The Lies of the Cost of Living Crisis
21 Nov 2025 · 11 min
A podcast conversation (Rob Moore with Nigel Farage) arguing that the current "cost of living crisis" is mischaracterised and is primarily a government/central-bank-driven debt crisis. Speakers criticise fiat money, quantitative easing, and fractional-reserve banking; attribute price rises to government debt, mismanagement, monopolies and "greedflation"; and advise financial education, investing in hard assets (gold, silver, real estate) and reducing cash holdings. The episode also includes promotions for Direct Bullion and Moore's Money-focused products/events.

The lies of the cost of living crisis. You're either being lied to about the real reasons behind the cost of living crisis or it's a cover up or you don't know what you don't know and to be honest, it doesn't really matter. What matters is what you know. I believe the more you learn, the more you earn as long as you're learning about money and unfortunately we're not taught in schools the things in money that prepare us to be wealthy in society and society, the government, the central banks keep from us vital information to help us become financially independent because they want us financially dependent. Like if you think about how the central banking system and the government work, the central banks make money from debt. So the central banks want you in debt because if you're in debt they make money on the interest. Money is now debt because there's no reserve currency. We came off the gold standard. Well, there's a reserve currency which is fiat currency, but there is no asset backed currency that the fiat system has. No real hard asset, for example gold backing it. So money is just created out of thin air. It's just debt. Debt created to print and make digital money. And the banks, the central banks supposed to be independent from the government, but I'm not sure they make money by getting you into debt. The average American pays 600,000 pounds in interest in their life and my guess is most of that is bad debt and that suits the central banks because that's how they make their money. So you're not going to get taught that in school. Why would you get taught that in school? People wonder why does this stuff not be taught in schools? But why would they teach you that in school? Anyway, I might come back to that. But we are not in a cost of living crisis. We are not. People think we are, but we are not. We are in a government debt crisis. Now how do the government get in debt? They spend more than they earn. That's how anyone gets into debt. I'll tell you. I'm just going to go on a bit of a rant here. What pisses me off about the governments is they can be legally insolvent. So if a business or an entrepreneur was knowingly trading, getting into debt, that's illegal. That's called trading insolvently. They can go to prison for that. That seems to be standard government policy. The UK government is now 2.2 trillion in debt. There is tens of billions moving towards hundreds of billions just in interest payments. That's like having a bucket with a Big hole in it, and you're pouring water in it. You pour water in faster, it just comes out of the hole faster. And what used to happen decades and centuries ago is you used to have to balance your books as a government. If you're in deficit, you create a surplus to fill the deficit, you balance your books. But that hasn't happened for decades. It just doesn't seem to be a monetary policy anymore. So the first thing about this cost of living crisis that isn't a cost of living crisis is it's a debt crisis. But governments with the in cohorts, with central banks, they create debt. It's a strategy, quantitative easing, the printing of money. It's what they do. So they are knowingly creating debt and the cost of that debt gets pushed on to you. And there's multiple ways they do that. Number one, they create the money as debt and then they lend it to you and then you're in debt to them for 40 or 50 years. That's way number one, that they push the debt onto you. Way number two, that they push the debt onto you is as they create more debt, they increase taxes, and so they push their debt onto you through increased taxation. Number three is quantitative easing. They print more money to pay down their debt, but they're pulling down the value of your money. So they're passing their debt on to you. And here's the thing, they're supposed to represent us, the government are supposed to represent the people. But they have two big needles, one massive needle goes into your left arm. And this is, let's not teach them about how money in the system really works. Because we want them in the system. Let's get them in the system and let's get them paying 35, 40, 45, 50% tax for the next 50 years. That's needle one in your arm. Comply, be employed, pay your 50% in taxes for the rest of your life. And they're sucking out half of your blood in your life from one.

Then the second arm. This is interest. We're going to create debt. We're going to lend it to you and we're going to get you in debt for the rest of your lives. Paying our debt off, 600,000 in your life. The second needle in the other arm, taking half of your blood in debt. So our prices aren't going up because of inflation? No, they're going up because the governments are in trillions of debt. They print money as debt, which isn't real. If money was backed by gold, they would have to slow down the printing of money because there is a finite resource of gold. The reason that the gold standard was removed in America in August 1971 was because they didn't have enough money to finance debt. Often what you have with fiat currency and the printing of money is to finance wars. So it's just a convenient way to create a load more money to pay debt and to pay wars. But you end up paying. If you'd like to make, manage and.

Massive debt crisis, some people are calling it a debt bubble. And trillions in debt means billions in interest, means increased taxation. But there's also been multiple mismanagements. So if a government has, I don't know, 500 billion or 2 trillion to spend and they spend a load of it on a lockdown and track and trace apps and support loans and much of that is wasted or wasn't required or wasn't fit for purpose or PPE equipment that got written off. And by the way, you just go do your research on how much the track and trace app cost, how much the PPE equipment was written off, you're talking tens of billions and all these things add up and then you have this energy cap dramatic increase and then to save the people, the UK government come in and guarantee some of it and that costs them 150 billion, furlough cost 90 billion. The energy cap guarantee is going to cost 150 billion. Whereas if we had our own independent energy, which we do have, by the way, because we do have a windy wind in the uk, we do have sun in the uk, we do have water, we do have the ability to make turbines, it's not like we don't have energy. But so we give away all this independence, we give away all this control and then so we're able to be blackmailed for energy. We don't have our own independent supply, so prices are forced up upon us and then we have to pay for it. But by we, I don't mean the government, I mean you. Because whilst it's nice that there can be tax cuts and it's nice that there can be support for things like energy cap raises, in the end you pay for it. There's two ways to increase revenue for a government, but most of them only seem to know one. There's increased economy and increased tax.

Robmore.Directbullion.Com but they just tend to increase tax, tax, tax, tax, tax instead of fueling growth. So we've got a debt crisis, not a cost of living crisis. We've got multiple mismanagements of government money and spending crisis. But we also have a power crisis. So I was thinking we're told that inflation is 8.3, 9.5, might be 10 or 15%. I'm thinking this doesn't add up. Like my milk, my cheese, my eggs, my travel, my accommodation doesn't seem to have only gone up 8%. Something's wrong here and you look at a lot of the commodities and they've gone up 30%, 50% and you think how is this we're supposed to have fair price competition. And when you go to the supermarket and you look at all the products you buy, they're all owned by Procter and Gamble or Unilever. So there's a monopoly. So you think inflation is putting the price of everything up because that's what you're told in the media. But if Procter and Gamble and Unilever own all the products on the shelves, they can just push up the price as much as they want because they don't have competition. Now I'm not blaming them for that. They've bought companies, they've created monopolies, they've built multiple brands. You know they've earned it probably over best part of well decades if not a century. But the point of a government is for antitrust and anti monopoly and to govern and to regulate. But now they're beholden to these big brands who I can't prove this but I'd love your thoughts by the way let me know in what you think about this but I figure some of the massive brands, so you've got Unilever, Procter and Gamble, Meta, Google, Microsoft. I guess they must have a lot of financial control within governments. I don't know if they donate to campaigns, I don't know if they have control over certain policy because they have a lot of power. Got no proof to say that but I just wonder if they have a lot of financial and power control. Like for example if a big social media platform is able to use an algorithm to get, get you more votes or get you less votes. That's a lot of power. And we gave them the power because we, we put, we the people put our governments into power. Our governments govern our countries so we have to hold them to account. This is why I think there's a revolution coming. And you look you like look, you look back through history. Revolutions happen. I mean it was as recent as 2008. There was a bank run on Northern Rock. There's been recent shutting down of money in Japan banks just saying your savings are now government assets. A big part of the price increase is what some people are calling greedflation. And greedflation is where big brands are able to maybe what people perceive unfairly push up prices because they have unfair monopoly. I am a believer in a free market. I'm a believer in a meritocracy. I'm a believer that the best way to regulate prices is to have fair competition across the board. That's the best way to regulate prices rather than intervention from governmental controls. But right now we don't have free markets. It's. There's the illusion delusion of a free market. But there isn't a free market because a few big brands own nearly all the brands. So do not believe the hype and the lies that inflation is making everything cost a lot more than it is, when in reality it's a debt crisis, not a cost of living crisis. It's a multiple mismanagement and misappropriation of funds crisis. Which if, by the way, an entrepreneur or a small business did this, they would, they would be put in prison or accused of fraud. Then you've got the power crisis and the power struggle with all the big brands that own. Look at Louis Vuitton, Moet, nsc. They own so many of the big brands. You look at all these big designer brands, you think they're so expensive. Like the designer brands went up so much in the last three years since the lockdown. How can this be? Because one or two companies own all the brands, so they could just go back. Well, you can't do anything about it because no one else can undercut us because we own all the brands, not blaming them. I'm an entrepreneur. I like growth. I think you should be rewarded for effort. So here's what you can do, because I like to give you solutions at the end of all my content. The first thing is the only way to beat the system is to learn how the system works. And this is important. And a lot of people don't know how the system works. They don't know how fractional reserve banking works. They don't know quantitative easing and how it works. They don't know how the central banks create money. They don't know, for example, that money is debt. And they don't know that money is one of the worst investments you can invest in. So some people say to me, rob, it's really not fair that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Well, life isn't fair. You don't get what you deserve. You don't get what's fair. You get what you negotiate, you get what you tolerate. So if you can't tolerate your situation, you need to learn a new way. What's the best way to learn a new way to make money? Look at all the people that are making money. So you do not get rich in money. And a lot of people don't get this. They think it's Nonsense. I'm sure I'll get it in the comments. But look at this. Inflation is higher than interest, therefore money loses value. That's surely basic economics is if interest rates are lower than inflation and inflation is higher than interest rates, you lose money having money. If interest rates are higher than inflation, as long as the banks pass it all on to you, because they often don't, then you should grow and make money having money. So right now I know interest rates are going up and they could go crazy, but for more than a decade they've been artificially low long term average interest rates. You can do your research, 5 to 6%. But they've been under half a percent, under 0.2%, 5% for 10 years plus. So this we're used to, we've become softened, dependent, juvenile. Oh, look at me, I'm used to my no interest, tiny little mortgage, oh, keep feeding me. But in reality it's not, it's not the long term average interest rates are still relatively low and inflation is relatively high and inflation's only going to get higher. So what the rich do is they earn money so they can invest in assets. They don't earn money to have money. What the broke do is they only know money. They don't know how to invest. They've got money and then they've got no choice because this money goes down in value, because they don't know how to invest, because they haven't been taught at school. There weren't investment classes at school. They don't want the masses, you know, getting above this station. We don't want to teach you how to invest, you know, we don't want you to not invest. Oh, no, no, no, Just, just hold money and hold debt and let us lend it to you and keep paying us interest and keep it in the banks. Fractional reserve banking system. Banks are allowed to hold sometimes as low as 10 of the deposits they've been given, which means banks can be given $100 and they can keep 10, the fraction in reserve, and they can lend and invest out 90, they can lend her and invest out on a factor of 10 to 1. So you give money to the banks, you lose money and then they're allowed to lend and invest it out at a 10 to 1 ratio and earn on it. So cash and money is a depreciating liability for you, but it's an asset for the banks and they can earn on it. Oh, and by the way, when everyone wants it back, oh, Mr. Bank, whoa, whoa. We've only got 10% of all the money and everyone wants it back. I'll close the doors. That's called a bank run. So this is real now? It is the system. You can either fight the system, learn the system, or turn the system to your advantage. So here's what you can do. Few solutions. I love to end with solutions. Hope you found this useful. Number one is you've got to wake up and educate yourself. I don't naturally think it's necessarily corrupt. I just think it is the system. Because by the way, fiat currency and the creation of money out of thin air is a pretty freaking amazing invention. And it, and it allows a lot of economic growth. So money is an amazing invention. So I'm not fully against fiat currency, but you've got to understand the upsides and downsides. Wake up, educate yourself about the, the banking system. You know, I have my money podcast, I have my More Money Secrets YouTube channel. I'm going to chuck content on there very regularly. So that's a good place where you can start to learn about the reality of money and the system. The next thing is, I do think this is important from an ethical point of view, yes, but also from a fair price point of view. If you want prices to be more fair, that is you want prices to come down and not go up and you don't want this cost of living crisis, you have to be more aware and wise of how you spend your money. And if you spend your money with those big brands only, and I know that's not easy because they own a lot of the brands, then you are giving price control away to those big brands. Whereas if you spend independently and you spend locally and you try and maybe spend in a decentralized fashion, not in monopolies, money moves a bit more away from them and to the independence and that creates more fair price comparison. Because, for example, with Amazon, Amazon is a great service. And again, I see the upsides in some of these downsides. But Amazon, through, you know, mass economies of scale, was just able to wipe out so many localized small businesses and because they couldn't compete, so they can undercut them, but then when they've got monopoly, then they can bang the prices up and start the price controls again. This isn't, this is what corporations do. You can either jump up and down like the Tasmanian devil and be really pissed off and upset about it, or you can learn how the system works. So wake up, educate yourself. The more you learn, the more you earn. We've got the more money secrets YouTube channel. We've got the money podcast. I wrote the UK's best selling book on money called Money. You can educate yourself out there. The next thing is you've got to understand what is an asset and what is a liability. And money in the bank is a liability. Cash is a liability. Fiat currency is a liability. Now you need it. I'm not saying don't have any money. You need money for your supplies, your amenities, your subsistence, your general living. But that's it. That's it. Anything spare surplus needs to be invested. So money is a depreciating liability. It's one of the worst investments. That's in the class of investments. But real estate and gold and other hard assets, real assets are an asset. So minimal cash maximum in hard asset, appreciating asset, not depreciating liability. And remember, if you don't risk anything, you risk everything.
