This is a YouTube video titled "I hung out with the Mafia and they taught me this…" featuring Rich Schefren sharing a personal story from his childhood about learning strategic thinking and finding hidden angles in life from observing the Mafia's manipulation of horse races. The content is a monologue or personal narrative focused on life lessons and mindset.
I hung out with the Mafia in my childhood, and they taught me this lesson that has consistently helped me throughout my life. See, I was just a kid at the time, and I actually learned this when I saw them commit several crimes. And I learned that there's always a way to game the system. Back then, I was only 14 years old when I met Dominic and his crew, and we used to bet on horse races. When I started to hang out with them more and more, I realized that he and his friends were fixing those horse races. They would pay five out of the eight jockeys not to come in first, second, or third. So this way, nobody knew who was going to win, even the jockeys that were going to win. Dominic and his friends simply bet on those three horses that they knew would come either in first, second, or third because they paid all the other ones to not come in the first three. They would win and take all the money home. You see, what they did, they found a loophole and gained the whole system. This taught me that there's always an angle to something. There's always an underlying game going on that you might not be privy to. Now, I'm not telling you to go fix horse races, okay? That's illegal. What I am trying to tell you is always stay alert and hypervigilant to the real, real game. That's often invisible and not easy to see on the surface. Look beyond the obvious and think strategically, because when you face a problem, ask yourself, what's the hidden angle here? This mindset will help you navigate life's complexities with a sense of calm and control. And you'll often find hidden solutions that not only solve the problem, but set you up righteously to be better because of it.
