If I Wanted To Make $10,000 As a Student I’d Do This
21 Nov 2025 · 24 min
Rob Moore outlines how students could earn £10,000 a month through side-hustles like web arbitrage, AI services, and local retainers, while minimising study time with AI tools. He argues against university for parental approval alone and recommends investing in gold and pensions to build wealth early.

How does a student get to ten grand a month?
Quit you went to uni, did nothing with your law degree. I went to uni, did nothing with my architecture degree. I'm sure there are many parents around the world that are going to hate me right now. But the first thing I'm going to say is if you want to make ten grand a month as a student, the first thing you have to ask yourself is do you really want to do this degree in this masters? Are you doing this because your parents wanted you to? Because they're living vicariously through you? I've got some Indian friends who had so much pressure from their parents, so much pride and passion that their kids was going to be the first doctor, dentist and lawyer in our immigrant family. And I get that and. But I know that's up some people and they're living their whole life for their parents. I did architecture as a degree because I didn't know what to choose at careers advice and I didn't want anyone to think I was thick. They are not good solid foundations on which to make the decision for three to five to seven to nine years of your life. Because the average amount of debt you'll probably accrue is about 15 grand a year. When you roll things in, imagine if you only earned 15 grand in a year if you started work experience even though that's less than minimum wage. Three years in you've earned 15, earned 15 and 15 you're plus 45 if you get a shitty work experience job illegally under minimum wage. But a student you're -15, -30, -45. So you're the difference of 90 grand over three years between getting a shit job or getting a degree. So you absolutely what your parents say, what society thinks that you're the only child in your whole generational family of a thousand years that's going to get a degree. Because I was the first in my whole family to get a degree and it was a big thing except it was a shit thing because I didn't want to do it. I fucking hated it. Do you know, I knew after the first week I went, I did freshers week, I got hammered. I came in for the first day, I knew I didn't want to do it and I stuck at it for three years because I was a stubborn twat.
He's just hungover, he's having a bad day.
A three year. So I racked up most of my 50 grands worth of debt which I racked up and I was in that debt at 26 was from university. So the only reason you should go to university or college is to study the thing you really want to do because you want to do it and you believe you can make a good career out of it. That's the only reason. And the amount of degrees that you can get now where that's a legitimate thing are less and less and less. And the amount that you can self teach now is more and more and more. Okay, you can't now really self teach to be a, a surgeon, so lawyer, you know, you trained for that. You could probably self teach that a bit more than you used to be able to with AI especially. But I, I hold my hands up. There are certain things you can't and you shouldn't self teach where you know where there's a risk. But those few things aside, you can learn quicker at home for less while you earn because at least learn while you earn or at least earn while you learn. So most people, they come out of college, that's when they stop learning and they're earning a low amount of money but they're not learning at college. You're learning but you're not earning. But if you go and work for an entrepreneur then you're learning and earning if you go and start your own business, whether it's a side hustle because you know, maybe we'll still have some people watching this and maybe we'll talk about some ways they can make money while still being a student. But I just thought this was really important to say because the parents are not going to say it. The problem with your parents is they love you and so that clouds their judgment because you know, if you really love someone, you want to protect them. So that means oh don't start that business or go go to degrees so you college so you can get a good job. Oh don't do this or don't take that risk. So too much love can be protection. If you want to make real money, you got to take risk. Risk rewarder linked.
I feel like parents say I always want the best for you and what they actually mean is I don't want the worst for you.
Yes, yes. And that's really different.
Massively. It's basically also from a selfish point of view is like well if you fuck it all up and you're in loads of debt, I don't want to have to look after you because you're now 18, 19, 20. So so go to you now 35. So yes, I get the fuck out my house. Yeah, so it's you know, Go to universe to get a good job and do well enough that you're not a burden and I don't have to worry about you is really what people mean.
Yeah.
Whereas if you wanted the best, I guess, yeah. People would probably be more inclined to go, well, sack that off and take the risk. Take the risk, See what happens.
Yeah.
Saying that.
Yeah.
If somebody is already at university, they're already enrolled, or they, they're not going to take the pressure from their parents and drop out. What are some of your favorite side hustles for somebody who's studying?
Okay.
To start making some money.
Get there in a moment. But here's what I do. And like you will get punished for this in school, so be careful. I'm going to disclaim my words, but I would be looking to do the minimum viable amount required to get the minimum viable degree I need. And I'd be trying to use as much AI or other people as possible to get my degree. So, you know, it. Could I do five hours a week and get a two? Two or two one. It depends. You do a bit of research, you look what you need. And how could I maximize using AI without basically being called a cheat? Now school will call you a cheat for copying other people or using AI, but that's how you win in business in the real world. So we need to unlearn some we learned in school. Like at school, if you copy the kid in the class who's best at the subject, you'll get a fail. You might even get expelled. In real life, if you find the person who's best in business and copy him, you get rich. And they might even let you. And you might even go and be able to work for them for a bit. You might be able to come their business partner. So again, I like this. Now the parents hate me. Now the colleges hate me. I'm telling what I believe you asked me. You're not asking everyone else. So I want to work out my absolute minimum, maximum hours I can put in that I minimize. So then I freed up all this time. So I reckon I don't know this for sure, but you might be able to get a degree doing five to seven hours a week. If you figure out who all the best students are in the different topics and do them a deal and copy them or get their help and use AI. And you find a way to use AI without it getting. Because there's AI to track. If you've used AI. My wife's doing a. She's doing an. Basically a kind of like an online degree and that like they're not allowed to, they're allowed to use AI for research, but that's it. And the AI can tell if they're using the AI to write it. So you gotta, you gotta gamify AI. You've got AI AI, but that's step one that I would do so you can maximize the time. I'm very excited to announce a special long term partnership with Direct Bullion. People must ask me hundreds, if not thousands of times where I buy my gold and silver. How to buy gold and silver? You can you buy gold and silver in your pension? Many people know from my content, I'm a huge fan of real money. They call gold God's money. Step two is when I figure that out for myself, I'm gonna, I'm gonna charge you a ground and I'm gonna do it for you, my fellow mates at uni. So if I found a hack, if I could go to you and say I found a way that I'm pretty sure I can get a 2:1 on seven hours a week. Will you pay me a thousand dollars and I'll do the same for you? So this is a bit naughty. Well, it's not naughty, but I would do this because like, do you want to make 10 grand a month or do you want to be 15 grand a year in debt with a degree you're not even going to use? So I'd find some kind of service to sell to my fellow students. Now my business partner did this in the old days. So in the old days when there was basically, I don't even know if they were just using the Internet because What is he, 45? So do you remember? He was. But you remember when you logged in to your Hotmail and you had one email and you even left the sound on ding. It was like that there was. So what he'd do is he'd go and he'd go and get DVDs and he'd rent them to. Before DVD rental was a big thing to his friends. Go out and get, buy him fags and crisps and takeaways and he offer that as a service to them all while they were all getting pissed and he was side hustling before side hustling was a thing and he took his whole student loan and invested it. So you could take your student loan, invest it in Vanguard Life Strategy 100 Equity Accumulation Fund. In fact, let's have a, let's. Can you just have a look on how much, what's the maximum student loan you can get now?
13,000 a year for students living in London for their maintenance loan.
So if you'd have invested 13,000 a year for the last five years into the stock market, this recent budget should warn you that your pension is not safe and secure and they're coming for your inheritance. Do you even know how much is in your pension or where your pension is invested? Add to this the recent inheritance tax grab on your pensions and the risk of a market crash you pay. Probably didn't know this and I didn't until recently, but physical gold can be added to your pension pot gold is inheritance tax free and has grown 700% in the last 20 years. You probably know from my content I'm investing heavily in silver and gold and that's why I've partnered with Direct Bullion. Myself and Nigel Farage are brand ambassadors and direct bullion can help you with gold to protect and grow your pension. I buy my gold and silver from Direct Bullion And I don't earn any money on any purchases of gold, gold or silver if you buy direct from direct bullion. So if you go to robmore.directbullion.com you can get a great price on your silver and gold and you can get the pension gold investing guide completely for free. As you know, I don't do many strategic partnerships and when I do, I do them with people who are credible, who've been doing it a long time, who invested things that I invest into. And gold and silver's going wild. I'm investing heavily in gold and silver. I, I recommend you check out robmore directbullion.com what would it be now roughly, by the way? This just disclaimer, this is not what they teach you in school. This is not financial advice, this is financial experience. It's definitely not financial advice. But you know, if you want to get a different result, you have to put a different input in. Okay, right here Grok's doing its thing. So 13,000 a year of your student loan in the last five years would be 96, 643 pounds. So you basically have 100 grand and so you've probably beaten. I'm not advising to invest your student loan. I'm just saying that's what my business partner did. He went and worked hustling, selling his unimates, all sorts of products that he could, driving around in his 37 pound brown Vauxhall Nova, picking up fags, cigarettes. You know, just have to make these things really clear and so find a service you can sell to your other college students. That's, that's one way invest your student loan, that's another way. Probably the best way though is to start an information business, I would say. So we're in the information age. We were in the industrial age, you know, where manufacturing and the steel industry grew and you know, all these factories and we required all these manual laborers. But the school system's kind of still set up for more kind of labor based jobs jobs, some knowledge based jobs, but most jobs, if you think about it, they're, you're performing a task, it's not really using your mind. So you have way more exponential leverage in leveraging your mind and information because labor is restrictive in how much you can earn. So I'd probably, now, if you had a gun to my head, say to students to sell online information in the form of a mastermind or mentoring or online courses or a membership site and, or I'd probably set up an agency where I'm offering services to help people using AI. I guess you must know smma, a social media agency.
That's what I did at uni.
There you go then. So tell us about it.
Well, I wasn't necessarily all social. It started as a website development agency. Bear in mind, I know nothing about developing a website. So I was in quite an old university town with a lot of independent shops and a lot of. Because it was a uni town and a lot of money was starting to be invested, all the big chains were coming in, restaurants, coffee shops. So I just went door to door selling. You need a website, I can't find you on Google. You need a Facebook page, Instagram page, can't find you. And I, luckily then I wasn't really selling virality or anything like that. I was selling an online shop window, which made it a bit easier to sell. Now I think it's probably a little bit harder. And then when I went back to my dorm, I just went on to fiverr, found somebody in the Philippines, they can build a website. I was like, cool. And I basically pocketed 30 to 40% of the monthly retainer and then they did all the work and I was essentially just a middleman.
So basically you created arbitrage. Yeah, yeah.
And that's because I got really fucked at university because my parents got pretty screwed in the 08 crash and they didn't own a house from the O8 crash up until when I went to university in 2017, I think it was my dad pulled out part of his pension to then put down on that house. But student Finance England took that as, oh, you've earned this amount of money. I then got the minimum student loan and I didn't have wealthy parents either because all of that money had gone straight into a big chunk on the house. So they didn't have the money to fund me to be at university. But also because of this paper exercise, I got next to no loan, like maintenance loan, so I had to work. So I did an arbitrage business and then I run club events. I sold nights out to students.
Well, I probably wouldn't recommend that now because the nightlife in this country is dead now. But. But basically we're saying the similar thing, which is maximize the time while you're at uni that you've got spare instead of going drinking, find a way to generate revenue by running some kind of business. So if you sold ten online AI courses at a thousand dollars each, there's your ten grand. When no one had a website and the Internet blew up, you could Set up an agency or sell people websites and that was a huge thing. Then when no one really knew how to use social media or ads on social media you could have an agency that would do your Facebook ads or your Google Ads for you. You then when you realize you got to be on Tik Tok and Instagram and Facebook and YouTube and shorts, these agencies will do all your short form content for you and cut up your main content into lots of shorts. And now it's AI. And now there's a land grab for being an agency of AI. Now I think a lot of people think oh well, anyone, it's easy to use AI, you just use Grok or chat GPT. It's not at all like most people still don't use it, they don't know how to use it. There's still a land grab, it's still really early. And you know, imagine someone who's 55 who's a bit scared of, you know, using AI because oh, I don't want it to give it my information because they're old fashioned and I don't really know what to do here because anything when you don't know how to do it feels overwhelming. Would they pay a thousand dollars for a good step by step course on, you know, the basics of learning how to use AI? Of course they would, especially if you could help them. If, if you sell courses on how to monetize AI, not just learn AI, they'll pay more for that. So you only need to sell 10 core. There's 8 billion people on in the world. I think 6 billion of them are on the Internet. Anyone can sell 10 AI courses at $1,000 each. There's your 10, 10 grand a month.
As a student, 100%. If you was to go local as well, you could get some local businesses on some sort of retainer to implement some of these things. You know, if you for whatever reason thought oh I can't do a course, which is the better way to do it because there's way more margin in it. But selling a service, the reason I push selling a service to start with is because it's easier to get yeses. I, I went from, or we went from doing a done for you podcast agency to then doing a training because it's actually easier to sell done for you first and you can charge more for it. Yeah. So if you wanted to sell two and two grand a month for a done for you service, you probably could. With AI, you go into a reasonably sized business in your local town. I, I'M at the university. I'm starting this business which went really well for me. When I like a young person saying start your business immediately, you get more people wanting to help you.
Yeah.
Whereas I bet I might be wrong. I bet if you're 45 and you go someone starting a business, you won't get as many handouts as I got.
No, no, that's a good point. Because older entrepreneurs want to pass on their knowledge and help younger people because you see yourself in them, think we're good. Awesome job dial by the way, if people do want to start scale their business. Money School. So for this is good for students because it's only 50 pence a day.
Nice.
So I think you just sacrifice a couple of pints of beer a month. But yeah, there's hundreds of hours of courses, resources and master classes to make manager multiply money on Money School. So we're actually doing a 10 week faster accelerator course for starting any business. Coming soon to Money School, we've got social media online masterclass, how to leverage social media. You know, because I really don't understand why people think business is hard nowadays. Because when I started you had to go to networking events and you had to knock on doors. Maybe you now you just go on social media. Your Instagram is your shop front, your Facebook is the a window into getting millions of customers. So yeah, we've got online social media courses in Money School. So the link is Money School.
Have you got an AI course?
Yes, two AI courses. A more beginners one and a more advanced one. There you go. Here's a great way for a student to make 10 grand a month. Join Money School for 50 pence a day. Go and consume my two AI course courses. Learn it, rewrite it as your own. Changing it 30. If you want to be nice, give me a bit of credit, then go and sell them. Program to Pop. Job done.
Till next time. Boom. All right.
