This is a YouTube video titled "Discussing Attention and Marketing with Gary Vee at Burger King at 2am in 2008!" containing a monologue by Rich Schefren recounting a late-night conversation with Gary Vee about marketing and attention. Rich reflects on Gary's charisma and authenticity as key factors in his rise to prominence in social media and business.
Gary Vee and I were having a deep conversation in a hotel lobby about attention in marketing for hours back in 2008, we were both starving, but it was 2am so we hopped in my car to get something to eat. Back then I knew he was going to be huge because of this one reason. You see, I met him on an interview that we did together and we immediately hit it off. And as a favor to me, he came down to an event I was doing at Disney so that he could speak. Back then, I already understood the reason why Gary would be the big business tycoon that he is right now today. Since it was 2am only, the drive thru at Burger King was still open. So we drove there and we both got a burger and diet Coke and I paid and handed the cashier $100 bill and she handed me the burgers and the drinks. We were so deep in conversation though, we both forgot about the money until we got back to the hotel. So I ended up giving a $90 tip to the drive thru person. One thing I noticed about Gary is his incredible charisma and it's one of the reasons he's so persuasive. You combine that with his authenticity and it truly is a killer one, two punch. It's what makes you must listen when Gary is speaking to you and it's why I forgot about getting that night. And it's one of the main reasons he has the insanely huge social media presence that he has today. He's incredibly charismatic and persuasive and back then because of that reason, it was obvious to me that he was going well on his way to being one of the biggest names online.
