Two people discuss handling conflict without taking it personally. If someone treats you badly, that's how they treat everyone. Staying true to yourself, even when others don't change, is what matters.
We assume conflict is bad or wrong instead of when there's conflict, I get to see who you really are.
So everybody has arguments, everybody has disagreements from, from time to time. What is a way to not take things personally?
Okay, think about this, okay? We are easily the best of ourselves when life is going our way. But when conflict strikes, that's when you meet somebody. So the next most important thing I can say here is they are always showing you who they are and how they show up is how they show up. So if it's not with you, it's with the next person they're interacting with. That's why it's never personal. That doesn't mean it's not painful. I was coaching a guy recently and he was having a huge issue with a coworker and I asked him, do you think This is personal. Is he just showing up like this with you and with nobody else in the company? And my client was gobsmacked, literally gobsmacked. Like, wait a minute, no, this is what he does with everybody. I'm like, right. So either his bad behavior is leading you or you stay the best of you and your energy leads the moment. And just try this on, even write it down in a journal. I am someone who is never less me for anybody, for any reason. That has been my life for the past 20 years. I'm not gonna be less me because of you. Or your bad behavior. So not only do you get to see who they really are, which is good information, but you get to see who you really are in the face of conflict.
