Rebeccah Silence explains abuse as a cycle where someone disrespected tries to regain power by disrespecting another. Victims stay trapped until they enforce boundaries and practice self-respect. You can choose to stop participating in the dynamic.
An abuse cycle means that there's a human being being disrespected, and there's a human being that is powerlessly trying to get their power back by disrespecting another life. It's never acceptable, ever. But it only happens because it happened to the abuser. And the victim continues to experience being victimized until they see the abuser as behaving from a place of innocence and then choosing to enforce boundaries and respect themselves in the face of whatever the other person is doing. So what I mean by that is we have the ability and capacity to respect ourselves no matter what another person is doing. We have the ability and the capacity to no longer identify as a victim or an abuser or to be a willing participant in abusive dynamics.
