Grief Prevention 101: What to Ask Before You Say Goodbye

This is a short live radio/YouTube segment (Mental Wellness Wednesday) where host Gary and coach Rebeccah Silence discuss 'Grief Prevention' by proactively capturing life stories of loved ones. Rebeccah recommends using Brendon Burchard's life interview questions (a free PDF of about 32 questions) as a guided questionnaire to spark storytelling, which Gary plans to record with his grandmother. They emphasize that recording these interviews—now, while loved ones are still well—preserves memories, reduces future regrets, and can even be used with AI to keep a conversational likeness after someone passes.

Foreign, we're live and local. It's big papa in the morning mix sort of 2.5 on a mental wellness Wednesday. The unsilent woman Rebecca Silence online. Two places. Rebecca silence.com or the unsilent woman.com Rebecca, good morning. How are you?
Well, I'm so glad to be with you all today and I have all my love and best juju that I'm bringing with me. So let's make some magic happen.
Listen, I need all the juju and jojo and ho ho and whatever else you got.
Don't I know it.
Yeah, I've been pretty open about going to be going through some health things and she over the last month of three of the last four weeks she's been at the, at the Wynn luxury resort in day spa. You know, I say that tongue in cheek but they've been amazing there. Everyone that's cared for her has been fantastic. Not because, you know it's grandma B or it's big Papa's mama just because it's her. But what I'd like to talk about is kind of like what I'm going through as far as you have a loved one and things are very serious medically. And I want to talk about this thing that you sent me, the interview.
Yeah. Okay. Because I'm about that is my number one recommendation. Absolutely.
I'm about to do this with grandma baby and what I'm going to do, I printed it out. I have it right here.
Okay.
I printed it out. What I'm going to do is I'm going to set up a tripod and I'm going to record her. I'm going to record the interview.
Yeah.
And what I love about this is well, before we, before I talk about it more, let's, let's talk about, you know, let's set it up and then let's talk about what this is.
Yeah. So what I sent Gary, I've been checking in regularly is Brendon Burchard's life interview questions. So, so I'm a coach with a coach and a coach and a mastermind and I train with the best in the world and Brendon Burchard is one of my mentors. He's the world leading high performance coach and I'm in his mastermind ultra. And I just found out I've been working with Brendan since 2019 but I just found out about this actually this year and went ahead and did the interview with my mother in law which was so precious. She's in her mid-80s. She's incredible. We're not anticipating her going anywhere anytime soon, but she's in this place right now where she's healthy, and she's been through it the last several years, multiple surgeries, et cetera. And I. I just thought, let's capture her, like, now in this place where she's feeling good, she's looking great, and, you know, I. I think our loved ones have so much to share, and we don't always capture it on film. Who they are, where they come from, what they believe in, what their values are, what memory shaped them, what heartbr shaped them, what have they learned about love and leadership and all the things. So what I sent Gary was. I believe it's around 35 questions, and it's this just ready to go, ready for you interview for your loved ones. And while we're in the age of A.I. i mean, you can even clone a relative, you know, and. And take all of this interview and put it into AI So you could talk to them anytime you want, you know, after they pass. And not being morbid, but we live in an age where we can capt. Capture and keep with us the memory and the spirit alive and well of those that matter most to us. So this interview is here for whenever you want to capture someone. It doesn't need to be at the end of their life. And I just think it's super special and sacred.
When obviously I'm a b. Has been going through it, and it's. It's. Hasn't been the best of times the past couple weeks. So I opened this up, and I'm not gonna lie, I. You sent me this thing, and I'm like, I just don't have time to look at this right now. And then, you know, I was just sitting there and I opened it up and I started looking at it, and these are 32 questions. And it's not. Because you say interview. You're thinking very formal. What this is. This is. This literally is a questionnaire that leads them into telling stories about themselves, about their past, about who they are, and because they're. Whether it's your parents or loved them, whatever it is, you're so used to seeing them in a certain way and dealing with whatever's right in front of you. Sometimes you forget that they have a past without you. And this literally sparks conversations and stories about all these different things. And it's. These really are incredible. Like, what did you love to do in high school? You know, what do you remember most about your mom? Like, that kind of stuff.
What three decisions Shaped your life the most, I think is one.
Right. What times in your life truly tested your mettle? And what did you learn about yourself by dealing or not dealing with them? Like, come on, were you ever scared to be a parent? Like, these are. These are amazing. And I was telling Rebecca before we started that I'm going to do this with Grandma B. I'm going to start this today. And, yeah, I'm very. I don't want to say excited, but I'm very interested to hear the stories that I haven't heard yet.
Yeah.
You know, because I think I know her so, so well. But there are certain things that I don't know, and I'm looking forward to, you know, learning that.
I think it's so beautiful. I have chills everywhere, tears in my eyes. I'm so glad you're gonna do this. And I know I gently nudged you more than once to really consider this at this time. Right. With no pressure, but I think the right energy to be in for anyone that wants to do this. And all you have to do is Google Brendon Burchard's life interview questions. It's free. It's a PDF. You print it out. But, you know, I don't want anyone who has someone they love to have regrets down the road. Right, Right. There's birth, death, rebirth. We just never know. And it breaks my heart that often it takes a crisis or a breakdown or a health issue for people to wake up and go, I haven't been as present as I could be. I haven't been as loving as I could be. I haven't made the time like I could. And let's not need there to be crisis or breakdown, and let's really prioritize those we love and have those quality moments and make sure you have no regrets later. And I think this interview is a great way to make sure there are no regrets and that no stone is left unturned and that you've opened your heart and given this beautiful person that you care so much about. The gift of being witnessed. I think the most important part of this interview is you get to witness this person and they get to share their story. Where they came from, what shaped them, what their fears were, how they dealt with that, what mistakes they made, how they dealt with that. It is such a precious gift for both of you. But to witness the person you love and to really see this exercise is a gift you're giving them. I've had clients over the years, you know, that, you know, we've talked about okay. Doing something similar to this before I learned about this interview. And they'd be afraid, wait a minute. What if I get rejected? What if they don't want to do this? If. If that's crossing your mind, you're not going to make anything worse. You're not going to threaten them or the relationship. You're offering a gift. And if they don't want to and they're really adamant about that, okay, at least you tried. But I've never seen it where you get vulnerable and risk it and it doesn't go well in a situation like this. Go for it.
I know that we went long today, but this one's super important. And if you literally send me a message and I'll email you the PDF, I have it right. It's right here in my hand.
