Does vulnerability and the thought of vulnerability make your skin crawl, make you uncomfortable, freak you out? If the answer is yes, you want to stick around, because we are breaking down vulnerability and making it way more attractive, way easier to access. And I want to show you how important it is and how it can change your life in the best way.
Okay, we're going.
Okay. Three, two, one. Welcome to the Healing as Possible Experience, a show where we take you on a journey of healing, fulfillment, and joy every single week. I am your host, Rebecca Silence, author, media personality and emotional healing and relationship coach. Today, very special guest and favorite of the show, Leah Valencia Key. Back. Better than ever. Gorgeous, radiant, vulnerable. And we are dear friends and in our personal time, recently, we've been talking about vulnerability and how much it's an indicator, actually, that breakthrough is inevitable and right around the corner. Often, the more vulnerable we feel, the more on track we are and the more on the verge of greatness we are. So let's just talk about this in a way where we're neutralizing the fear and the heaviness that can be associated with this word, with this feeling of vulnerability. So without further ado, the fabulous one in a million, Leah Valencia Key. Hello, and welcome back.
Oh, I'm so happy to be back. I missed you.
Oh.
Vulnerability, it's a superpower, and it is power.
So define it. Define it in your words. What is vulnerability?
As you were speaking about it, I was envisioning what do I feel and what do I see when I think of vulnerability or when I say I'm being vulnerable. And I think vulnerability for me is exposure of maybe the undesirable things that people may look against or may not put on a pedestal. But walking in those truths boldly, for me, talking about my upbringing, it's quite vulnerable. I was born in poverty, and a lot of people don't want to share that because they're stigmas and stereotypes that go along with. If you hear where someone was raised, if they were raised in lack. And so vulnerability is walking out and saying, yes, actually, this is where I was born. Yes, I went to a public school that did not have the best education. And that's vulnerable because it's opening yourself up to possible judgment, if you will, because you're not on status quo and you're not trying to be this polished, perfect star or diamond. You're actually just walking into who you are. But I think that when you do do that, you give yourself more power because a, you're no longer hiding. You're giving all of you And. And then people are able to accept, see, and hear all of you, and then you're able to create a great version of what that stereotype may have looked like and show people a different way. And nothing else can be exposed. When you're vulnerable, stepping out on these things, or even vulnerability, to me, is stepping out on something that, you know you don't do. Well, even that is vulnerable.
Yeah. Well, okay, so the biggest thing that I think we need to just reiterate here is that when you're vulnerable, there truly is nothing to get found out about.
No.
Nothing to fear. And I think there is no authenticity or alignment without vulnerability.
Yes, exactly.
So vulnerability, it doesn't have to only be about the things that maybe you fear you'd be judged if people knew. It's. It's just you, honest and real. And I've been saying recently, Leah, that, you know, there is no cost to authenticity. There's just information. The more authentic you are, the more you see what's real where there's cost, where there is, you know, less aliveness is inauthenticity. And so the more authentic you are, the more real you are. The more information you get about what's aligned with you, but also the more vulnerable you are, the more authentic you are. And from there, oh, my God. Is the sky the limit?
Yeah, and it's kind of really. That word authentic is interesting because I know we hear it so often. It's like, what is it? What is it? And no, you. You don't have to share things that people don't need to know. Right. I think that's a fine line. But I think vulnerability is when you are up against something or when you want to do something or you want to be something, whatever that is. And they're limiting things that you may think are limitations or something that may stop you and you walk in it anyway, or you say your truth in that anyway, then people get to see all of you in that aspect. And when people. Because no human or thing truly is perfect. Right. And so people. I think that authentic concept is like seeing the most imperfect, perfect you. Because we know that that's the facts. Even if something is machine made, the odds are there's Something that's not 1000% symmetrical to it. Because we're human and we're made in these very different nuances. And I think that's what the world is looking for. They're looking for all of you. And all of you is not the bright, shiny, excellent thing. It's also your things that you're working on things you want to be, things that you may be a little weak at or like we were talking about earlier, stepping out and doing big things, and you don't know what the return is. That's actually being vulnerable. Taking risk is being vulnerable because you don't know what that outcome is. So I think vulnerability is. Has these different. It's like a Rubik's cube. Different colors, different shapes, and different parts of where you can be in your vulnerability stage. But it's all good and greatness.
Yeah. Well. And I think the more vulnerable we are, the more of a solid internal foundation we have. Knowing our values, knowing our character, knowing where we come from, but also who we are now and where we're going next. All of this requires vulnerability. And I do think more than ever, life is craving more real, fully alive people. And people are following and finding the more real you are, the more attractive you are. And so when, yes, we're talking about vulnerability as a risk worth taking, it's going to mean you see really fast what's aligned and what's not. But that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you. So take yourself on the journey of vulnerability as your foundation, and you won't ever be threatened again. On a soul level.
Yeah.
And it doesn't mean boundaryless. We're not talking about boundaryless vulnerability.
No. Share all of your. All of yours that no one needs to know about. We're not talking about that at all. But we're saying open up and kind of show. People like to see behind the curtain a little bit, you know? You know what I know Vonda really definitely does for me, it gives me grace. Because when I show up and I'm like, hey, guys, not a good speller for me. Right. Like, you're 43, and you're saying you don't spell well. What. Like, do you know what types of thoughts could come from that? But being vulnerable and saying, like, hey, didn't have the best school, and I didn't have a master's degree, but grade school wasn't the best. So I am learning on that journey, and it's not my strength. It gives people. I'm always working to be great, but it gives people to say, oh, she already said she wasn't a great speller. So if I see a typo. Right. That's where her weakness is. Oh, but her strengths are here.
Yeah.
And being strong in your strengths, like, really knowing you, like. And my strengths are this. And really being confident and courageous and open about Your strengths as well as your challenges and your weaknesses gives you nice grace and play in the world because then people know how they can swoop in and even support you too. If we're looking for support because we do nothing alone in this world.
Absolutely, absolutely. And the other thing is, I feel like the more vulnerable you are, well, you don't have to speak to every little thing you can if you need to, without it feeling like, oh, no, now I'm going to get found out. I mean, I think about, you know, when I first opened Inspired Results, my coaching company more than 15 years ago. I was very much still aware of childhood traumas and abusing alcohol and abusive relationships and eating disorders for years and years and years. And my book coming back to life, it's just chock full of all the things that for a long time I wouldn't have ever wanted people to know because I thought then they'd lose respect for me. But what happened was when I got behind this is who I am, I wouldn't change any of it. And not from an optimism or toxic positivity standpoint, but from a you know what? I don't know how I would have gotten this lesson without this season, without these coping skills, without my survival self helping me get to the place where I got strong enough to permanently break up with survival. I wouldn't change it. And now it's all here. And I can talk about it with love and your word, grace and self compassion and self respect. When you can get to the place where you respect yourself in the face of all of your flavors, seasons, versions of you, oh my God, that's freedom. And then from there, the more you can just keep your heart open. And I hear clients all the time being like, wait a minute, Rebecca, me with an open heart, that puts me at risk. But here's the thing. It's you and self protection that keeps you at risk. You with an open heart, you get to call the shots. You get to channel your inner pretty woman and say who and when and how much. We don't have to be afraid to open our heart. And from an open heart, I can say, here's what's a yes for me, here's what's a no for me and let you be uncomfortable. I'm not uncomfortable because I just know myself.
Oh, I think that's one of my secret sauce keys that unlock. I mean, I'm always deeply checking in with myself, where I'm at, how am I, who am I. Sometimes I'm not in the best space and Then I gotta figure out how do I get there. But when I get to, I can say no lovingly and I can now know is from true love and be okay with saying that it's from a loving place. So no matter how the receiver received it, I know it's within good intention for whatever the cause is. And then I can say yes full heartedly, you know, and so I think that is cool that when you can, I think that helps, you can get to those no's. Like you said, when you can get comfortable with that vulnerable space of you finding out truly who you are, where you are and where you want to be, which is really cool because that's also vulnerable, right? Sometimes we don't even want to speak the big dream out. It's vulnerable to say, hey, I want to be top global speaker in the world. Oh, why would I say that? Now that's vulnerable. People are gonna fill in the blank. Or maybe, and maybe it's not people. Sometimes you even need to be vulnerable with your own self, right? Because when you say something big like that, then even your own self says, can you? You know, and that's a vulnerable space where you are in conflict. Conflict with your own self. And now you gotta tell your own self as possible. And that, and that's an interesting space. But when you can speak that out, then you can get to like all of your dreams, all of your you that's supposed to be you, which is so beautiful.
Well, and if you can see it with the right support, I truly believe there's nothing you can't create if you can imagine it, it's realistic. I hate when people, and I know it's a strong word, but when we confuse what's realistic with what we've seen done before, and it's realistic versus no, I have the vision, so it must be realistic. And I think a great process for all of you watching today is vulnerably write down your dreams. Now, regardless or not, you see the path to how you can do it. If you can see it, write it down, claim it as a possibility for yourself and then find support that's aligned to help you get there. And that's what Leah and I are for each other behind the scenes, supporting each other's biggest, scariest, wildest, vulnerable, vulnerable dreams. I'm vulnerable with you, you're vulnerable with me. And wow, has life grown in the time that we've known each other and supported each other. And to me it's, it's a direct correlation. Me vulnerably claiming my vision and being vulnerable with another person about it and being so supportive of.
Yes, of course we can. It's possible. I love it's possible. And your dreams can be all types of things. It could be career, it could be healing, it could be health, it could be relationship, it could be your own personal mindset journey. So whatever those dreams are, don't limit them to one category. Dreaming.
All for it. Go for it. Go for it. I used to put myself on this process. Here's me on a platter. Take it or leave it. Because I'm not leaving it. I'm not leaving me. So we love you all. Leah.
