So start by communicating with yourself. What's true now, what takes care of me now? What do I want now? From there, what would work that I can talk to this person about? And I'm willing to go back and forth until we get to a solution that works for both of us, new ways to communicate. And don't be afraid if they're going to be upset because you've gone to their house for 20 years for Thanksgiving, and this year that doesn't feel good. That's their work to process. And you can let them know, I'm willing to see you the day before, the day after, the week before, the week after. I'd love to host it in my home this year, whatever it is. But offer the solution with an open heart, with no fear. Let them have their experience, and at least the relationship is getting more honest.
