What Is Your Opinion On Cashless Societies?
21 Nov 2025 · 28 min
Podcast episode (Rob Moore) arguing that cashless societies and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) threaten privacy, freedom and financial independence. Moore links corporate shareholders (BlackRock, Vanguard) and supermarket policies (Tesco reducing cash acceptance) to broader control and profit motives, advocates using cash and supporting small businesses, and promotes precious metals (gold/silver) and a partner firm (Direct Bullion).

This is your warning against a cashless society and what it means for millions of Brits who don't have a bank account. Rob warns us of the dangers of centralized digital currencies and how governments use this to control all of us. Rob even shares how inflation and big corporations like Tesco are stealing our money without you even realizing. And when we investigated these companies live on the episode, we found out who really controls the world. What's your opinion on cashless societies and central bank digital currencies?
It is the next apocalypse. So I don't know if you've seen any of those vampire movies, how the world ends up after, you know, the first case comes out and bites the first person. It is the next apocalypse. Like think what cash is. Cash is privacy, cash is freedom. And think what the Matrix or the global totalitarian, authoritarian, dictatorial, one world government. If that is a thing, think what that wants to take from you. If you have no freedom and no privacy, you can be completely controlled. And it really pisses me off when people say, oh, but it's so convenient because I can just tap my phone. It's also convenient to pay with a tenner and be given a fiver in change. That's also convenient. I'll tell you something that really pisses me off. Tesco have just banned cash. And they won't say banned cash, but you can't now pay with cash in 40 Tesco cafes. And so the PR is, oh, it will speed up waiting. How long does it take to give a tenner and receive a fiver back? What about the 1.1 million people that don't have a bank account? What about all the elderly people that budget in cash? The people that still get paid in cash. But the scarier thing is it starts with a few little cafes over here and before you know it, you cannot pay for cash for anything. And I think about what that really means. In fact, people say to me, oh, Rob, you know, you're being a bit of a conspiracy theorist. Google this. Do BlackRock have shares in Tesco? Let's have a look and see what it says.
They are the largest shareholder.
So BlackRock. Yeah, this is what it says. Read what it says.
All right, so this is from Yahoo Finance hedge funds. Don't have many shares in Tesco's. Our Data shows that BlackRock is the largest shareholder with 8.1% of shares.
So BlackRock are the biggest fund in the world. So basically they are the biggest bank. So basically they are the biggest controller of money. And by the way, here's something that people don't say, you know, if I give you a tenner and you give me a fiver back, the bank make nothing on that. And there's trillions of pounds and dollars and yen and pounds and pence, dollars and cents being exchanged in cash. The bank make nothing on it. But every time I tap that in a taxi, the bank make 5%. People say, oh, no, no, no, it's only 2%, it's only 3%. No, no, taxi drivers get charged 5% for every tap. So imagine if they took the trillions in cash transactions, made them all digital, all of a sudden the banks are making trillions. And who's the biggest bank in the world? It's not Barclays or NatWest, it's fucking BlackRock. Who would you say this recent budget should warn you that your pension is not safe and secure and they're coming for your inherit. Know how much is in your pension or where your pension is invested. Add to this the recent inheritance tax grab on your pensions and the risk of a market crash. You probably didn't know this and I didn't until recently, but physical gold can be added to your pension pot. Gold is inheritance tax free and has grown 700% in the last 20 years. You probably know from my content I'm investing heavily in silver and gold and that's why I've partnered with direct bullion. Myself and Nigel Farage are brand ambassadors and direct bullion can help you with gold to protect and grow your pension. I buy my gold and silver from direct bullion and I don't earn any money on any purchases of gold or silver if you buy direct from direct bullion. So if you go to robmore.directbullion.com you can get a great price on your silver and gold and you can get the pension gold investing guide completely for free. As you know, I don't do many strategic partnerships and when I do, I, I do them with people who are credible, who've been doing it a long time, who invest in things that I invest into. And gold and silver's going wild. I'm investing heavily in gold and silver and I recommend you check out robmore.directbullion.com number two Vanguard.
Guess who the number two biggest shareholder in Tesco's is?
Vanguard. Like if people watching and listening now aren't going, holy shit, this is the start of the zombie apocalypse. I don't know what they're thinking. And by the way, I've spent many years trying to track where all the Roads lead to. And you know what you need to do when you want to track where all the roads lead to of lockdowns, pandemics, wars, you follow the money. And now we're starting to connect all the dots because how many supermarkets are there in the uk? There's Aldi, Lidl, Sainsbury's, Morrisons. It's not any of them yet that are stopping cash, it's Tesco. Who's the biggest shareholder. Oh, BlackRock and then Vanguard. I bet you State Street. Have a look if State street own any of Tesco, because they're the third biggest money mover.
So number three in Tesco's is Silchester, which I've never heard of.
Right.
Not coming up as simple. If I dig into it, that's probably.
Because they're smaller than Vanguard and BlackRock. So what I think about cashless societies is it's a move to control you, it's a move to tax you more, it's a move to survey you. Like, imagine they don't want you to leave the country. The easiest way to stop you leaving the country is just to shut your bank account. Don't even need to do it with a passport. Imagine if they don't want you to leave the house, well, they just shut your bank account. It's much easier than any tracking device because you can't move anywhere without money. And then the central bank digital currency is just the next layer of control because essentially if cash and money becomes central digital currency, let's say they, they want to pump the economy, they can say, you've got to spend 10 grand in the next 30 days or we're just going to put 10 grand out into the economy, we're going to take 10 grand. In Japan, some banks shut down and there was a statement that went out which basically said, your savings have become national asset, which is basically a way of saying, we have stolen your money legally. Now, some people again think this is a bit conspiracy, but look at what we found. It's not. But actually, when I think about it, the biggest motivator, I think, for a cashless society and central bank digital currency is the trillions they're losing and not being able to charge you 5% of, of every one of your cash transactions.
So do you think that's why BlackRock is investing heavily in these companies that have lots of transactions, they then remove cash so that you've got no choice but to tap and then they're essentially just getting a portion of every single one of those sales?
Well, I Couldn't say for sure, but follow the money. People don't realize that blackrock are a bank. Of course they're a bank. Whoever controls masses of money is a bank. Just because you don't have a machine that you put your card in.
So.
So look at what benefits them. So, you know, if you think about the pharmaceutical industry, I can't say that painkillers are addictive. I can't. But would it benefit pharmaceutical company profits if they were? Why do so many people get addicted to them if they're not addictive? So follow the money, follow the motive. And the motive for all banks and all major corporations is maximum shareholder value. It's not maximum human interest, it's not maximum societal benefit, it's not maximum human evolution. It's not maximum kindness to humanity. It's maximum shareholder value, which means profit at all costs. Now, is that nefarious and satanic? No, but I do think that if we want to change humanity, because at the moment, we're at a real crossroads in humanity where nations are in trillions of debt, none of the public services work. There's no real safety or security anymore. We're getting tax left, right and center, up, down, sideways. So I feel like, and this is part of my mission to help as many people on the planet get better financial knowledge. What we need is we need to change the goal of maximum shareholder value. And somehow we need profit and purpose, not profit at all.
Is there anything or is there any foreshadowing happening in China that you think could happen in the Western world because they are tracked in every aspect of their life?
So do you mean will the west become a surveillance state and a communist society potentially? Well, it feels like that's what we are already. I mean, you go into London and there's all these Ulez cameras. Like, you can't go anywhere now without three or four or five or ten cameras all over. If you carry this device around with you, which is your phone, then every single move you make, probably every single thing you say is tracked. So we are already a surveillance state, nation already. Communism, the way I see it is, you know, taking from all the rich and successful and turning it into a state asset. Well, I think that's what they're doing in the West. They just don't call it that, because if they called it that, there would be a revolution. So what they have to do is pretend they're capitalist, when in fact they're not. So I think we are already in a communist state in the uk.
So what are they Doing instead.
What are who doing instead?
So you said we are basically a communist state. They just don't call it that. How are they taking from the rich and giving to the poor?
That's called tax, that's what it is. People don't understand that money is already being taken from the rich and given to the poor. Well, in fact. No, let me reword that. Money is being taken from the rich and squandered and wasted by our nation state. Are you happy with the state of your roads in the uk? Are you happy with the state of the NHS in the uk? Are you happy that your second highest expense in tax is nhs, but then you can't get in NHS so that you also have to then pay private? Are you happy to pay for your health care not once but twice? You are not, Are you? Are you happy to pay huge premiums on your insurance? So I've got an Aston Martin dbs, as you know, and a woman reversed into the car. I tried to claim on the insurance and her insurance, not mine, because it was her fault. And me claiming on her insurance, by the way, her car, it will cost 150 quid to repair my car, it will cost five grand. So I claim on her insurance, but then they put up my premium and then a week later I stopped at a junction and some guy went into the back of my fucking Aston Martin again and he's like exchanging details. I'm really sorry. And I'm thinking, your car is going to cost 100 quid. My car is going to cost five grand. So that's ten grand for two claims I can't make because they'll take it off me and the profit on top in my increased premium. Why should my premium go up when someone else crashes into me? Like, imagine my health insurance. Imagine if you're ill and my health insurance goes up because you touched me. I mean, that would be a scam. And this is the kind of shit that's going on. So insurance is a rip off because you pay twice because you pay for the premium. And then when there's an accident, you can't claim on insurance because it costs you more than repairing it. So you pay for insurance twice, you pay for health care twice. So actually they're taking from the rich. Now the message they put out is all these billionaires avoiding tax. No, billionaires are just moving away from countries that want to rape them tactually and going to countries that won't rape them. So everyone's going to Monaco and everyone's going to Dubai. So all the billions from the rich are actually flowing through the Dubai economy, the Monaco economy. Give you an example, Taylor Swift, I think she's a fucking legend. And she comes to the UK and you know she bought a billion of economy when she did her UK tour, filling out with this stadium. Imagine the hot dog stall guy struggling a bit for business parks outside Wembley when Taylor Swift's on, he can't order enough sausages, he can't sell sausages quickly enough. Hell, Taylor Swift keep coming back and she brings all this economy. So she should have some breaks and some protection. But all that happens is the billionaires get freaking sent away because they get robbed. A friend of mine in the top 100 richest people in the UK moved to Monaco to avoid all the tax. He knows someone who's about fifth richest in the UK, left for Monaco 20 years ago and he's like, I think I'm going to come back to the UK now. And the UK went, yeah, you can come back, we'll charge you a 50 million one off tax to come back. So a billionaire is offering to come back, bring his yacht, bring his staff, bring his billions of economy back into London, which is crumbling, and the UK are like, now pay us a 50 million fee. So he's like, fuck off, I'm not coming back. This is the. And people don't call the UK a communist state. It is a communist state. So what they are doing is robbing from the rich. The reason it's robbing. Let me ask you this, did you choose to pay tax?
No.
Do you get a choice of where your tax goes?
No.
So, you know, if you wanted to donate to charity, you can choose your charities and choose where it goes. You don't get to choose where your tax money goes. I think high earners should be able to opt in. Right, Here are the 32 investments we're going to make in your tax money. You can choose the top six and you can choose where you deploy your money. I'd feel much more grateful to pay tax. Oh, yeah, I might. The roads are. I'll pay for that. The NHS is, I'll pay for that. Oh, the prime minister's 40 million a year helicopter and private jet.
Bill.
No, I'm not paying for that. That's what 40 million quid Rishi got a year for helicopter and private jet, while most people in the UK couldn't even afford their fucking heating. So your tax, and you're a wealthy guy, your tax goes to pay for Rishi's helicopter. How do you feel about that.
Yeah. Thank you.
Yeah. So ruin my morning. Yeah. This is the shit that's going on and you already don't get to choose if you pay tax or not. Because I believe the government should be more like a private organization or corporation, which means if they do well, they make profit. If they do badly, they make a loss. And we should have some say in where our money goes, because all of a sudden they're going to be very accountable to invest the trillion that they get wisely. But of course the government are never going to opt into them. Would you rather give Elon Musk a trillion to invest in the UK or our government a trillion to invest in the uk?
Yeah, Musk all day long.
I mean, Musk could turn a trillion into two or three.
Yeah.
The UK government will turn a trillion into fucking riots. And I remember in 2000 going to Bulgaria because bought a place out there and the roads, potholes around fucking. I mean, this is like this stuff out the 1950s now that's like that in the UK. You know, the road I live on, I have to drive in the middle of the road to miss all the fucking potholes.
Anyway, do you think then more entrepreneurs like Trump should go for office and go into politics? Do you think they'll do a better job for the economy?
Well, it's much easier in the US to do that. The UK political system means that no one can just run like they can in the us. So I think the UK needs a change in the political system whereby essentially anyone can run, because I think we have then more real time feedback. No one in government knows how to run a real business because they're not entrepreneurs, they're academics. And, you know, reading in a textbook or learning from a lecturer is very different from running your own company. I've run my own company for two decades. It's a real economy. The UK economy is not a real economy. Here's why. Because they can overspend and there's no penalty, because there's no merit. So there's no reward for success and there's no penalty for failure. They can stay in office for at least four years with no performance management, or if they're not doing very well, they get fired, or if they're doing very well, they get a promotion. So there's none of that. It's just a big lump that sticks there for four years. And so there's. There's no one in office who knows how to take five pounds and turn it into ten or knows how to grow an economy properly or knows how to run an economy properly, because a business is an economy, but the government is a false economy. They can get trillions in debt and it doesn't matter. Do you know if you knowingly trade insolvently, which means if you take money now, knowing that you're losing money, you can be struck off as a director, you can even go to prison. But the whole world knows that the government's trading insolvently and nothing happens. Nothing happens. They've just made it legal. So I don't know what your question was, but that's the reality of what's going on.
How about digital currencies owned by the governments? Is that net positive?
How can anything owned by the government be net positive? Look at generally what happens with things that become public. Deprivatization, underfunded, strikes, late all the time, poor. Look at the nhs. I mean, I shudder to think how much the National Health Service in the UK has had pumped into it. It's trillions of pounds and it's a failing service. So I believe in privatization, I believe in competition, I believe in merit and reward for success and accountability and penalty for. For failure. I would actually make sure that a Prime Minister or president and people in key positions in office, like the treasurer, etc. If they performed well, they should get very good bonuses. If they perform badly, they should get their basic salary and that's it. Or even just, you know, they should get kicked out of office. There should be certain metrics that they've got to hit. But the problem for this to happen is you need an independence away from the government to hold the government to account. But the governments in the central bank should be separate so the, the central banks can be held accountable by the government. But essentially the government and the central banks is just one big bloated organization where there is no one holding it accountable. I mean, imagine this. Imagine in the UK if Richard Branson and you took the top five UK billionaires and they had a mastermind of six people, or the top 60 UK billionaires and they had a mastermind Of 60 people and they started looking at the economy and running the economy. Do you know the first thing they do? I can tell you this because I'm a multimillionaire myself. The first thing any entrepreneur would do if they were running government is go, right, let's look at all the people we exiled, let's bring the Russian billionaires back, let's bring all the Saudi billionaires back, let's bring all the UK expat billionaires back and let's just bring trillions into London and into the major city in the UK and let's grow the economy and let's make them welcome, let's tax them. Yes, but give them some tax breaks. London used to be one of the greatest tax haven. That's why we had so many great overseas billionaires and now we've sent them all away. I'm telling you, that's the first thing they would do. The next thing I imagine they would probably do is they'd put some stopgap our national debt and make sure that we don't spiraling more and more international debt. Because you know, people think that inflation is a natural consequence of money. It is not. If the government didn't print any more money, that would slow inflation almost to a halt. Money is a man made construct. Inflation is a man made construct. Do you think it's fair that your hundred pounds in 20 years is worth £20?
No.
Should your £100 always be worth £100 buying power? Because surely that's why you save, you don't save for it to lose money. You, you save the £100 in the good faith that it'll always be worth £100. But it's not. But inflation is sold to you like it's just a normal occurrence. It's not. It's a man made construct. So what we need to focus on in the west especially is economic growth. How we do that is we bring money into the country. So imagine if what happened with Taylor Swift, if you know where she came and filled out all the big stadiums and mega gigs and brought a billion of economy. Imagine if we brought the billionaires and all the people who've got big tech companies, hey look, come to the UK, have your base here, have your 10,000 staff here. We're going to tax you a bit, but we're going to work with you. We're going to be very close to you. Do you know last time Donald Trump got in power, do you know he got Mark Zuckerberg, head of Facebook, Tim Cook, head of Apple, got them all in a. I don't know what was said in that room, but knowing what you know about Donald Trump, you imagine he's like, I'm going to look after you boys and would I give these billionaires some tax breaks? Not all some, because they've got to pay their fair share. But would I give them some tax breaks if they're growing the economy by billions and trillions? Of course I would. Because are the broke people growing the Economy by billions and trillions? No. Are the lefties and the wokies growing the economy by billions and trillions? No. Anyway, I don't know what your question was.
Well, it was as usual. It's fine. It was around digital currencies controlled by banks or government.
You need competition, okay? If there's a central bank, digital currency, and some crypto that the one world government has, there is no competition. I'll be honest. If there was no competition in my industry and I could just have all the customers and all the money and you made a little complaint. I'm like, go yourself. You could complain all you like because I have got a total monopoly on this. Human nature would be the ego would come out. There would be control. I like to think I'd be a bit nicer. I like to think I'd be a bit kinder. I like to think I'd be focused on human nature is that when you have competition, service improves. When you don't have competition, service declines.
So why do you need competition in currency?
Well, if there was one currency that was losing value less than another currency, which currency are you going to use? The one that holds the value the best or the one that loses the value now over time and money? I wrote this in my book Money. I write about the history of money. There have been many currencies, and I don't just mean one currency in the UK, one currency in the US one currency in China. I mean decentralized currency. 10 currencies in one nation was quite common. And then there were singular events which created monopolies. So a lot of people talk about the Jekyll island where, you know, the major banks in the US all got together in the early 1900s and created a cabal or a monopoly. And we're like, right, let's form one major bank and we'll crush and wipe out everyone else. Now that's human nature as well. It's human nature for your culture and your way. You. You want that to be pervasive and you want to crush your competition. But in order to not give total power and greed, you need competition and decentralization. This is why Bitcoin is good. All the reasons that the bitcoin evangelists say bitcoin is good, fine. Centralization, security, limited supply, tick, tick, tick. But I think the real benefit of Bitcoin is it's a challenger, potential challenger currency to cash and dollars and pounds.
So here's the thing, right? So if governments have to use a central digital currency, so if it's on the blockchain. Like for example with bitcoin, you know where it's spent, you know who it's come from, where it's gone to. It's all very trackable. Right, so does that mean that we would be able to see where they're spending the tax pounds?
What fucking naive drugs have you just been taking today? Or are you just winding me up on purpose?
Of course.
So you think if the government had their own crypto central currency they would make it a transparent ledger where we could see every single transaction open source on the Internet? You really think the government would do that? No, would they?
Fuck, but I like seeing that vein pop.
Well I tell you. Yeah, oh yeah, that one has been popping with my rants. I tell you who would though. Elon Musk. Elon Musk is the only person who has a major social media platform Legacy One, you know, I TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X etc YouTube that has open source algorithm I. E. You can go and see what the algorithm is, everyone else you can't see what the algorithm is and they can do what they want. So I imagine our only hope is that if Elon Musk set up a digital currency, I bet you he'd make it open source and transparent. If a government did, I would bet you all the fucking tea in China that they would make it opaque as official term.
It was that in the book.
Oaf that they are governments Oaf Opaque.
As you can come up with some one liners, don't you? Okay, so cashless society seems like the end of the world and what can we do to to prevent that?
Voting Useless. Moaning on social media. Useless, even rioting. Semi useless. Don't give them your money, that's what. So I think the BBC has gone very woke. I think it's not neutral, which is what it was supposed to be. What's the best way to make BBC change? Everyone stop paying the TV license. I don't know how many tens of millions of people pay for the TV license, but if 10 million people cancelled the direct debit today, tomorrow the BBC are changing. So don't put your money in banks that are owned by corporations you think are opaque and not transparent. Don't spend your money in massive corporations and supermarkets which don't take cash, give cash to taxi drivers, use cash where you can and buy from small independents. And if 10 million of us in the UK are and 50 million of us in the US did that the world would change overnight. They'd all of a sudden be what can we do? What can we do? What can we do? That's how you change. You be mindful of where you spend your money. But we all have to be in.
Com.
But we all have to be involved in that decision making process because 10 of us doing it is not enough. And this is one of the things that part of my mission to help people get better financial knowledge is be mindful of where your money goes.
Nice job.
Boom. And remember, if you don't risk anything, you risk everything.
