Why God's People Are Broke!

Rick Pino argues Christians stay poor because they believe money is evil, when the Bible actually calls gold good and promises wealth to the wise. He's spent 20 years in ministry across 79 nations and says the real problem is misreading 'the love of money is the root of all evil' as a reason to reject wealth itself.

Guys, here's the thing. Only broke people will tell you that money is evil or money is bad, or if you have too much money, you're greedy. But guys, the punchline is this. Broke people don't build schools. Broke people don't build orphanages. Broke people don't build hospitals. Broke people don't fund the kingdom for the advancement of God's glory. Broke people can't do that because they don't got no money, man. Welcome back, everybody. In today's video, we're going to be talking about why it seems like God's people struggle financially quite a bit and what's wrong with this picture here and why in the world are God's people struggling financially? But why does it seem like wicked or evil people are flourishing financially? Something's wrong here. We're going to be talking about it all today in this video. Before we jump in, make sure to like and subscribe. Hit the bell, guys. Let's jump right on in. Okay. It's my belief. After over 20 years in full time ministry, my wife and I have been all over the globe, 79 nations. I've been in a lot of contexts with a lot of different versions of the body of Christ, right? And obviously in that time I've seen a lot when it has to come to money, the subject of money. And guys, here's my conviction. I believe that the reason why so many of God's people stay broke or stay struggling financially is because so many of them have conflicting internal beliefs around the subject of money. For instance, I'm sure each and every one of us have been in situations. Maybe you're going to church, right? And out of this side of the preacher's mouth, he's saying money's evil. And you know, if you have too much money, you're greedy and money's wicked and you know, beware, right? And then out of this side of his mouth, he's also saying, and by the way, guys, you know, we're going to pass the offering bucket and please make sure to give generously because we want to build our buildings, go on our missions trips and build our orphanages. Like, which one is it, right? Is money bad or is money good? And I want to submit to you right off the bat as we jump into this video, it is my conviction that not only is money not neutral, not only is money not evil, but I believe that money is good. And why do I believe that? Because the Bible says so. In fact, in Genesis chapter two, the Bible says that God planted a garden and the Bible says, in that land there was gold. And here's what it says, the gold was good. Now let me submit something to you, okay? We're only in Genesis chapter two, and there's only two people on the planet this far, right? There's no need for commerce. There's no need to buy or sell anything. These two people are a husband and wife. So obviously they're not going to buy and sell between each other. So why in the world, number one, would God put gold in the earth and then call it good? And then, number two, why in the world would he tell us about it in Genesis chapter two, Right in the beginning. And here's a little bit more context for you, okay? So up until this point, God had called seven different things good. He called his creation good. He called, you know, the light was good. And, you know, all the stuff that he created was good. Well, the eighth thing that he called good was gold. Go back and check it out. It's absolutely crazy to me that so many believers, so many Christians are like, money's wicked. But then God said, no, it's not. Money is good, right? And so why in the world did God put gold in the earth right from the get go, even when there was no need for commerce, even when there was no need for anyone to buy or sell anything? It's my conviction. I believe it's because God was trying to show us. My people are called to the place of abundance. My people are called to flourish. Like, think about it, guys, universally, even, even for history past, the main thing that signified money is and was gold, right? So God is saying, guys, there was gold in the land and the gold was good. Why would God call money or gold good by. But we think that money is evil. Broke people can't do that because. Because they don't got no money, man. That scripture that says the love of money is the root of all evil. It doesn't mean what you think it means. That scripture literally means this. If people love money enough, they will do all kinds of evil. Money is not the most important thing in the world. It's really not. But it's one of the most important things in the world. Here's why, right? I meet so many believers, I meet so many Christians who talk this talk like money's wicked. And you remember it's really hard for a rich man to get through the eye of the needle. Like they're always throwing out these scriptures. They're the same people who are going to a job working 40 to 50 hours per week every single week, Monday, sometimes through Friday or Saturday, right? And then they're doing this for 40 years. Like people are giving the majority of their life to go make money. So answer me this question. If money's not that important and you, you know, we're not about the money, but yet you're giving the majority of your life to go make some money. What's going on here? That's what I'm saying. Even at the beginning of this video here, too many people have conflicting internal beliefs around money, right? And here's the thing, guys, if you think that money is evil, God is never going to entrust a lot of it to you, period. If you think that money's evil, if you think that money's wicked, if you think that having too much money or a lot of money makes you greedy, then God is not going to entrust a lot of money to you. You've got to start getting your mindset about money, right? You know, in my house, my wife and I, we talk about money all the time. It's not the only thing we talk about, but we talk about it a lot. And one of the reasons for that is because I grew up in a household, my parents didn't talk about money a lot. And just like most of you almost grew up with this idea like, how does money work? I don't know. No one talked about it because no one knew. So in our household, we talk about money. I show my kids my bank accounts, I show my kids my investments, I show my kids whenever we landed a big deal. And I want them to get familiarized with money and understand money is not evil. Money is simply a tool. Money just amplifies who you are. If you're a wonderful, generous hearted person, then you're going to be more of that with money. If you're a greedy, wicked, terrible person, you're going to be more of that with more money. That's how money works. And guys, here's the punchline. Money comes frequently. It comes easily and it comes abundantly to those who believe that God has called them to be stewards on this planet. To be the head and not the tail, to be above and not beneath. To be blessed in the city, blessed in the field, blessed when they come, blessed when they go. Right? Deuteronomy 28. That's where all of that comes from. I mean, guys, what's really going on with the narrative of money? Is it bad or does God want us to be blessed? Which one? Is money wicked? Or does God actually want his people to prosper? Right, which one is it? We've got to get a correct mindset around the subject of money, especially in the body of Christ, if we are actually going to go out there and further the kingdom the way that I know that, that we have been called to further the kingdom. Guys, let me submit an idea to you. I believe that Christians who believe that poverty somehow gets you closer to God or makes you closer to God. I believe that those Christians are actively abandoning the responsibility that God wants you to be a good steward on this planet. Proverbs chapter 21, verse 20 says this. The wise have wealth and luxury. Wait, wait, wait, wait. Luxury? Yes. This is the Bible, guys, Again, going back to conflicting internal beliefs about money. I think if you walked up to any believer and said, hey, do you believe that God wants you to have wisdom? Then most believers are going to say, yeah, I believe that God wants me to have wisdom. But guess what? The Bible also says wisdom brings prosperity, wisdom brings abundance, wisdom brings wealth. And wisdom brings enduring wealth is literally what the Bible says. You know what enduring wealth is? It's wealth that lasts for generations. That's what comes with wisdom. So do you believe God wants you to have wisdom but not a lot of money? Those two things conflict with each other. Guys, we've got to start thinking differently around the subject of money. Because I believe that we're living in an hour right now as believers, as sons and daughters of God. I believe that God wants us to be entrusted with bigger and more incredible measures of finances and money. But it's not going to happen if you stay religious about the subject of money, if you stay poverty. Mindset, lack mindset around the subject of money. Okay? God wants to expand our mindset. He wants to entrust us with resources and abundance so that we can be the head and not the tail, so that we can be good stewards. Let me leave you with this thought today, okay? If you were the enemy, right? Would you want your people to have money or God's people to have money? Hmm? Obviously, you don't want God's people to have money if you're the enemy. So guess what you're going to do. One of the easiest strategies you can do. If you're the enemy and you don't want God's people to have money, you are going to sow seeds, little baby tiny lies to get God's people thinking incorrectly about money, Right? Just like the enemy did in the garden in the beginning. Did God really say that you can't eat from. No. The enemy's always trying to twist words. Words like, the love of money is the root of all evil. The enemy's going to come in and say, yeah, yeah, money's evil. Yeah, money's really wicked. Right? And so now we have a whole entire culture inside the body of Christ where people believe that money is evil. Guys, money is not evil. Genesis chapter 2 says God called the gold good. Listen, I believe that we're in an hour where God wants to entrust more and more to you, but you got to get your mindset right. You got to get your conflicting internal beliefs correct around the subject of money. Okay? Don't be a broke Christian, guys. Go for it. Believe what God says in his word, and you two can begin to step into abundance and step into overflow. Step into prosperity. And I'm standing with you for it. Okay, thank you so much for joining me for today's video. Let me know in the comments what you think about all this. Good, bad, and ugly. I'd like to hear all of it.
