In this polemical monologue, Robert Basil Hersov delivers a systematic audit of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s tenure, contrasting the numerous promises made in State of the Nation Addresses and policy statements with the observable outcomes up to late 2024. Hersov walks through ten policy domains—economic growth and jobs, the energy crisis and Eskom unbundling, digital TV migration, major infrastructure projects (Msikaba and Mthentu) and the water agency, anti‑corruption and governance reforms, housing and land‑title backlogs, transport and logistics, the National Health Insurance (NHI) plan, red‑tape reduction and the business environment, and the stalled social compact. For each domain he lists the specific promise (often with quantitative targets or deadlines), the factual reality (including unemployment rates, load‑shedding frequency, delayed project dates, missing legislation, and continued corruption), and delivers a terse verdict that frames the promise as a lie. The overall narrative concludes that Ramaphosa’s presidency is defined by “fantasy, failure and zero accountability,” urging South Africans to demand results rather than rehearsed speeches.

Hi, Rob Hersov. I want to talk to you today about Cyril Ramaphosa's promises and lies, an exposé of failure, fantasy, and zero accountability under Cyril. Welcome to The Truth Report. Today we're pulling no punches, and this episode's called Cyril's Promises and Lies, a brutal audit of President Cyril Ramaphosa's reign of broken promises, fantasy targets, and zero accountability. He said, "Watch this space." Well, we did, and all we've seen is failure dressed up in polished speeches. So let's look at useless Cyril's record. We'll do it in sections. 1. Economic growth, jobs. What are the promises that Cyril made? Economic growth above 3% in SONA 2025. Presidential employment stimulus to create meaningful work, and a R20 billion transformation fund for black-owned businesses, plus a commitment to inclusive growth. The reality? 32% unemployment as of Q4 2024, the worst globally. Growth has been flat or negative during most of his tenure, and employment rate is stuck at 1994 levels. Around 42%. The stimulus programs had minimal short-term impact and were hugely expensive. And on the transformation fund, it's not materialized. Or is that what the gangster Mashatile is threatening? Verdict: jobs talk, no jobs walk. Second area: energy crisis. What are Cyril's Eskom promises? Been a few. He'd unbundle Eskom by December 2022. He'd end load shedding and more than 300 days without load shedding in SONA 2025, plus a complete energy system overhaul. And what's the reality? Okay. Only the transmission sector of Eskom has been separated. The generation and distribution remain unreformed. Load shedding crippled South Africa in 2022 to 2023. Announced in 2019, still incomplete 5 years later. And energy transformation is incomplete. Renewables have stalled. Probably a good thing because they're very expensive. And the verdict? Eskom's still burning, promises aren't. Cyril is the president who let the lights go out. Now let's look at digital migration technology. What are the promises from Cyril? Full digital TV migration by 2022. And then 2023, national digital system in summer 2025. Reality: analog television switch-off was delayed to December 2024 and still hasn't happened. South Africa is years behind global standards and the digital infrastructure rollout severely delayed. Cyril verdict: missed deadlines, global embarrassment. Now let's look at his infrastructure lies and promises. Msikaba, Mthentu bridges were to be completed by 2023. Almost a billion rand investment in infrastructure over 3 years and establishing a national water infrastructure agency. Big promises here. Reality: Msikaba was delayed to April 2025 and stalled. Mthentu suspended indefinitely due to contractor exits and protests. The water agency is not operational and most projects are suffering delays, corruption, and budget blowouts. Cyril, your verdict? Concrete promises, paper delivery. Let's look at my favorite one though, corruption and governance, or lack of. Cyril's promises: 1. A new dawn of clean governance. 2. Resourced investigating directorate. 3, whistleblower protection bill, and 4, digital forensics lab. 5, and here we go, that spineless Cyril would actually do something about the Zondo report. The reality: 1, no high-profile arrests for state capture. 2, the whistleblower framework still not passed. 3, Farmgate scandal, remember that? No prosecutions, No transparency. According to the DA, South Africa is now more corrupt than under Zuma. Can you imagine that? Well done, Cyril. And the verdict? Same looters, safer seats. What about Palapala, Cyril? Hiding that one, are you? Let's look at housing and urban development. Cyril's promises: 300,000 serviced stands, housing closer to work, clear title deed backlog. Big promises. Reality? Housing delivery is well below targets. Title deeds still massively backlogged. And 3, spatial inequality is basically unchanged. Verdict? Empty plots, empty promises. Cyril's playbook. And what about transport and logistics? Okay, Cyril's promises. Public-private partnerships for ports. Revive freight rail and passenger corridors. And the reality? No port partnerships concluded in 2023. Durban and Nkura still bottlenecked, and the private sector kept away by bureaucracy and risk. Verdict? Trains stuck. Only Cyril's lies move fast. And in healthcare with the NHI, the promises, Cyril, He would implement NHI. He would modernise public health facilities. Reality? NHI is still a theory, and a dangerous one in my view. The sooner we kill that, the better. Hospitals are underfunded and collapsing, and healthcare inequality is entrenched. Verdict? No health, no care. Well done, Cyril. And let's look at red tape and the business environment. Okay, what were Cyril's promises? He would set up a red tape reduction team. He would create a 30-day payment commitment. And the reality of it all? Well, guess what? Permits, licenses, and tenders are still nightmarish, and suppliers wait months or even years for payments. And SMMEs are choked out before they start. The verdict: bureaucracy wins, business loses. And on the social compact that never was. Cyril, what were your promises? A 100-day delivery of a new social compact. That was in the 2022 SONA. And the reality? Zero delivery after 2 years. Redrafted 11 times. Never agreed. And nedlak? Deadlocked. Verdict? No plan, no pact, no partnership. So what's the summary? Cyril Ramaphosa promises a new dawn. What do we get? Darkness, delay, denial. He makes the promise, we suffer the cost. No delivery, no resignations, no accountability. Cyril's promises and lies is not just my podcast title. It's the summary of his presidency. South Africa deserves results, not rehearsed speeches. I'm sick of Cyril, and I'm sure you are too.
