Creating downtime without guilt with Sarah Kaczor Greco

Rebeccah Silence and Sarah Kaczor Greco talk about their Monday morning walks and why downtime matters. They discuss how companionship and fresh air help them step away from to-do lists, and why guilt often gets in the way of rest.
Good morning. I'm Rebecca Silence.
I'm Sarah Kaiser Greco.
And in 7 degrees, the two of us decided to get together and go for a power walk this morning. And what we would like to do is offer our perspective on our Monday morning conversations and our chilly walks. We are determined, no matter what the weather, to get out and, as a sisterhood, join each other.
That's right. And not necessarily walking, you know, for exercise or because we want our body to be a certain way, but really taking this walk because the companionship we experience and the exercise, the fresh air itself, elevates the body, elevates the mind, and for me especially, creates a sense of joy, especially with the companionship part and peace. So this morning, part of my downtime is actually filling my space with good people.
Absolutely. And what we were talking about today is our commitment for moving into 2017 in just honoring downtime and not rejecting it or getting defensive about it. For me, I've kind of been at war with the idea of downtime because I want to be busy and productive. But what I know for myself moving into 2017 is that I want to frolic more and I want to have downtime just because. Not because I'm sick and need an excuse to create it, but just because I deserve it.
Yeah. You know, and I have a long to do list, and I'm sure many of you ladies out there can relate with that. And when I'm not pretty productive and engaged in my to do list, I sometimes really have a hard time with that space. And I've realized that I really want to fill it with the activities and experiences that really nurture my soul. Because when I go out there and fulfill my to do list, I'm fulfilling it for people that I love and care about and respect. And so I want to be my best. And to be my best means that I've got to really give myself the best kind of care I can. And that happens in the downtime when I'm taking that space away from the to do list.
Absolutely. So we would love to hear from you. How do you create downtime? What's your favorite type of downtime? What are your struggles in embracing downtime? And stay tuned for more Monday morning conversations from Sarah and I. And have a great week.
