Dr. Ron Najafi explains how a mother's high-fructose diet changes fetal development: smaller babies, larger placentas, and altered metabolic genes. He connects these changes to UCP2, an uncoupling protein, to explain why human body temperature has been declining.

Happens in humans. You can see here's a control diet, a high fructose diet. You can see that the fetal weights down, the placental weights up. Okay. And you can see here the placental diameter and the fetal placental ratio are clearly altered. And you can see here's the labyrinth being smaller, whereas this decidua are bigger. Okay. It's changing the fetal placental unit because of the sugar in the mother's diet. And ultimately, this leads to changes in SCD1, one of the enzymes involved in liver and liver lipid metabolism, SREBP1, which is sterile regulatory element binding protein 1, which is necessary to make triglyceride and UCP2, uncoupling protein. Maybe this is the reason why everybody's body temperature is going down, because uncoupling protein is what makes the body heal. Okay. So Michael Pollan.
