Rowan Trollope answers rapid-fire questions about his preferences: sloth as spirit animal, Macs over PCs, dogs over cats. He's curious about the universe's origin and imagines a future of ambient computing, where machines understand context and join conversations without being asked.
Chapters
Okay, if you could be any animal, what would it be and why? It'd have to be a sloth. I'm on the go so much these days, I want to relax and chill out and like watch Hulu for the rest of my life.
Mac or PC?
Mac.
Card game or board game? Card game. I love poker. Dog or cat? I love dogs. I'm a dog guy. If you had a time machine, when and where would you choose to go?
The creation, like, like the, I don't know, the creation of the universe, the Big Bang, just because I would like to know exactly what it is that happened. I'm a sort of a non-trained physics lover. Maybe be just before the Big Bang. What was there? Netflix or YouTube? A hard choice, but I'd have to go YouTube because I can learn lots of things on YouTube. It's super awesome. Awesome. Phone call or text? Text for sure.
Facebook or Twitter? Twitter. If you could trade lives with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?
I would trade lives with Elon Musk when he goes to Mars because I think that would be super cool.
We'll have to combine the time machine and the trading lives.
Music or podcasts? Podcasts.
iOS or Android?
You shouldn't even be asking me that question. iOS.
New clothes or new phone? Ooh. New phone. What new technology will transform the future?
I think computers participating in conversations and understanding, not only hearing and being a part of what we are saying all the time, and being able to contribute, but also being able to see. So opening up the input/output of the computer so that it's always engaged in every conversation we have, whether it's, you know, on a phone or in some sort of ambient computing. So I think what I call ambient computing. That's kind of far in the future, but that's what I see. What's worse, doing the laundry or doing the dishes? Doing the laundry. Obviously.
Online shopping or shopping in a store?
Online shopping, for sure.
TV or book? Book. Game of Thrones or Harry Potter? Game of Thrones. If you were stranded on a desert island, what 2 items would you want with you?
A book. A Kindle. A Kindle with all of my books, so I get like a bajillion books on my Kindle. I'll allow you a Kindle. Thank you. The second item— Would be a bottle of Corona that never, like, every time I drink it, it fills back up.
