This is a YouTube video titled "How I got 10x more retention on my products than my competitors" featuring Rich Schefren explaining his strategy for achieving significantly higher customer retention by using different packaging for his subscription products compared to his competitors. The content is a monologue focused on marketing and product retention strategies, created in July 2024.
Here's how. I got 10 times more retention than my competitors on my subscription products. You see, when we look at the products, the quality were the same, the price was the same, and yet I was still able to get people retain them longer, 10 times longer than my competitors. And there was only one thing different. But that one thing helped me get greater retention than everyone else selling the same type of information. And the one thing I did differently was packaging. Let me explain. You see, myself and my competitors at that time were selling information about Internet marketing. But my competitors made a huge blunder. They started packaging their information as magazines and spent a lot more money to do it. You see, I was charging $50 a month for my reports, and they were also charging around the same price, $50, but for their magazine. But who has a reference point of paying $50 for a magazine? The point I'm trying to make here is that they were packaging their content in a different format, and that format already had a preconceived price point. The magazines, as you know, probably go for $4, $5, $6, $7, but certainly not $50, because nobody buys magazines for $50. But people do buy reports for $50. I was selling my information in a report format, and this allowed me to get a much greater retention than all my competitors. You see, when we see things, we immediately categorize them as what they are and what's a fair price for that thing. With a little bit of difference in packaging, you can change the entire game because there's no longer any preconceived price point. And that allows you to make a lot more profits and allows you to stay in a category of one.
