Attitude Check Part 2

Rick Torrison on why attitude matters more than talent. Zig Ziglar said attitude, not aptitude, determines altitude. A positive attitude means saying I can, turning problems into opportunities, and spreading to everyone around you.

Welcome back to part two of Attitude Check. Today's timeout for leadership. It's all about attitude. Now, there's two kinds of attitudes. There's a bad attitude and a good attitude. A positive attitude and a negative attitude. Bad attitudes, they lead to bad actions. Good attitudes, they lead to good actions. Hey, if you want to change your attitude, you really need to do two things. The first thing is this. You need to change your perspective. We become what we behold. What do I mean by that? We become like that which we surround ourselves with. The people, the energy, the atmosphere, the environment. Change your perspective, you'll change your attitude. The second thing that impacts our attitude is the people. You may need to change your people. Someone once said that we are most like the five people that we surround ourselves with. I don't know if that's true or not, but if it is, you need to do a self assessment. What is the attitude of the people that you spend most of your time with? If it's not an attitude that's building you up and making you stronger, then you might want to change the people that you're surrounding yourself with. I love this quote by Zig Ziglar. Zig Ziglar said that it's your attitude more than your aptitude, that determines your altitude. Let me say that again. It's your attitude, not your aptitude, your ability that determines your altitude, which means your ability to be successful, how far you can go, how much you can achieve. Attitude plays such a critical role in our success. Our success has everything to do with what we believe birthed from what we think about ourselves and what we think about our capacities and our capabilities. This is one of my favorite quotes. If you think you can or think you can't, you're right. Or if you believe you can or believe you can't, you're right. What's that saying? It's saying our attitude, our belief system impacts our attitudes, which impacts our ability to be successful, to accomplish the the objectives that are in front of us. Beliefs, attitude, they're intricately tied together. And let me share with you three ways that a positive attitude can impact your life and your success. The first thing about a positive attitude is that it says I can, not I can't or I hope to, but I can. It's a positive declaration of what I will do and am doing. I can. The second thing a positive attitude does, it turns problems into opportunities. People with positive attitudes don't see the problems as negatives to slow them down. They see problems as opportunities to grow, to learn and to move forward. The last thing is attitudes are contagious. You all know this because we've been around people who have a positive attitude, and immediately when we're around them, our energy and our attitude picks up. The question becomes, is your attitude worth catching? So remember, a positive attitude says, I can turns problems into opportunities and is definitely contagious. Well, my friends, thanks for being a part of Time out for Leadership and helping us grow a transformational leadership community. As always, I'm Rick Torresen and I believe that your best it's yet to come.
