Rich Schefren argues that chasing every opportunity is a recipe for failure. Instead, entrepreneurs should focus on creating genuine value and being the right fit for their market, not just filling a need.
Don't be so concerned with what other people are doing. Just because there's a need out there doesn't mean that you're the right person to fill it. If you want to get married, you don't go out there looking for the most desperate person to just propose to. You want to be married to the person that actually is worthwhile and you can have a lifetime relationship with. Just because there's a need. If you're not the right person to fill it, then you're setting yourself up for eventual doom and failure. At the end of the day, the hottest opportunity is to do a business where you create value and do it in a better way than what's out there.
