ROB HERSOV: ANC Created a Lost Generation on Purpose

Robert Hersov argues the ANC deliberately destroyed South Africa's education system to create a dependent population. He cites the 2024 PIRLS study: 81% of Grade 4 learners cannot read for meaning, the worst globally. He blames SADTU, the teachers' union, for protecting weak teachers and blocking reforms, and points to higher reading scores in the DA-governed Western Cape as proof that change is possible.

I'm going to tell you about the education heist, the fact that the ANC has stolen your children's future. I mean, you've been told the ANC's greatest sin was state capture, but you're wrong. You think it's Eskom? You're also wrong. You think it's the NHI? Again, wrong. The ANC's greatest, most evil and most unforgivable crime is what they have done and are doing to our children. They're not just failing to educate them, they're deliberately trapping them in a cycle of poverty and ignorance. Your children. This is the real estate capture. It's the capture of your child's mind, and it's the theft of your family's future. This is the national emergency, and these aren't opinions, it's an indictment. Our children cannot read. The latest PIRLS study is a national disgrace. 81%, 81% of South African grade 4 learners cannot read for meaning. Not in English, not in any language, and we are dead last in the world. A massive education budget, And those are the results. So the system is broken. It's not an accident, actually. Over 80% of our public schools are classified as dysfunctional. They lack clean water, proper toilets, libraries, and safe classrooms. And the real enemy— who runs this failed system? Not the principals, not the parents, It's run by a communist trade union, SADTU. They are a captured organisation. They protect weak teachers, they sell principal posts, and they fight every single reform like accountability and performance management that would actually help your children. And what's the DA difference? This is Not an unsolvable problem. It's a problem of political will. In the DA-run Western Cape, the reading scores are significantly higher than any other province. Why are you surprised? They have a plan. They are fighting SADTU, the union. They believe in competence, not cadres. And here is the brutal, un-PC truth: the ANC, through its own incompetence and its toxic alliance with the communist trade unions, has done what the architects of apartheid dreamed of doing. They've created a lost generation. The ANC has done this. They've produced a workforce that cannot read, cannot count, and cannot compete. Why? Why have the ANC done this? Because an uneducated population is easy to control. An uneducated population depends on the ANC state. It depends on the R350 grant. They're not failing. The system is working as designed by the ANC. It's designed to destroy merit, crush aspiration, and keep you dependent on the same party that is stealing your future. This isn't a policy debate. This is a war for your children's lives. A war. You cannot build an economy on an illiterate population, which is what we have. You cannot have a new dawn when 81% of your 10-year-olds are in the dark or can't do homework at night. So here's what we have to do. We have to break the unions. SADTU's monopoly must be broken. We must demand performance contracts for all teachers and principals. If you can't teach, you get fired. And we've got to back the fixers. We've got to support the DA and any other organizations that are fighting this in court and on the ground. You've got to start voting for your child. Stop voting for a liberation movement. It's dead. It's done. Start voting for the only party that can give your child a chance to read, a chance to get a job, and a chance to have a future. If you vote ANC, you're voting to ensure your own children will be poor, unemployed, and dependent forever. Let's fire them. Let's futsack ANC. Let's save our children.
