Bill Wilson MD explains how GLP-1 drugs work: they slow stomach emptying, boost insulin, suppress hunger, and improve insulin sensitivity. He argues they won't treat major depression but can fix mood problems caused by poor diet and blood sugar swings.
It's important to understand this, I think, because GLP drugs are not going to impact true major depression. I don't believe. But most people that have mood disorders don't have, you know, psychiatric terms. They have diet induced brain dysfunction. And GLP drugs are miracle drugs when it comes to those disorders. Does that make sense?
Yeah. Can you explain basically how the GLP1 receptor agonist work both in managing blood sugar and addressing weight loss?
Well, they work on all sorts of levels. They slow gastric emptying. They increase insulin secretion by the pancreas, suppress glucagon in the brain. They decreased or increased satiety. Feelings of hunger are diminished. You know, those are the, those are the primary effects. They increase insulin sensitivity. We don't even understand all the different ways these drugs act.
