ROB HERSOV: This Is How Countries Really Collapse | And South Africa Is There

Robert Hersov argues South Africa faces collapse from ANC misgovernance, citing water shortages, blackouts, and broken sewage systems across cities like Johannesburg and Durban. He describes an "inversion matrix" where the ANC relabels failure as transformation to silence criticism. Hersov calls for voting the ANC out in 2026 municipal elections before the damage becomes irreversible.

2026, the last election before the lights really go out. South Africans seem to be waiting for 2029 to get rid of the ANC. They're waiting for a miracle, a saviour, a new face, a new party, a new messiah to descend from the clouds and fix what's broken. And a lot is broken. But that thinking is fatal because by 2029, large parts of this country will be unsalvageable. They'll have fallen apart. Not struggling, not wounded, not under pressure. Dead. Basta. Over. We'll have towns with no water, cities with permanent blackouts, municipalities so destroyed that won't be able to collect rates, maintain roads, or keep sewage out of the rivers. And once that line is crossed, there isn't a recovery, only abandonment. And it's happening already in South Africa.
Truth Report has launched a Backabuddy initiative called Hold the Line for Waris. Creators hold up the world in their voices and their time and their energy. But when life hits hard, creators and their families need holding too. This campaign is specifically to support the 3 sons of Warwick "DJ" Waters-Stock, and it's been launched with the full support and consent of the Stock family as the official fundraiser. So if you can donate, thank you. If you can't, that's okay too. Just sharing the campaign helps a lot. This is people helping people, creators supporting creators, the community showing up for the community.
And that's why the real election is not 2029. It's this year. It's 2026. It's the municipal elections that no one's talking about yet. The elections the ANC desperately hopes you ignore. And the election that will decide Whether South Africa still functions at the most basic level, the level where you live. Because when municipalities collapse, countries collapse from the bottom up. National government can shout slogans, ministers fly business class, and parliament debates ideology. But when your town taps run dry and your lights stay off, that's not national government. That's local government. That's your street, your block, your town. And this is not a future warning. This is a present reality. And just look around you. Look around. Look at Soweto. Johannesburg, Grahamstown, Welkom, Durban, Mthatha. We have sewage flowing into rivers. We have potholes swallowing cars. And we have billing systems so broken, people are charged for water they've never received. This has happened to all of you. We've got infrastructure now older than democracy that has never been maintained. Police stations that don't have fuel, fire departments without water pressure. And this isn't bad luck. This isn't legacy issues. And this isn't apartheid's fault in 2026. This is deliberate ANC misgovernance. Protected by nonsense ANC ideology. And yet the same faces return. The same excuses repeat. And the same slogans are recycled. The same empty promises are made. And every 5 years, every 5 years, millions of people vote the same way. The gogos keep voting ANC. Not because things are working, because they're afraid of thinking differently. I want to talk about something called the inversion matrix. So stick with me here and let me try and explain the psychological scam that keeps this dysfunctional system alive. We can call it the inversion matrix. And in this matrix, competence is labeled as elitism. Failure is rebranded as transformation. And corruption is excused as history. What about accountability? Accountability is framed as oppression. You want to demand clean audits? You're anti-transformation. You want to demand working infrastructure? You're privileged. What about demanding consequences for corruption? What about that? You're attacking the struggle. This isn't democracy. It's psychological hostage-taking. And you are the hostage. Voters are guilted into silence. They're told that expecting basic services is betrayal, and they're told that voting differently is treason against history. Meanwhile, the political elite continue to loot with impunity. The ANC continue to loot. And the poor? The poor are left with broken toilets, dark streets, and poisoned water. Why doesn't the ANC want you looking at what's coming in 2026, at the municipals? Because municipal elections are measurable. At the national level, the government national level, everything is abstract. Blame can be shifted, responsibility can be blurred, and failures can be explained away. That's at the national level. But at the municipal level, the local level, at the street level, there's nowhere for the ANC to hide. Either the lights work or they don't. And you can see that. It's palpable. The water runs or it doesn't. And the books balance or they don't. It's pretty clear what's going on at the municipal level. Crime drops or it gets worse. And you can't sing struggle songs to a sewage spill. You can't blame apartheid for a burst pipe, particularly one that wasn't maintained. And you can't shout "transformación" at a transformer that exploded 5 years ago. That's why the ANC wants you distracted. They want you looking the other way. They're going to distract you with race debates, historical guilt. They're going to distract you with international posturing, things going on outside your area of focus. And they're going to distract you by national theatre. Anything, as long as you don't look at the collapsed municipalities the ANC runs. Or misruns. So this is what ideology kind of over management looks like. Ideology over management. And you don't need a PhD to run a municipality. What do you need? You need competence. You need people that actually know how to do things like the DA. You need the discipline, you need basic maths, and you need the willingness to fire people who don't do their jobs. But ideology replaced management, ANC-catered deployment replaced merit, and ANC loyalty replaced skill. And now you have municipalities being run by people who can't even read financial statements, but they can quote struggle credentials and struggle slogans fluently. And this is very simply why roads collapse, Why water systems fail. And this is why Eskom municipal debt has become unpayable. And this is why emergency services arrive too late or not at all. It isn't a mystery. There's no mystery to this. It's a system working exactly as the ANC designed. They designed the failure. They broke the system so they can keep stealing. And the myth of the South African national saviour— someone's coming to save us— it's a myth. There is no national rescue coming. There's no white knight. There's no strongman. There's no magical president going to appear out of the mist. And there's no election miracle. A country with broken municipalities cannot be fixed from the top. It must be rebuilt by the right people, by the competent people from the ground up. Functional municipalities, ones that work, create jobs, investment, safety, security, dignity, and property value. Look at the Western Cape. Well managed, and hope. What do failed municipalities create? Think ANC, failed municipalities. Dependency, crime, capital flight, smart and talented people leaving, emigration, and ultimately collapse. So there's no middle ground here. There's no third option. You know, once municipalities fully fail, once they really fall apart, businesses leave, professionals leave, taxpayers leave. And what's left? What's left? A shrinking base supporting an expanding welfare state. Failure. Until the system implodes. And imploding it is. So this really is the last off-ramp. 2026, the municipal elections, is not just another election. It's the final off-ramp before irreversible decline takes place. And if voters in South Africa choose identity over outcomes in 2026. What are they choosing? They're choosing collapse. And no speech is going to save that, no apology is going to reverse it, and no policy document will resurrect dead infrastructure. This election coming up, this municipal election, is not about loyalty. It's not about struggle songs. It's not about who your parents voted for. It's not about who the gogos still vote for. It's about governance versus decay. So here's my final warning. If you outsource your thinking this year in 2026, you outsource your future. You've got to stop voting out of fear. You've got to stop voting out of guilt. You've got to stop voting emotionally. You've got to start voting like a shareholder, demanding returns on investment. Because once municipalities completely fail in our country, there is no national bailout plan. There are only private generators, private boreholes, private security if you can afford it, and eventually exit visas. 2026 is not a rehearsal. It's not a symbolic And it's not an optional. It is the real test. Think, choose, act. Or don't complain when the system collapses. Exactly as it was designed to by the ANC. And yes, it is time to footsack the useless, corrupt ANC out of local government before they finish destroying what's left of this magnificent country. Footsack ANC. And we need everyone to register to vote. You need to register to vote, and you need to get out and vote and get rid of the ANC once and for all.
