Why Every Christian Should Start A Business

Rick Pino, who has led worship in 79 nations, argues Christians should start businesses as spiritual work. He and his wife built multiple eight-figure companies and say the Bible calls believers to build both altars (spiritual devotion) and cities (economies). Business enables generosity and creates jobs.

Every single week we post multiple times a week and just trying to bring you some free game. Well, for those who don't know, my name is Rick Pino and I wanted to just take a few minutes and give you a heart to heart from someone who's been in the ministry world. And now I'm in the marketplace world. And it's been an incredible journey, if you don't know. For the past 25 years, my wife and I, we've been involved in worship and missions ministry. Basically 79 nations all over the globe, everywhere from slums to stadiums and everything in between, we've had the, the immense honor and joy to serve God's people, to serve the lost, just to serve in that capacity. And it was so interesting because the whole entire time that we were in the ministry doing missions and worship and day and night prayer and all the stuff that we're doing all over the world, we were receiving so many words about wealth, about business, about stewardship of finances. And honestly, we just didn't know what to do with it because it's a very common human trait that all of us have. And the trait that I'm talking about is to try to figure out the future with our limited understanding that we only have in the present. So with that being said, we were getting all of these words like shaking stadiums and doing missions trips. Honestly, we'd go to like 20 or 30 missions trips a year at the height of our ministry days. It was awesome. And the whole time, like, no matter where we went in the world, it was like business, wealth, you know, like finances, all this stuff. We're like, okay. And again, because we had limited understanding in the moment, we were trying to figure out our future with our limited present understanding. We were just thinking, oh, maybe God's gonna bless our ministry. Maybe a big donor is gonna come and like give us some donations. Maybe we're gonna, maybe that's how God's gonna do it, you know, maybe God's plan for us is to like you know, continue doing the ministry and somehow it's just gonna blow up and more Money and more impact are gonna happen. But like a lot of things in life, that is not how God intended for it to happen for us. In fact, I personally believe that God desires right now for his out of Proverbs where it says, the wealth of the wicked is stored up for the righteous. I believe that we are in a critical moment right now in the body of Christ where God is highlighting certain individuals, many of you guys and girls watching right now, who feel called to the marketplace out of the ministry. And by the way, I'm not in any way saying you should leave the ministry or quit the church or like, whatever it is, or like, stop being a missionary. I'm not saying any of that. But. But what I am saying is this. If God is tapping you on the shoulder right now and saying, yo, it's time to start that business, start that side hustle, figure this money and this finance thing out so that you can do more ministry, make a bigger impact, what I am saying is, if that's you, then you can do both. Okay? Or maybe God's desire for you is to step out of the ministry world and into the marketplace world. And I just want to, as somebody who's already walked that path, I just want to release a comforting word to you and say that it's okay if that's the path too. Because, you know, a lot of times as priests, and I'm going to talk to those of us who come from the ministry world or, you know, church background or missions background, worship and prayer background, a lot of us priests, right, we have the limited understanding in the present to say, well, God, you know, he wants to only do the priesthood. And honestly, this was my understanding, this was my intention, my belief for a long time. Like, oh, it's. It's only the priesthood. Even though I knew in theory that it was priests and kings together, even though I had songs and even prophetic utterances in my worship about priests and kings and this dynamic working together, even though all of that was happening for me at the time, being in missions and ministry and worship, you know, my limited understanding was, oh, well, in theory, it could be priests and kings, but, you know, really it's just priests. And maybe in theory you could be a king too, when in reality I believe that God is saying it's not one or the other, it's both. And in fact, I've put out trainings about this before. But just a quick recap, and then I want to actually just take a few moments and share my heart with you. Some insights that I Know, are going to really bring some illumination to your process, to your journey, and hopefully help you along the way as you're navigating this really critical season. In my vocational ministry days, okay, where worship and missions and ministry was my vocational job, I spoke about, and I still speak about this a lot. I spoke about altars all the time, right? And by the way, I'm still a huge altars guy. I believe we need to have altars. We need to have established devotional, daily devotional altars in our life where we make fresh eye contact with Jesus, where we lay our lives down on the altar every single day and God encounters us. Obviously, we need to rebuild the family altar in our nations. We need to have national altars where our nations take moments and cry out to God for his mercy, for his wisdom. I'm all about altars, okay? But again, as a vocational priest, a lot of times all you can see is the altar. But is now my conviction being not just a priest but growing into kingship? Okay, it is now my conviction we don't just only need altars. Yes, we need them. And in my belief, we need them first as the primary thing. That place of encounter, that place of sacrifice, that place of prayer, worship, devotion, that's the first. But it's not only altars. I believe that. It's altars and cities together. What is a city? I believe a city represents the kingly side of this two part grace, this two part calling that God is calling his people to. Not just priests, but priests and kings. Okay, he's the king of kings. So what does that mean? It means he wants us to learn how to be kings and queens so that we can learn how to rule and reign with Him. And I'll get to that here in a second. But anyways, we need to have altars and cities and not just cities and not just altars. We need to have both. And, and unfortunately for those of us priests, and again, it's not like you priests, it's us priests, because I'm a priest first. Okay? For those of us priests who only have the understanding of, you know, ministry and missions and worships and worship and building God's kingdom, that's all we can see. And that's the only context that we, that we view life through those lenses, okay? We're so focused on the altar. Let us not forget the cities, because the cities represent, in my opinion, cities represent that kingly grace where we build economies, where, where we build systems, where we build jobs for other people, where we're not Just dependent on the offering coming into God's house so we could live off of a portion. But we know how to establish economies, we know how to build business, we know how to build, period, so that other people's lives could be enhanced and made rich, not just in the spirit, but in the natural. Not just taking dominion in the spiritual things, but taking dominion in the natural things as well. To me, that's what a city represents. And unfortunately, a lot of kings or queens, they only have the understanding or the revelation or the insight on, we need to build businesses. Because the more we could build businesses, the more we could bring God glory in the marketplace. By the way, I agree with that, but it's not the only thing, okay? And all of us priests who are like, we need to build altars because we need to bring God glory by establishing places of his presence. Yes, I agree with that. But unfortunately, whenever we look through the lens of one or the other, okay, it leads us to the place of having altars without cities and cities without altars. And it is my conviction now being not just a priest, but becoming a king, okay? And by the way, if you didn't know, my wife and I, God's been teaching us how to be a king and a queen for the past seven, eight years now. We've done multiple eight figures in our businesses. So I'm not a master, I'm not an expert by any means, but we're learning, okay? I don't say any of that to boast. I'm just saying, like, God's doing this in our lives. And chances are, if you're watching this, he wants to do something similar in your life as well. Or maybe he's already doing something similar in your life. But as priests and kings, we can't just be focused only on the altar or only on the city, which we need to be focused on altars with cities and cities with altars, because, guys, for eternity, yes, as priests, we see the eternal in the priesthood, in the altar, in worship and prayer. We see and touch the eternal in that. But I want to share a story with you on how God's been illuminating my heart and bringing revelation to me on not just the eternal in the priesthood, but the eternal in the kingship as well. So just to be vulnerable with you, obviously, being a priest for 25 years, as a vocational minister, 79 nations. I mean, it's. It's literally all I've done Since I was 11 years old, with the exception of these past handful plus years, all I've done is Be a minister, be a priest unto God with worship and prayer. And so understandably, I miss it.

Now back to the training. I miss it as my vocational thing. Now, of course there's going to be some of the religious people watching, like, you didn't leave the ministry, brother. You're still in the ministry. I get it. But I'm talking about as my primary job to be a vocational priest. Yes, I am still a priest. Yes, I still worship. Yes, I still pray. Yes, I still am in intercession. Yes, I'm still all about the Tabernacle of David, building God's house. Yes, yes, yes, yes. But I'm talking about to the point where it is my physical job and it's how I create a living for my family. I'm not doing that right now in that capacity. Okay? That's what I'm saying. And because that is all I've done since I was 11 years old. I miss it. Right? Like, I absolutely miss it. And of course, some people. You could do both, brother.
I get it.
But let me just tell you my story, okay? I was in prayer a few weeks ago, probably about a month ago now. And honestly, I'm wrestling with God over this idea that God, you know, it's interesting and I'm thankful, but so interesting. You've done such a cool work in me and my wife's life. You've blessed our businesses. We've had multiple businesses. We've made millions and millions of dollars. God, isn't there a way for me to just like, not do this business thing anymore and just go back to the priesthood? Because really, that's where, like, my heart is Rooted. That is my North Star, and God knows it. And my North Star is just to sit before you and minister to you all day long, God. Like, you know, that's what I desire to do. And I was just weeping over, like, God, I know that your hand is on me to do this business stuff right now, but is there any way I could just, like, haven't we done enough? Haven't we made enough money? Can't I just go back to the thing that I'm comfortable with doing? And it's so interesting because I felt the Holy Spirit say, why do you miss that so much? Like, not in a challenging, confronting way, but, like, in a way that only a father could ask to get the son thinking differently. And I said, well, I miss it tremendously because I guess it boils down to, like, I could feel the eternal impact in the priesthood with worship, with intercession, with prayer, with ministering to people, with prophesying and helping people. Again, I still do all of that, just not in a vocational way right now as my primary source of income. But you heard I'm saying, God, I miss it. And I felt like I touched the eternal with that and here with business. I just feel like I'm just making money. And honestly, like, thank you. You've helped me. I know how to make money now. It's easy to make money now. I don't necessarily feel the eternal in this. You know, what's the point? Don't we have enough? And the Holy Spirit challenged me right there in that moment and said, why don't you fill the eternal in this the same way you felt the eternal in the priesthood? And I said, well, I don't know. I never thought about that before. Is there eternal significance in being a king and building businesses and learning how to rule and reign? Is there eternal significance in that? And I started thinking about it. I said, wow. I think there actually is, because here's the thing. There's obvious eternal impact in our ministries where we, you know, worship and pray. And, yes, that goes on forever. And by the way, like, I'm gonna be the. If God allows, I'm gonna be the first in line before the throne, worshiping forever and ever and ever and ever as my primary thing, I hope, right? That's. That is my heart. But God began to open up and illuminate to me. Listen, there is eternal implication as well in business as there is in the priesthood, in being a king, as there is being a minister. And I say, okay, well, how is that God? And then he brings me to the book of Revelation, where it literally says we are called to be kings and priests. Think about this. Why is there eternal impact in the place of kingship or building businesses? The same way that there is eternal impact in the place of being a vocational priest or a minister? Because for eternity, we're not just going to worship only. That's going to be the primary thing, right? Yes. I can't wait. But for eternity, we're not just going to worship only. We will also be ruling and reigning with Jesus for eternity in whatever other creation or creations that he so desires to invite us into, to partner with him in. And I'm telling you this right now because we learn out of the parable of the talons, okay? Especially I believe it was Luke's account where the one who had been given five talents, who turned it into 10, the master said something interesting to him, I believe is in Luke's account where he said, well done, good and faithful servant. You've been faithful over litter little. And then he says, now I will entrust you over 10 cities. Wait, wait, wait, wait. What? Like, it's so interesting to understand as not just priests, but as kings and queens, okay? The eternal impact that we are having right now in learning how to build businesses, establish economies, set up systems to run teams to hire people, to fire people to run our businesses and build our systems with morality and ethics behind what we're doing it in a righteous way. Why is all that important when it comes to eternity? Because it is my conviction that for eternity we will not worship only. It will be a massive part, but we will also be building. We will also be ruling, we will also be reigning. So why is this, the story from the Parable of the Talons so important to us when it comes to the kings and priests reality? Because. Because I believe it is my conviction that in this life, as we priests before God and as we king before God or queen, right, that every single opportunity we have on the kingship side to establish systems and to multiply. Not just add, but to multiply. Not just pray only, but to take action towards our faith, right? Not just to believe God's gonna poof something into our laps. That's what a lot of priests do, right? And listen, there's a time and place for miracles, but it's not God's best for his people to only live off of miracles. It's God's best for his people to live off of wisdom and revelation, right? To. To flourish in the place of understanding, right? God wants us to be wise sons and daughters. He wants us to rule and reign and learn how to rule and reign. Because I just believe that if we can take a moment in this life and learn how to establish systems and government and build economies, learn how money works, learn how to do our taxes, like if we can learn systems and procedures now, no matter how big or small we get them now, if we can just multiply that here, perhaps, perhaps it's actually the training ground that God wants. Those of us who he's tapping on the shoulder right now saying, hey, you're a great priest, you're doing great in the ministry, you're great in missions, but I am also calling you to business in this season. Could it be that us learning business, learning about finances, learning the game of how stewardship actually works, not just as a priest, but as a king, could it be that this is the training ground that God wants to use? Or one of them that God wants to use in order to prepare us for what is coming in the age to come, not only as people who worship and sit before him, right? But also as people who he can delegate responsibility to. Because Jesus as the king of kings, okay, if he's always going to be the king of kings, that means there's always going to be some kings and some queens that work with him. Now, I don't know about you, but I, I, in this season of my journey, I understand now at least a portion. You know, I've done it for 25 years. I understand now a little bit of what it means to be a priest. But in this season, I am wanting and I'm desiring and I'm asking God for wisdom and insight and revelation, understanding on what it means to be a king or a queen, if you're a woman watching. Because I just believe, my friends, that God is beginning to tap some of us on the shoulders and say, okay, you've done good in the ministry, but it's time for you to learn how to be a steward. It's time for you to learn how to set these other systems up in place. Because I believe that God desires for some of us here, most of you guys and gals watching this, if you've made it this far, then you're definitely one of these ones. Ones. But I believe that God desires for a number of his people to be actual priests and actual kings or queens in the age to come. Not just now, here on the earth, where we do a nice missions trip, we prophesy over somebody, we have a nice little business. I'm talking about being faithful over little, you know, being faithful over our churches, being faithful over our ministries, being faithful over the nations he's called us to, to minister to. Being faithful over our words that we speak and prophesy, being faithful in our devotion, but also being faithful in learning, marketing and sales and business and stewardship and running economies and providing and establishing jobs for employees and learning systems and procedures. The same way that God is saying, there's eternal in this, I believe and I wanna submit to you, there's also the eternal in this kingship expression that God is rolling out right now in this season as well. So here's what I wanna encourage you with, okay? If you are a pastor, a minister, a missionary, a worshiper, someone doing vocational ministry, or you're just, you're in the ministry, you're working at a church or pastoring a church, doing missions, worship, whatever it is, and you are feeling this tap on your shoulder like God is saying, hey, it's time for business, okay? If that is you, I want to encourage you. Go for it. Go for it. Me and my wife, we've gone through this process, this journey, and I will tell you this, we are more blessed now than we've ever been before. Not just in money, but in the ability to do more ministry than we've ever been able to do ever before. Why? Because now that we understand how resources work, we're not just waiting for someone to give a handout. Nothing wrong with an offering, but the offering is the faith of a priest, right? And it's like, well, the only way we live is by offerings. But the faith of a king or queen is to understand how to create wealth. Like Deuteronomy 8:18 says, it's not just like, I hope someone gives me an offering. Nothing wrong with that. For a priest only, okay? But for a priest and a king, we should, we should understand both very well, okay? Not just how to receive income, but how to create income, how to create wealth, the power to get wealth. That's what Deuteronomy 8:18 says. So that God will establish his covenant with us. That's my friend. That is what I believe God is calling some of us to right now, in this hour. So here's what I want to encourage you with, okay? If you've made it this far into.

Now back to the training. I know it feels weird. It feels big. It feels scary. All I've ever done is work, the work of the ministry. If you're watching and you're this far into the video, that's probably you. If that is you, I want to encourage you. Reach out to me, okay? Reach out to me. I want to help you. I've walked this walk. I've walked this journey. I am obviously me and my family and my wife, my kids, we're obviously still in love with Jesus. We're more in love with Jesus. We love God more today than we ever have before. But I will tell you this. Learning the process of what it means to be a king or a queen, not just a priest only, it has brought a richness, a blessing, just an encouragement to our lives in ways that we could have never imagined. And not just because we have more money now, but because we have more wisdom, more understanding, more. More insight, more knowledge. Because we're able to give more, because we're able to be more generous, because we're able to have more options. Guys, I'm telling you, if God is tapping you on the shoulder in this season and you feel like this is for you, reach out to us, man. I would love to help serve you along your journey as well and kind of help you navigate some of those landmines that maybe you're like, well, what about this? Or what are the people gonna think? Or what are my church members gonna think or what are my followers gonna think? They know me as a missionary or a worshiper or this or that, right? I've been there, I've done that. I'd be honored to help you guys. And really the biggest, the biggest thing with this video, it's not scripted or anything. It's just straight from the heart. I sincerely wanted to just give an encouraging word to you. Whether you reach out to me or not, it's not a big deal to me. But what is a big deal to me is this, is that you follow through with what God is inviting you into because your life will be enriched if God is calling you not just to be a priest only, but to be a priest and a king. Friend, I'm telling you, it's time not just for altars, it's time for altars and cities to be built together. And I believe that you my friend, are one of those people whose God is calling to do that and to establish that in this next season. Thank you so much for watching like and subscribe if you want to continue to see more trainings like this from me. Thank you guys so much. We'll see you in the next video.
