Confession Tuesday 2/16/16 WONT FART IN FRONT OF ME

A short studio segment (Feb 2016) featuring local life coach Rebecca Silence and host Gary Spears. They open with light banter and announcements about Rebecca's coaching services and upcoming events, then address a listener's confession about not feeling comfortable passing gas around a partner. Rebecca frames passing gas as a marker of authenticity and gives coaching homework: journal fears and consider coaching/therapy to work through emotional blocks so one can be fully oneself in relationships.
It is a confession. Tuesday, local life coach Rebecca silence is in studio. Good morning.
Good morning.
So how was Valentine's Day?
Valentine's Day was wonderful. My family went to winter carnival in Saranac Lake and Lake Placid.
Awesome.
Yeah. We had a really nice little freezing getaway weekend. It was so cold. And I will just say that little things kept happening. Like the ceiling in the hotel started leaking, and there was plaster in our bed. We clipped a deer and little, little things.
That's the little, little things. You hit a deer, Rebecca.
He clipped it. He ran away. The car was fine. We were fine.
Okay, all right, all right, okay.
The point is, even when things aren't your preference, it's possible to become a tighter team. That's what happened with Mark and I this weekend. We just became such a tight team. The baby did not want to sleep. She was, like, on a bender awake, laughing all night long both nights we were there. But we just had fun together, which is so what all of us needed.
That's. And I would imagine that with. Whether it be a work group, especially if you're in a management position or if it's a family or a relationship, sometimes you need to step away from the norm and just remember, you know, almost like a. Like a reset button, if you will. You know what I'm saying? Does that make sense?
Oh, absolutely. And our little family needed that this weekend. And it was just fun to be on Mark's team. Team and able to figure out whatever happened. We had a good time.

Absolutely. And details for all that inspired results. Coach.com all right, so are you ready for this week's? Okay. Dear Rebecca, let's see here. I remember an interview with some celebrity gave where she said she knows her relationship was real because she could pass gas in front of her boyfriend. I've been in a relationship for almost a year and I can tell you we never pass gas around each other. I think I've done it by once on accident, and we both took it in stride. But we're not sitting around letting him rip. In fact, I actually told him that I don't want him doing that around me because it's disgusting and I certainly don't do it around him. And is my relationship a weird one? Is it gross to pass gas around a significant other? Do most couples actually do that?
Oh, this is one for the books. Thank you for your email. And how honest are you? I love it. So, you know, your relationship doesn't have to look like anybody else's or smell like any other. It's gonna smell different. It's gonna look different, it's gonna feel different. This is yours. So, you know, I don't think there's any right or way wrong to do it or right or wrong way to do it. But what I will suggest is that what I think the passing of gas represents is you being fully comfortable, confident and authentic. And I do think that that is the key to a great, long lasting relationship. So there's nothing that you can do if you're with the right person to screw things up, including passing gas. Right. If you're with the right person, they're gonna be willing to grow with you. Love anything that goes on, including breaking wind. Absolutely. And then how many people are afraid to really show all of themselves to their partner? Right. Including the Gas. But on a more serious note, all of you is the total package, and that's perfect. And whoever's with you actually is really lucky to get to see all of that. So my coaching is don't hold back anything about who you really are.
You know, later on today, someone is gonna break win in front of their significant other, and they're gonna be like, Rebecca Salad says you should be thankful. And you're lucky to get this.
I stand behind that 100%. Absolutely. Let it all hang out. Why not? What a great test to see if you can handle being fully you in your relationship and if your partner can too. And if they can't and they give you a hard time. Okay, come on. Next.
Well, let me ask you this. Maybe this is, you know, it's a funny way to talk about, but what if this is? Well, if you don't feel comfortable with this, what other things are you not comfortable with that you aren't showing them?
Yeah. Gary Spears, life coach, ladies and gentlemen.
Am I right, though?
Absolutely. And I love it. You're right where I was going next. So this is just one small issue that could definitely represent more. And I had an old coach that used to say, how you do anything is how you do everything. Wow.
Wow. That's deep and true. Yeah.
So check it out for yourself. Right? So if you let yourself off the hook over here, where else do you. Right. If you're afraid to show all of you over here, where else Is that true? Right. So, yeah, absolutely. And then I want everyone out there in a relationship to think about not only treating your partner the way you want to be treated, but showing up in the relationship the way you want your partner to show up. So if you're holding back, what if energetically, that gives your partner permission to hold back too? And if you don't want your partner holding back or hiding things or being insecure and self conscious, then you handle that first step into being fully you, confident, open, and then that actually energetically gives your partner permission to do the same thing.
Wow.
So.
What'S the homework? Is it like letting one squeak out?
I think the homework is to actually. And this would be really good homework assignment for anybody whether you're in a relationship or not. And for those of you who aren't in a relationship, this might be why you're not in a relationship. So this homework assignment could help you actually journal. And if you're like a dear diary, write it out person, go for that. Or you can just make a list. But I want you to journal or list all of the things that scare you about a relationship, all of the things that you wouldn't want your partner or a potential partner to find out about. You put it all on paper because these thoughts are haunting you whether you write them down or not. So get it out of your body and get it onto the page. Write down all of the things that you would be afraid of a partner or your partner to see in you or to find out about you. Ooh.
Ooh, that's rough.
But if you give it a voice, you're one step closer to healing those issues. So then from there. So that's step one. Then from there, I would highly encourage you to find a coach or a mentor or a therapist to help you work through the fear around these things so that you can get to the point where it's just neutral. No big deal. These things used to scare me. Now I have them handled. So now I'm ready for the best relationship of my life.

A confession to that homework will change your life.
That's. It's incredible. That sounds.
That sounds.
It's scary. It sounds like scary and oh, my God.
Right? But once you do it running you already, whether you look at it or not. Look at it.
Say that again.
All of these fears are running your life already, whether you want to see that or whether you realize it or not.
