, uh, because why is a guy sitting in a hotel lobby with a book and a couple books for hours? So I moved for a couple places. I was like, I'm homeless. Like, there's— where am I going? Where can I go? I sat in the basement of the place where all the shops— the— there was a concourse under the parking garage that had shops. That's like an underground shopping center near the hockey arena. All the stores were closed, but there were still some lights on over some chairs, so I sat there because there was nobody down there.
Oh honey, I was texting him like, isn't there a Barnes Noble?
There is not. You know where I did look up Barnes Noble near me? You know what the answer was? Transit Road in Williamsville, 2.5 hours away.
How come you couldn't just sit and drink?
I had to drive home.
Well, I drew— I was gonna drive home.
Okay, you didn't want to drive out of Toronto, and to get out of Toronto in the Taylor Madness, that was like an hour and a half of the— like, you— we didn't get to switch till we got to the border.
I understand that, but I would have done that for you. For you to be able to drink and hang out.
Okay, I was not going to get plastered. I thought I was driving home, so no, I had one drink at 6 o'clock and then I stopped myself. Okay, well, I didn't mind the 6 hours sitting around reading a book.
Oh my God, I'm so sorry.
I'm used to traveling by myself, like cross-country, where I've got hours and hours in planes and airports.
So I wanted to bring—
in my ideal situation, I would have brought Seth and and Lily to the actual concert, but it wouldn't have been a good day because Lily had cheer all morning and she was exhausted.
So Lily wanted to— well, in quotes, I'm gonna explain, Seth. Okay, in quotes, Lily wanted to go. And I've gotten a lot of questions about Lily, like, how can you just take Ella? Uh, first of all, the tickets were a fortune. That's number one. Number two, Lily gets annoyed when Ella and I play Taylor music. She literally tells us to turn it off in the car. She is not a Taylor fan. She will tell you she likes some of the music. I really don't think she does.
I like her.
She might like a few songs. She's not a big Taylor Swift fan. And if tickets were reasonable, I would have brought her.
Yeah, if it had been a couple hundred bucks, I would have gone, but not for that.
I mean, if it was, if it was a couple hundred bucks, I would have brought her just for the experience, not for Taylor. She doesn't really love the music. And she was exhausted and cranky. Like, how was she going to stay up until 11:20?
Well, we didn't get— yeah, she could have passed out in the car, but we didn't get in the car at 11:20. I think we got in the car more like midnight because we had to get to it, right?
But I'm just saying that, I mean, at 11 o'clock I was so tired and I was looking around and the little kids were dancing on chairs and I was like, okay, the little kids are up dancing, Taylor's performing, like, you can do this.
So, and there were also kids who were passed out. I didn't see any. Most expensive nap ever.
I didn't see any passed out. I literally looked to my right.
I saw people coming through the hotel like carrying their kids passed out on them.
And did you see all the outfits?
Yes, I was people watching before when the concert ended and I was sitting in that hotel lobby waiting for you to meet me there. And obviously there were 20,000, 30,000 people had to come out before you. Like, I was watching all the people go by going, man, people go all out for this, for Taylor Swift. Like, that they get seriously dressed up.
I just kept looking around, very creative, all the outfits. One lady came up, they were walking around with like, they were holding tons of friendship bracelets to trade. Like, the trading of bracelets was just like so cool. And one woman who I will never forget came up in this outfit that was like all sparkles, and she's like, I made it. And I was like, oh my God, she made her amazing Taylor Swift outfit.
That's some dedication.
I was just— and, and all I would have made if I knew we were going, I would have made a ton of time to prepare.
I would have outfit—
I would have bought a new outfit, of course. I didn't have time to even think about my outfit. I was like, throw on some clothes. I would have bought a new outfit. I would have made a million bracelets. I would have traded with a million people. Ella traded with some people. She had some bracelets. But so, my lessons from this evening. So first of all, I wanted to put this out to you. It's like the perfect night. It's Wednesday night and there are a bunch of people that I know going Thursday, Friday, Saturday to Taylor's last shows in Toronto. So her last shows in Toronto are the next 3 nights. People are going, and if you have any questions, ask us.
Ask her, don't ask me.
Well, you helped a lot.
Okay, I hit buy on the tickets and I picked the parking pass.
I picked the tickets and put them in the cart and then ran upstairs to get dressed.
Yes, and said, here, buy this.
And notice that it's much easier for me to tell you to hit buy than it is Isn't that interesting?
There's probably some, uh, psychological stuff you could figure out there.
Oh my gosh, yeah. Much easier for me to have Seth spend the money than for me to spend the money.
You know, it's our money. It got spent regardless of who pushed the button.
It's our money. It, it all went to Taylor.
It's Taylor's money. Didn't go to her. She got the face value of the ticket. It went to the person who sold it to us at an extremely absurdly high markup.
I'm really sad for her. That she doesn't get that money. I'm really sad for her that people are reselling her tickets and taking advantage of the situation.
I mean, supply and demand, right? So like, she's able to get it at the original price, or they bought it from somebody else cheaper than us, and she can't do anything about that. You can't tell people they can't resell their tickets, right?
Well, it was magical Watching Ella sing and dance was magical. I mean, you can't, you can't put a price on that.
Oh, I can. I can put a very big price on that. I know exactly how much that memory costs.
I tried to get the original tickets.
I know, we entered all the lotteries, we used all the different credit cards that had offers to get access to Taylor. We tried like 6 of them. We tried calling into every radio station, no luck.
We, I really wanted to just buy them that, that whatever that first day was when they went on sale, people were— it was like a madhouse. We tried to get in the presale, and whoever got the presale code, all of those people didn't even get the tickets, right? It was like crazy. I think she has a few fans, a little bit. So the lessons, okay, I think that we need to celebrate what our kids love, and I think that we need to show them that we care about what, what they love. And with the amount of effort that Ella puts into her love of Taylor Swift, how could I possibly not get into it with her?
Oh, okay, yes, you can get into it to her. I was gonna say you can express your love with a $30 record from Target.
Oh, Oh well, I— yes, I was good with the records and the Disney+ concert and the—
no, you were the one who pushed this. It wasn't like she came every day begging, Daddy, Daddy, please get me Taylor Swift tickets.
She did for a while and then she let it go. She did for a long time.
Okay, maybe she said to me— okay, because I didn't get any. To me, it didn't get mentioned to me other than you.
Who's gonna say You!
So I never even heard about that, so that's interesting.
She didn't say anything to you about wanting tickets? Not once?
I don't think so.
I don't believe you.
Okay, maybe once when we thought they were reasonably priced when they were first— before they were gonna go on sale. Okay, but we were willing to try to get them.
We're not talking about buying tickets for the concert. We're talking about loving and showing interest in what our kids love.
Yes, and you do a great job of that.
So when our kids are really into something, I try my best to show interest and be involved. Yes, you do too.
I, I'm agreeing with you.
Okay, I'm, I'm saying you're good at it too.
Thank you.
Okay, be present in the moment. I will tell you that experts would have told me to put my phone down and enjoy the concert, but I am very glad I didn't listen. I have watched the videos a ton of times. I took a ton of videos. Well, she asked me to. Ella really wanted to soak it all in and be present. She didn't take one photo, she didn't take one video, and she was just there present dancing and singing. I also danced and sang, but I took a million videos and a million pictures, so I was the photographer.
Yes.
But I was also present and enjoying it with her. The power of community. Holy crap, is Taylor's community is freaking amazing.
Yes.
I mean, you— it felt like— I don't want to say it felt like a family, but it felt like a Taylor family. And like, all the sparkles, I just could— I just couldn't believe all the sparkles. I mean, how did she get us all the sparkle?
As an excellent psychological and marketing study in all things Taylor.
Um, I think that you could do an amazing marketing analysis of Taylor.
I will work on that.
But I literally looked around at all the people and just kept taking it in, and everyone around me was talking, everyone was asking each other questions. It just felt like such a special community. And then you add trading bracelets, and that makes it even more special. So invest in memories, not things. I am finding that the memories are so much more special than the stuff that we buy them.
Yes, yes, absolutely. Lots of times stuff goes away—
concerts, trips, yes, that kind of stuff. Yes, I kind of like being spontaneous, honey.
As long as the next time you are spontaneous it costs a lot less money, I'm on board.
So if I was spontaneous and said, let's go to Olive Garden, that's a lot less money.
Except on a Saturday night, you're gonna wait for an hour.
You can't really be spontaneous on a Saturday night because there's a long wait everywhere, right? But I do get—
you can spontaneously go wait.
I, I appreciate that you and Ella let me be spontaneous. What possessed you to let me be spontaneous?
What possessed me? You've been talking about it for a freaking year.
He's like, he's— is it just that you want to shut me up?
No, I want to make you happy. Oh, I knew that there were only so many more, right? Only so many more nights, right? This is the closest we were gonna get for the rest of the tour. It's almost over. She ends in Vancouver. So this was kind of it. This was your shot. You were either going to this or you weren't going. You regret the things in life you don't do. You would treasure that memory with her forever. You two will always remember that. And I had kind of wrapped my mind around the fact maybe 6 or 9 months ago that we were probably going to spend that obscene amount of money on tickets and gotten over it and started telling you— instead of saying no, started saying, okay, just buy them. And then you wouldn't buy them. So again, I knew that you had thought about it 2 or 3 times and I've said go for it and you still didn't do it. So when I was like, oh, they're cheaper than the— as a last minute, they were still absurd but cheaper absurd than they were a week before. Like, maybe you'll actually do it and we'll go.
Well, and you touched on an important point. Um, Seth had told me to buy tickets back when they were X price, which was high. Then they went to Y price, which was higher, and Seth said no freaking way. Because he said yes to X, not Y, right? The day of. Okay, so just think about this. If you don't have tickets, you might want to check the day of on StubHub because maybe the ticket prices will go down, right? They went down to W. They went down below what's— they went down to what Seth had originally approved.
Yes.
So they weren't as high when he— he had said no at a certain price and they were lower than that. Yes. So that is part of why I felt semi-comfortable. You're never gonna feel comfortable spending that money. I wish we could all go for $200 a pop. That's what I spent on Justin Timberlake. I spent $200.
That is crazy. Justin Timberlake, $200. Taylor, not so much.
Um, I already told you there was no need to freak out. I was freaking out about the fact that it was 3 o'clock already. What was traffic going to be like? What was the line going to be like? I was doing worst case scenarios in my head. I was like, we'll eventually get in the building even if we're late. How can I be late when I'm spending this amount of money? Like, I was spiraling in my head. And yes, and our mindset is so freaking important, and it puts you in a tizzy. It puts you in pure happiness and it puts you in pure tizzy mode. So I am going to continue to work on my mindset and what I'm telling myself.
Awesome.
In the car, I don't know if you noticed, I did better in the car when we were moving. I kept saying—
you freaked out less in the car. You were still stressed. You started to relax when there was no wait at the border. Oh, when you got to the border and saw— like, I kept telling you, oh, it says 13 minutes is the wait at the border, and you're like, that can't be right, only 13 minutes. And then there was zero wait. We were one car was the wait, and you were like, oh my God, okay. And then you started to visibly relax a little bit.
And I kept saying to Seth, check the border wait.
Yeah, we got there, there was no wait.
There was no wait. And I told the lady where we were going, Border Patrol, and I cried. I'm sure she thought it was cute. So I realized that part of why I get nervous and in a tizzy is because I may not realize all the time that I'm not alone. And if I can realize in my head more that I have this partner sitting next to me who, even if he decided not to come, which would have been okay, he still was gonna help me through the process.
Yes, I would have— I would assumed if I had stayed home I would have gotten a number of phone calls from you along the way, and you would have had Ella text me or FaceTime me, and I would have tried to talk you through it and talk you down.
Well, oh my gosh, I don't even know if you can cross the border with one parent with, with your child. I've never done that. We've— I don't even know.
I mean, you have your passports. I mean, I don't know if you need a note from the other parent saying it's okay for you to cross the border.
I want you to know I want you to know that I'm literally just thinking about this at this moment, and I wouldn't have thought of it that day. So we need to find out before I ever try to take them to somewhere over the border.
I never would have thought of that.
I don't know if you're allowed to go with just one parent.
Okay, well, we'll find out, and I'll give you a note for the next time.
Um, those memories are priceless, and Taylor Swift is in freaking amazing shape. How did she do that for 3.2 hours, Seth?
Lots of practice.
I mean, seriously, what kind of shape is this woman in?
Lots of practice. It's all she does, practice.
Oh my gosh. So anything else that we need to share with people? I will tell you, my neighbor is going on Thursday and told me she is parking in Burlington and hopping on the train, and I have heard that that is an easy way to do it. So maybe we'll try that next time.
Burlington where?
If you take— if you go park over the border.
Oh, okay. I was like, Burlington, Vermont's the wrong direction.
No, no, there's Burlington in Canada over the border.
Got it. And she's taking the train from Burlington. I could— you couldn't you just take the train from Buffalo to Toronto? I don't know, but yes, if we had had time, we could have done some research.
I don't think you can do that because you need to cross the border first.
Okay, so go to Burlington and hop a train.
I'm gonna research how long it takes on train from Burlington to Toronto.
I would say you're already across the border, which is a chunk of time. Okay, whatever, we'll figure it out.
I'm just throwing out—
next concert in Toronto, we'll plan in advance. So that's right, give us some notice.
I am telling you that I see lots of Toronto dates in our future because that's where all the good people go.
Although Justin did come here.
Justin did come here twice. I understand that, but I would like to see someone besides Justin. Thank you, Justin. The New Kids on the Block came and I missed them, and Janet Jackson came and I missed them.
I told you you could get tickets for either one of those.
It's okay, I'm, I'm not upset about it.
Okay, you did see both of them 30 years ago.
I have never seen Janet.
Okay, I saw New Kids.
Okay, so anyways, it was fantastic. It was worth the money.
And you're a baby.
Not in your opinion.
It depends on, on how long those memories—
anyway, I'm gonna go watch my videos. Okay. Hopefully I shared some helpful stuff with you. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. If you are going, have a fantastic time. It is a magical experience, and you can just go to the city If you don't have tickets and you love Taylor, go and enjoy the magic and electricity and look at everybody's outfit. Go get some food and people watch. There were people eating outside watching people. Did you notice that? It was cold.
Yes, when I was looking for what restaurant I was gonna get dinner in, I was like, these people are eating outside on the patios at these places and it's freezing.
Why are they eating outside?
They were crazy. I don't know.
I'm curious about that.
It was— they wanted to people watch and they didn't mind the cold.
Okay, it's bedtime.
