Robert Basil Hersov argues South Africa's justice system has been captured by organised crime networks, with 5,578 women and 1,600 children killed in the year to March 2024. He calls for witness protection programmes, a judge-led task force to dismantle state syndicates, and monthly public reporting of arrests and convictions.

South Africa's justice system is not just slow, it's being outgunned. We rank 7th worst in the world for organised criminality. That's not just an insult, that is the index. And when a provincial police chief accused the Minister of Police of interference, the President put the Minister on leave and set up a judge-led commission to probe criminal capture in law enforcement. That is how deep the rot runs in South Africa, thanks to the ANC. Murder has eased in recent quarters, but the violence remains extreme for all people. In the year to March 2024, 5,578 women and 1,600 children were killed, and this is a nation in danger. Here's the pattern: ballistic reports go missing, whistleblowers get shot, political syndicates ride in blue lights while detectives beg for paper. This is not a few bad apples. This is criminal governance. So what do responsible leaders do? One, protect witnesses and whistleblowers with budgets, safe houses, and timelines we can audit. 2. Unpack state-embedded syndicates with a dedicated task team that reports to the judge, not to ANC politicians. And 3. Publish arrests and convictions monthly so the public can see progress. We've seen this playbook in other countries. Yes, we have. You claw back the rule of law in court and on the street at the same time. Special units, clean prosecutors, witness protection that actually protects the witnesses and whistleblowers. And this isn't about left or right, it's about criminal or lawful. Choose the law, back competence, vote correct. End the impunity. This is Rob Herzog for Truths Report. Share this, follow Truths Report, and tell us what you think in the comments.
