Short excerpt from a YouTube interview titled 'Bill Wilson, MD: Craving Sugar is Not Normal.' The speakers emphasize that a whole-food diet is desirable but difficult when strong cravings exist; cravings drive people toward processed foods in stores, so controlling cravings is essential. Education and awareness—teaching patients and doctors—are presented as first steps.
Okay, so eat whole food diet is really. It sounds like your philosophy a little bit.
Yeah. It's not complicated. If you have strong cravings, though, you can't do that.
Right.
You could tell people to do it. They're going to go to the store and they're going to head down the wrong aisle because their brain is pushing them there. So you, you know, it's very important to get those cravings under control.
Very important. And I think the first step in all of this is education and awareness and, you know, educating patients, educating doctors as you've been doing.
Well, a lot of people don't know that those cravings are abnormal. They think I just have a sweet tooth. And they don't realize how it's kind of controlling their food intake, really. And once you treat them, they say, why, my goodness, I can't believe it. I didn't realize how good whole food tastes. You know, because they're not craving the other stuff now. They crave good stuff. So if your brain's working like it should, you crave healthy food.
