How To Develop A Marketing SYSTEM
11 Jan 2021 · 29 min
In this solo podcast episode, Ruth Kusemiju (Social Media Boss Lady) opens 2021 by explaining why entrepreneurs need reliable, predictable marketing systems instead of random, erratic marketing "accidents." She defines a marketing system as an organized, consistent process that delivers quality prospects affordably and efficiently. Ruth breaks down the system into three core dimensions—affordability (knowing customer value and investing wisely), efficiency (targeted outreach that saves time), and quality/quantity (focusing on high‑probability prospects). She then presents seven essential elements of a marketing system: (1) a selected group of prospects, (2) appropriate media, (3) a compelling message, (4) an irresistible offer, (5) a simple response/capture method, (6) multi‑step short‑term follow‑up, and (7) maintenance follow‑up for unconverted leads. Throughout, she stresses the importance of LinkedIn, sharing detailed usage statistics and offering a LinkedIn profile optimization service. She also promotes her social media automation training, Facebook/LinkedIn groups, and a free form for interested listeners. The episode ends with a call to action to join her community and apply the system concepts to transform any business from chaotic prospecting to predictable growth.

Hey, this is Social Media Boss Lady on another episode of Marketing Tactics for Entrepreneurs. Yay! And welcome to 2021. This will be our very, very first episode for 2021, and it's happening on January 11th. Yay! Okay, so I know I did promise you the last time that I was going to close out the year with something and all. But as much as I know we make promises, it really pains me that I really, really could not live up to that expectation. And I'm so sorry to my listeners that were really looking forward to hearing from me, but yet I so disappointed them. But I promise you, 2021 is going to be different. If I say I'm going to do something, I would hold myself accountable. And then I also look to you to hold me accountable. To fulfill everything that I promised to do. Okay. All right. So fresh page, new start, new beginning, and we are ready to go. So yes, so it's marketing tactics for entrepreneurs and what better way to open up the year than to talk about how to develop a marketing system. Yes. So one thing we realized that getting rich gets a lot easier When demand exceeds supply. Do we agree? Definitely. When there are more people standing in line to see you than you can accommodate, or when more people are ready to buy than you need to exceed all your goals. And I know definitely this, I, I can reason it doesn't happen by accident, but there's always a but to Every, well, definitive sentence. But if you look around, um, at all the business owners, sales professionals that you know, probably include yourself in that mix, okay, you'll see people trying to achieve success by repeating accidents. Yes, they repeat accidents. And these accidents are like random acts of marketing, getting erratic results. They, um, get demand one day and then there's no demand the next And, uh, sometimes you probably, uh, you've been able to somehow find or attract several ideal clients this week, but, uh, probably you are wasting your time the next week with people who are totally unqualified to buy your products or your services. Now, if you need to escape escape all these erratic accidents that business owners and self-professionals do, you must have reliable, predictable, consistent systems. I'll repeat that again. You must have reliable, predictable, consistent systems that affordably and efficiently provide abundant quantities of quality prospects, customers, clients. Should I go over that again? Definitely I will. To escape all these successful accidents, you must have reliable, predictable, consistent systems that affordably and efficiently provide abundant quantities of quality prospects, customers, clients. Now, what's the keyword here? The keyword here is system. And really, by definition, a system is organized, it's reliable, and it's consistent, and therefore it's capable of delivering consistent, predictable results. What I mean here basically is that you're not advertising or doing prospective work wondering whether the results may be, or wondering what the results would be. But you know in advance, if I may put, you could be psychic. Um, like you'd probably go to bed every night knowing that within maybe a small range of variance, you probably know, ah, tomorrow would bring me this. If I put this in place, this would bring me that. So basically, a system really, really works for you. It's designed to, uh, replace a certain amount of manual labor that most times we find ourselves doing, and I'm so, so guilty of that. So that really should be, um, your purpose for working with any marketing system or model, um, that's been proven to work for you. Okay. All right, so, so this would just be a short pause, a short break, and then we'll be right back after this. Okay, don't go anywhere. Once upon a time, you graduated from college, from university, and someone told you you should really have a LinkedIn profile. It's like Facebook but for your career. And you said, oh yeah, that does seem like a good idea, and then you signed up. So let's fast forward many years and you haven't touched your LinkedIn profile since. Or maybe you've added in a job here and there when you made a switch, But well, let's just say that LinkedIn hasn't gotten as much of your love as Instagram. But now you're an early or mid-career professional who may be facing a job search in the near future. I mean, right now we are heading— we are in a down economy. Society's needs are changing, and maybe in the midst of this, of it all, even if your job is secure, you are just ready for a change. So first things first, do you really need to care about LinkedIn in your professional career? The short answer is yep, you really, really, really do. 5 reasons, Google it. 2, networking. 3, career switching. 4, recruiters. And 5, job postings. Did you know that there are a total number of 467 million LinkedIn users? And of this 467 million, 13 million— 133 million actually are from the US. And 86% of recruiters use LinkedIn to find candidates. Not only that, 90% of these recruiters definitely also use LinkedIn for candidate screening. There are 44,000 job applications submitted on LinkedIn every single day. LinkedIn has a total of 106 million active users, and every second, 2 members join LinkedIn. 40 million stories students and recent college graduates are on LinkedIn. 3 million active job listings are on LinkedIn. 44% of LinkedIn users earn more than $75,000 per year. 25 million LinkedIn profiles are viewed by recruiters each day. LinkedIn profiles with photos get 21 times more profile views, and LinkedIn users that list skills on their profiles get 13 times more profile views. So basically, are you convinced that a LinkedIn profile is worth your time? And are you ready to give your profile the makeover it needs to stand out? So let's get to work. It's high time to take, take care of your LinkedIn profile. So basically, don't torture yourself and just leave this boring task to professional LinkedIn profile writers. So how do you get started? I offer a service that goes through your LinkedIn profile with you to identify and improve on the areas where it is not fulfilling its potential. And then I also support you in your goals for your participation on LinkedIn. So if you'd like to inquire about setting up a session, then simply email me at socialmediabosslady@gmail.com. I'll say that again, socialmediabosslady@gmail.com. I will be in touch with, uh, with the pre-session questions to ensure that we make the best use of the time, as well as organize a suitable time For the session. Well, alternatively, if you can't email me, you could just complete the short form via the link below in the episode notes with a couple of lines about, um, what you like your profile to achieve for you, and I will get straight back to you. So this is Social Media Boss Lady signing out, and I will see you very soon. Hey, yes, and we're back and, um, still continuing on with how to develop a marketing system. Initially, just before the break, we talked about to be able to avoid and escape successful accidents that business owners and sales professionals find themselves in, you need to have reliable, predictable, consistent systems that affordably and efficiently provide abundant quantities of quality prospects, customers, and clients. And from that definition, I'm just going to highlight a few pointers. So basically, I'll be focusing on affordability. I'll be focusing on efficiency. And I'll be focusing on quantity/quality, basically. Okay, so, um, in terms of affordability, now your marketing systems must deliver profitable results. You have to know what a customer is worth to you, and then when you know what a customer is worth to you, you then decide what you're reasonably willing to invest to acquire one. And once you decide that, You then build systems that work within that limit. Realize that there is no free lunch. Okay, so if a customer is worth, say, $1,000 to you, and you as a business owner, as a sales professional, are willing to spend just $10— that's like $990 less— I'd have to say this, that you really are foolish. You are a fool, and you might as well exit right now, because that's not, that's not how you build businesses and get independent and get resources and revenue flowing through. Though on the other hand, when you know how much, how much a customer is worth to you and all that, it helps you actually put a stop to waste. I mean, so that you don't just waste your funds excessively in doing a lot of mass marketing and it's not producing results. But the fact is What I need to stress is that I would recommend that as a business owner, as, as a sales professional, whatever it is that you're doing when it comes to your marketing systems, you need to go into great depth about knowing customer value and other metrics that even your regular accountant wouldn't use. But as a business owner, you should know all these things. Okay, so that's what I'll talk about in terms of your affordability. Now, in terms of efficiency, now your systems, your marketing systems must be targeted. You can't do mass marketing. I would not advise that. It must be targeted to reach only those people most likely to pay or most likely to buy. And I like to call such people high probability prospects, because if you don't have this shift in your thinking process, you'd really never achieve consistent affordability. I mean, one huge benefit really that marketing systems give to you is time efficiency. Because the system puts together the work of you selling and developing a customer or client that you can put up on autopilot through letters, websites, all that. And more of your time really gets invested only in the highest value functions. So you make— with a marketing system, you tend to make more money from less time. So with a system, you are spending less time. Well, your time basically, it's really more— it's more efficiently used into higher, um, productivity use. Well, things basically that are more productive for your business. Okay, and now with the aspect of, um, quality, uh, or quantity really. So whatever income goal, um, that you have as a business, it, um, detects— it detects a certain quality of leads or prospect or customer flow which definitely would require a certain amount of investment from you. Okay. So as a business, you— as a business owner, you need to know these numbers as they presently work in your business. Now, by improving the quality of both the prospects that you selected and reach and how you communicate with them, you can actually change, um, these numbers for the better. I mean You're, you're targeting less people, but you're getting more commitment financially from them because you are targeting the people that are most likely to buy. So next thing we'll be talking about would be the key elements of a marketing system, but there's just one more I'm gonna take a short break and, uh, I'll see you guys right after that. Okay, don't go anywhere. Believe it or not, there is definitely a right way and a wrong way to do social media. I mean, do you know all the benefits of consistently posting? I mean, without spending all day doing it? Here's what the wrong way looks like. You spend hours researching the competition, what they say, how often they post, etc. You spend more hours figuring out what to say. You spend the time and/or money to create articles, graphics, and more content to share. You post on all your social media channels, and after spending so much time on social, you still have to attend to other parts of your business. Not to mention you still have to get clients. What's worse, not being consistent, not having a strong presence, and not having relevant messaging can actually hurt your business. But here's the real problem: too often it's not just practical for small business owners, marketers, and entrepreneurs with limited time and resources to fully maximize their social media because Social media takes consistency and frankly a lot of work. So if you're interested in learning how to master social media and automate it so that you can receive the maximum benefits without sacrificing your time, click here on the link in the episode notes to join me at Marketing Tactics for Entrepreneurs, either the Facebook group or the LinkedIn group. And last but not least, you also learn how to automate this entire system so that you barely have to lift a finger. This is extremely helpful for you if you ever find yourself struggling to keep up with social media and stay consistent. See you there. Okay, and we're back, and it's to talk about the key elements of a marketing system. Now, there are 7 key elements, and I'm just gonna run through all 7 and then take them one by one so that we can have a clearer and better understanding of what they are. Number 1 is A selected group of prospects. 2 is appropriate media for best reaching these prospects. 3 is a compelling message of strong interest to your chosen prospects. 4 is an, an irresistible offer. 5 is a means of response and capture. 6 is multi-step short-term follow-up. And 7, but last but not the least, is maintenance follow-up of, of unconverted leads. Okay, so I'm going to take it one by one. Now, when we're talking about a selected group of prospects, this is what we refer to as a target market or target audience or ideal client or ideal customer. One thing you should note here is that the better the selection, the better the results that you get. So if you have to drill down to the barest minimum As narrow as you could get, it's fine. Okay, number 2, which would be appropriate media for best reaching those prospects? For some, it might be direct mail— that's writing to them directly— or for some, it might be a big postcard. For some, might be a personal letter in an envelope. For some, it might be email. Some, it might be advertising either in the newspaper, journal, or magazine. Or running social media ads, there's not really any good or bad media per se. The question is always, how can we best cut through clutter and gain the attention of these particular prospects? And almost as always, you would want to avoid one-shot kind of marketing in favor of a sequence. So often, most times, you tend to use more than one media when you're trying to reach these prospects. So it could be a combination of direct mail, emails, postcards, personal letters, advertising, all that. So there's no good or bad media. You just need to know how best you can reach the attention and grab the attention of this particular prospects. 3 would be a compelling message of strong interest to your chosen prospects. So you've selected your audience, you have the appropriate media, now the message. That's the market, the message, and the media. Okay, well, the— in this case, it's the market, the media, now it's the message. Now, so basically, get away from all these big, broad, sloppy, one-size-fits-all marketing messages. And stop talking so much about your products and services and start more talking— more rather talking more about your prospects' interests, their desires, their fears, their frustrations. That's the only way you can call out to them. Stop bragging about you and start bragging about them. Okay, now the next would be an irresistible offer. So basically all these are key elements of your marketing system. Okay. An irresistible offer. So in getting new prospects to step forward, indicate interest, and give you permission and invitation to sell to them, it's often really done by creating and offering information— information relevant or relevant information to— of what you sell, and it should be of interest to the prospects. Okay. So it has to be something irresistible that they are willing to give you their names, their email addresses. Some people are giving their phone numbers. Some people will give you their addresses so that you can contact them. Okay, so create an irresistible offer. All right, uh, 5 would be a means of response and capture. So basically here, interested— I like, I call them the high probability prospects. They would need very easy ways to respond. So you may probably use your regular phone number that they can easily reach you, or you could drive them to a website, or however it is that you want to do, however it is that you want, whatever means that you're going to use to get response from the people and capture their information. It should be very easy, non-threatening, and it's— it should just be an easy process for them to drop their contact information and even to be able to reach you, if either through social media or if it's through your phone lines or sending an email. But it should be easy. 6 would be a multi-step short-term follow-up. Now, um, whichever way you're going to use to capture the information or the— yeah, your contacts, your prospects' contact information, um, you should also have attached to it like another irresistible offer tied to the next step you want the prospect to take. So maybe you want them to schedule like an appointment with you or take a free stroll down to your office or to your storeroom or to your showroom. So basically there'd be like a series of follow-up touches or steps either by email or by mail or by phone, and probably you attach these follow-up touches or these follow-up steps to maybe like— and so let's say for instance you are doing a promo that ends in 3 days and you're like, okay, for you to be able to benefit from this promotional offer or discount that we are having, you need to either, um, schedule an appointment or walk down walk, walk in into our store or, um, drop an email or do an action to be able to benefit from, yes, the promotion that you're giving. Okay, I don't know if that confuses you or anything, but if it does confuse you, just put, put, um, a comment in the comment section and let me know, and then I'll explain it further. But basically, once prospects give you their contact information, you should follow that up with a secondary irresistible offer that probably is attached with like maybe an expiration date. Like, okay, so in the next 3 days we're stopping this, but if you want to take— if you want to, um, be, uh, if you want to partake of this offer, um, within the next 3 days. Either maybe you walk into the store or call our phone lines or whatever it is, or indicate interest. Okay, and then last but not the least, which is maintenance follow-up of unconverted leads. Now, people who do not really respond immediately within your first few weeks of intense follow-up may have many reasons for slowly responding. So in this case here, there— well, there is unconverted money in this case here. So the fact is that these people should continue to hear from you once or several times a month until they transition into buyers. So basically, these are just the key elements of a marketing system. I, I did not want to go too in-depth into it. If not, I'm sure a lot of you would be swimming right now in confusion because sometimes it's good when you can actually see what you're hearing. Okay, so with these key elements, the 7, which are a group of— a selected group of prospects, appropriate media for reaching these prospects, a compelling message of strong interest to your prospects, an irresistible offer, a means of response and capture, and Multi-step short-term follow-up, and then maintenance follow-up of unconverted leads. So this is a Rome that isn't built in a day system for most businesses. You definitely might be too quick to— or too quick to think, or be tempted to think that this sounds too complicated, or it's like too much work, or it's not well suited for your business. But the fact is that this is the path to liberty. So it shouldn't be brain-dead easy or child's play simple. And when I mean the path to liberty, what I mean is that this and only this can transform a business. And yes, any kind of business. So from those random acts and erratic results of endless repetitive manual labor of cold prospecting or wasteful advertising to a business that's running on a system, a system that's reliable, that's predictable, and that's consistently bringing in quality prospects, customers, and clients. So what you need to do really is that All these key elements that I just told you, you need to keep all this in mind and then begin to check through your business, through your marketing, if you have any of this in place. And then the next thing you will need to do is take full advantage of every single training or podcast episode that the marketing tactic for entrepreneurs, um, brings out for you to be able to know how much on track you are in reaching your goals. So basically, that's it for today, um, on how to develop a marketing system. It wasn't the best of episodes. But yes, it's a very, very serious one. Don't worry, we'll try and make the other ones a little bit more playful, a little bit more fun. But sometimes we need to be serious, you know, and all that. So this is Social Media Boss Lady on Marketing Tactics for Entrepreneurs signing out, and I will see you guys on the next episode. And stay tuned, really, because in our upcoming episodes we're gonna be springing up surprises little by little by little by little. And So this is she signing out, and I'll see you guys. Love you all. Take care. Bye. Bye.
