Five Signs You’re Immature with Money
21 Nov 2025 · 4 min
Rob Moore breaks down five ways you're probably bad with money: impulse buying, emotional spending, buying to impress people, confusing saving with investing, and treating crypto like a bet. He argues you should invest rather than save and stop gambling on speculation.

Five signs you're still immature with money and why you're probably broke. The fifth is the most brutal and addictive. And it's the ways that the biggest companies in the world have control over you. Number one, you can never wait to buy something. You fall for the discounts. You have fomo, you need to get it now. It's only children who have zero discipline and and the inability to delay gratification. Don't buy it unless you can afford it. Go away and do some price comparison or wait a week and see if you actually really did want it. My mates always used to take the piss out of me. I used to buy a lot of clothes I couldn't afford on credit cards to make myself feel better about myself instead of actually looking inside and getting some therapy. I'd earn £200 a week and spend £300 a week on clothes. And when my mates would ask me, how much was your new Lacoste shirt? I'd always say, well, it's worth 150, but I got it for 80. They would take the piss out of me and I didn't know why. I thought I'd saved 70 quid. They realized I'd wasted 80 quid. Whenever a sale said closing down or a website said only one left, I would fall for it every time. Even though now I can afford to buy the clothes shop that I used to buy the clothes in. When I'm faced with any purchase, small or large, I always think, will I actually use this? Will I get long term benefit from this? Is this something I'm going to like and use in 5 or 10 years? Does this fit perfectly? Is this exactly what I need? Did I come to the shops or go online to actually buy this thing? Or have I got distracted and could I wait for it to appear in the sale later? Number two, you buy when you're emotional. When you're elated, you buy to celebrate. When you're depressed, you buy to alleviate the pain. Gambling firms and pharmaceutical companies know how to play on your emotions. When you're elated, high or depressed, low, you are the most emotional and therefore the least logical. You make all your best financial decisions with logic, not with emotion. In fact, when you spend money under volatile emotions, you're spending money to appease the emotion, not because it's the right decision. Broke people stay broke, not because they can't earn any money, but let's say they get a bit of a pay rise or they get a bonus, they go out and celebrate, they spend it all in one weekend or they feel down, they go to the doctors, they get prescribed drugs and they pay for medicine and alcohol and gambling to try and make themselves feel better. Number three, you buy things to impress people. Never buy shit you do not really need to impress people you do not really like. I've committed to buying no more supercars. I have seven supercars I do not need any more. Now I'll be honest, I spent a lot of money in my life trying to impress people. Clothes and watches and cars I never used to be able to afford. The great thing about becoming rich is that the only person you really need to impress is yourself. And as you make money you feel good about yourself, your self worth goes up. So the irony is now I have a lot more money. I have much less need to please others. I wear McQueen because I love McQueen. Most people don't even know who McQueen is. I don't really have logos written on any of my clothes. I buy watches that I like that most people don't recognize. And maybe I still do buy cars because I'd like a larger penis. I do have seven supercars but they are all paid for by assets. Number four. You think that saving money makes you rich. Only a child believes that saving money makes you rich. The banks are trying to convince you that saving money makes you rich and.

And that's because they get rich off of your savings. In the last four years inflation has been up to 10 times more than interest. Therefore saving money is losing you 10% or more per year and you're taking the risk and the banks are profiting on your money. So a child believes that saving makes money. An adult knows that investing makes money. The first rule of investing is you must beat inflation and saving money in the banks always loses to inflation. And number five, the brutal one that the huge firms control you with is gambling. I'm sorry to say this, but it's childish to gamble. Why would you play a game with your money that you have virtually zero percent chance of winning? Gambling to feel better is appeasing childish emotions. Stop betting, stop spending on the lottery and stop making these massive corporations billions of pounds. The only thing I bet on is myself. And one more thing. Investing in crypto or other assets you know nothing about is basically gambling. I think ads for gambling are disgusting. I think any influencer who takes sponsorship from gambling firms should be sued. It is impossible to gamble responsibly. Virtually no one on this planet ever made money out of gambling. And imagine if the billions that were spent on gambling ads were spent on teaching us to manage our money, to invest our money, to grow our wealth, to protect our wealth. Imagine how different the world would be. I've interviewed people on my show Disruptors who said that gambling was a worse addiction than drugs. It is the worst addiction. So if there's one favor you can do for yourself and the people you care about, only bet on yourself. If you found this useful, make sure you follow this channel, because I've got 17 years worth of content related to money. They say time is money. It is not Time is energy. It was Warren Buffett who said, if you can't manage your emotions, don't expect to manage your money. And remember, if you don't risk anything, you risk everything.
