Rich explains a strategy to increase SMS opt-in rates by changing the order of information requested on landing pages, emphasizing reducing friction and building trust with users.
Here's how my friend Nick got 51% more SMS opt ins by making this stupid simple tweak to his funnel. You know usually when you're collecting users information you're asking for name, email, phone number, et cetera, all on the landing page. But what you need to do is simply move the phone number request from the initial opt in page to actually the thank you page. On your initial opt in page only ask for the user's name and email. This will keep the form shorter with less friction which will boost your opt in rate. Then on the thank you page, after they've committed ask for their phone number. Frame it in a way that the user is about to receive some exclusive updates and benefits if they do sign up for the mobile alert. By reducing the number of fields on the initial opt in page, you can increase the chances of the users filling out their form. Once they've given you their name and email address, they're committed and they are more likely to trust you and actually give you their phone number. On the thank you page the key is to position the request as a way for the customer to receive some extra kind of benefit. This method has been tested, it's been proven to significantly increase mobile opt ins and some businesses have seen their opt in rates go as high as 51% for mobile.
