5 Ways to Build a Great Relationship! | Powerful Hacks & How to Create a Shared Vision

A short coaching-style YouTube talk by Rebeccah Silence offering five practical "relationship hacks" to deepen and repair emotional connections. The speaker frames the advice from recent couples intensives and invites listeners to (1) care about others' dreams as much as your own, (2) think about your impact on others, (3) define the "job description" you play in different relationships, (4) make sure close contacts know their job descriptions with you, and (5) be reliable and keep your word. The talk emphasizes emotional intimacy, shared vision, and using relationships as opportunities for personal growth; ends with a CTA to rebeccasilence.com.
And I want to talk today about building great relationships. I'm just coming off of back to back couples intensives. And what a couples intensive is with me anyway is two days of opening up Pandora's box and looking at everything that would make you want to run, every place that your heart hurts, and everything that would give you every reason to justify ending the relationship. And in this case this week, both couples decided to stay together to work it out. They have a new shared vision and they both took on being better for their partners versus wishing their partners would be better for them. So I want to talk today just about some relationship tips and hacks. And it really is possible to nurture old relationships, build new ones. Especially as we grow and evolve, we are going to attract people into our lives based on where we are now. And then the relationships that have been there, they can stay and evolve too. Sometimes they go away, which can be really heartbreaking. But it is possible to nurture the old relationships and have new ones and to be your best in relationship instead of wishing that other people would be better for you. Big, big difference. When we're talking about relationships, so many people want to get something instead of thinking about what can I give and who can I be for this person? And when in my experience anyway, you're focused on who you can be and who you're being and what you can give. Karma is awesome and that it comes back to you. So with that being said, I've got five relationship hacks, if you will, that I would like to invite you to just try on today and this week. And the first one is to really care about their dreams and what is important to them. As much as you care about your dreams and what is important to you, it is really easy, especially when we are all rebounding in a pandemic and trying to pick up the pieces, to be super, super, super self absorbed. And then to want the people in our lives to care just about us and not focused on, well, what about their dreams and what about their goals? And by the way, if you're in relationships where you don't know what's important to other people, what's their vision for their life, what are their dreams, what do they want? Have those conversations, take your relationships to a deeper level, but then care as much about what's important to them as you do about what's important to you. And that is an ingredient for a relationship that's built to last. The second thing is to really think about your impact. You know, we hurt people's feelings all the time. I do it all the time without meaning to. Sometimes we meant to, but a lot of times it happens where we didn't mean to, you know. But think about, like, how can I make this person's life better? How can I be the best type of person in their life that has them feel seen, that has them feel supported, that has them feel heard and gotten? Think about how you impact people. That's another just amazing, amazing relationship hack. And then the third thing is, do you have a job description with that meaning? Do you know what type of support you are to them? I'm a lot of people's coach in retreats. I'm their facilitator. I'm also a sister, I'm a wife, I'm a mother. I'm a fun friend. I'm a friend that is an accountability partner. I have lots of different job descriptions with lots of different people. And often we miss that conversation as well. Like, especially if there's a situation where somebody's upset, you know, when, what kind of support do you need from me? Instead of just trying to figure out how to fix it or help them based on your perspective, ask and then know, like, what are we? What are we up to together? What's the vision for our relationship? And it might sound like a lot of work or silly, but I'm telling you, if your relationship has a job description, if your relationship has a, oh, I know what this person needs from me and what I need from them to really feel like this relationship is going somewhere. It's so cool to just know. You know, we have best friends, we have logistics support, we have, you know, childcare support. Know your role with people. And then the fourth thing is make sure you know for your inner circle and your closest support what their job description is with you and have that conversation. And then finally, you know, be reliable. Be your word, be somebody that the people that know you and love you and experience you can count on be reliable. And you know, it is simple, but these five things are a really, really, really big deal. You know, care about people and their lives and their dreams as much as you care about your own. And then really, really, really be thinking about, you know, what are you giving to the relationship and could you give more and how are they experiencing you? And then have you knowing your job description with people and then make sure they know their job description with you. And then finally, be reliable. And these five things, they're basic, they're simple, and they're everything in relationship, and relationships are everything because we are built for connection. We are built for relationship and it's easy to be your best when you're alone on an island. But what about being your best with people even through the challenging times? What about in relationship using relationship as an opportunity to be more of you and to be the best version of you and then to get access to where you get funky because of relationship. It's all amazing learning and then there's nothing better than deep, deep, deep, profound intimacy. And you can do that in all of your relationships. It's emotional, it's connected. I'm not talking about sex, I'm talking about emotional intimacy where you see them and they see you and you're creating something together. Healing is possible, especially in relationships.
