Why Facebook ads matter more now
31 Dec 2020 · 19 min
In this holiday‑season podcast episode, host Ruth Kusemiju (Social Media Boss Lady) explains why Facebook advertising remains essential for businesses and outlines a practical three‑phase budget framework to generate leads cost‑effectively. She describes the testing phase (spending roughly $1,000 over 3‑5 days on 10‑20 ad sets at $20 per day), the action phase (turning off under‑performing ads and scaling the best‑performing ones based on cost‑per‑lead), and the split‑testing phase (continually testing new creatives, angles, offers, and lead magnets every 3‑5 days). Ruth then highlights three core pillars that determine ad success: strategy (audience targeting, funnel sequencing, custom audiences), messaging (hooks, copy, creative), and analysis (device performance, metrics). She advises both DIY advertisers and those who outsource to apply these steps, and offers a consultation service for deeper strategy, messaging, and analytics support. The episode concludes with a brief segment on the professional value of LinkedIn, presenting key usage statistics and urging listeners to optimize their LinkedIn profiles. Throughout, Ruth maintains an instructional, conversational tone, encouraging listeners to act and share the episode.

Hi, this is Social Media Boss Lady on another episode of Marketing Tactics for Entrepreneurs, and we are in the season holidays. It's well, it's past Christmas actually already, and the year is winding down, and I. I still definitely have 1 or 2 more episodes to shoot out before we step into 2021. So this is the first of the 2 episodes, and probably tomorrow I'll do the second one just to close out the year officially. Okay, so, uh, today, um, I decided to talk, uh, just a little bit about, um, Facebook advertising. And I know that as businesses in various aspects, we definitely are involved in one or two or a couple of platforms where we try to publicize our products, our services, things that we do. I'm trying to get some qualified leads and customers just to create that brand awareness and let people be aware of who we are, what we do, what we stand for, and how we can help them to add solutions to their problems. Now, um, one word of caution though that if you really as a business are not utilizing Facebook advertising or you don't have, um, Facebook ads that convert, um, you probably are cheating yourself out of, um, let me use the word limitless income. And basically you honestly really don't need a product to benefit from Facebook advertising. Yeah, so because if you're looking to start creating a Facebook following in preparation for your product or your service, you can start using Facebook ads. Even before the product or the service comes out, you can start using Facebook ads to create that community. And I'm sure you've definitely heard that, um, Facebook ads definitely— I mean, using Facebook advertising is definitely a great channel to generate more leads every single time. But, um, one of the biggest things that I, I have realized that, um, hold a lot of businesses back— not just businesses, business owners who them back from using Facebook ads is not knowing how much Facebook— how much Facebook ads would cost them to be able to generate leads. They don't even know that in the first place. Because then it brings me to wonder, or I mean not just me, but some people might wonder like, so what, what is a good realistic Facebook ads budget, or, or they might be thinking, um, what's the best way to structure, um, the budget of my Facebook ads campaign? Or they might be wondering, how much money does my business actually need to spend, um, with Facebook ads to be able to generate leads, um, every month or each month, depending on how often you run your ads? I mean, these questions are very important. I mean, when they come up in the minds of your prospects or or when they come up in the minds of business owners or entrepreneurs, it's very good to answer these questions because every business is different. The principles still remain the same, but you also need to understand the audience you're dealing with and the product or service you're dealing with and see how you can customize that principle or that strategy to fit that business. So, um, with the right Facebook ads budget strategy, you can actually generate as many leads as you like on demand. You can. But the fact remains that you need to set everything up the right way, and then you need to know how much it will cost you every time you run an ad, whether it's every week, every day, every month, every 2 months, however it is you decide. So what I'm gonna do right now is that I'm gonna go through a simple 3-step strategy that you can use to set up structure your Facebook ads budget correctly whenever you are generating leads on Facebook. Okay, now this 3-step strategy is in 3 phases basically. So the first one is your testing budget, the second is action, and the third is split testing. I'll say that again: testing budget, action, and then split testing. So I'll take it one at a time. I'll just give you, um, headlines so that you can, um, know exactly, um, how each one plays a good role in setting up your Facebook ads budget correctly. Now, your testing budget. Now, it's a good idea to test at least, uh, 10 to 20 Facebook ad sets or ad variations at, um, let's say using at like about at $20 a day for each ad set. Okay, so do this for, uh, about 3 to 5 days. In total, you need to spend about $1,000 in 3 to 5 days for a good testing budget, because the fact that you never know what works. So most times when you are, um, trying to run your ads— this is for like a very good testing budget and a good testing campaign— so when you're trying to run your ads, you have to go through a test phase first to see what works. I know sometimes you might, um, prices might crash. I might tell you dedicate like maybe $500. So, but about— so let's just say roughly about $1,000 in 3 to 5 days for a good testing budget. And that's for the first phase. And for the second phase, which is action— now after the testing phase, you need to know how much— well, you know how much definitely you need to spend on Facebook ads to generate leads, on what you need to spend to generate sales appointments, or what you also need to spend to generate clients. So all you need to do now in this action phase is to turn off your worst performing Facebook ad sets and then leave on the best performing ad sets, that is the ones that generate the most and best leads at the lowest cost per lead. So you might be looking at going through your ad analysis. You may be looking at maybe you could get a lead for as low as 50 cents, you get a lead for as low as a dollar, you get a lead for as low as 15 cents. It depends on your audience. So that's the second phase. Now the third phase is split testing. Now every 3 to 5 days, every 3 to 5 days, it's a good idea to keep testing testing additional ad sets. That is, um, testing additional, like, different ad angles, different creatives, different images, different videos, different offers, different lead magnets, to see if you can find the best, um, uh, or not, not just to justify, but if it's— if to see if you can find another ad combination that gets a better cost per lead. Okay, I know definitely if you're not used to Facebook advertising, all this might seem like, um, strange terminologies to you, but definitely I think I would do a podcast, an episode on this, um, the terminologies of Facebook advertising. That is a mental note, I need to do that one. Okay, so basically, um, in the split testing phase, you need to test additional, um, different ad angles, different, um, ad creatives, different images, different videos, different offers, different lead magnets that, um, can get you a better cost per lead. And if you find a very— a new successful ad set, it'd be good— it'd be a good idea to leave it on and then turn the previous one off. Okay, so basically when you are— when you are, um, in this when you are running a Facebook ad campaign, keep repeating the second phase and the third phase over and over and over, which is the action phase and the split testing phase. That's you knowing the worst performing Facebook ad sets and the best performing ones and turning off the worst ones. And then split testing is that you're having variations of ad sets in different, um, images, different videos, different offers, different lead magnets. So keep repeating phase 2 and 3, and then over time you'll be able to generate more leads at a— at the lowest cost per lead. Now actually, this is one of the best strategies to structure your Facebook ads budget to be able to generate more leads, more sales appointments, and clients each month in your business. Now there are a lot of you that probably run the ads yourself So you could take these tips and then see how you can apply it to your business. For those of you that outsource your advertising, you can talk it over with your, um, agency or whoever it is, your outsourced person. And then obviously they know, they know their onions, so they can definitely give you like a summarized version of how things are working, what ad sets are working, and all that. Okay, so, uh, yeah, so basically that's the simple 3-step strategy. Now there are actually 3 core areas, um, of specialty that can help or hinder your Facebook ads. Now the first area would be your strategy. Now, um, the right ads without a strategy may not work. So even if you're using ad sequencing or you're using funnels or you're probably, probably, probably, you're properly leveraging custom audiences to have a big impact on your results, if you don't have the right strategy for your ads, it just won't work. The second area would be your messaging. Now, too often marketers blame the sales page on— they blame— when they have poor conversions, they usually blame their sales pages. Now, if people abandon your page for some ads and maybe not for other ads, you're likely— you— where you should look at, you should likely explore the message that actually persuaded them to click on that ad. You need to understand how to craft hooks and copy that would convert. So copywriting comes into this portion here. And the fact that once you have a very good strategy and your content is strong, analysis will be the next thing. Okay, so we've talked about, um, your strategy. The next core area would be your messaging. So once you have a good strategy in place and you have good content, next is analysis, okay? And the fact is that knowing if your ads are converting better on either mobile devices or desktops is very, very valuable. Then you should be able to run variations on your best performing ads or your best performing assets on just the different devices. So you need to, you'll be able to analyze whether these ads are running very well on mobile or these ads are running very well on desktop. So this is a very, very short, um, episode. It's just basically this is, well, targeted more at those of us that really run Facebook ads and all that. And if you do not run Facebook ads and definitely would like to get started and you don't know what to do, you don't know how to get started, you don't know how to go about the structure, what you need is that just best thing to do is, is just schedule a consultation, a consultation session with me. And 86% of recruiters use LinkedIn to find candidates. Not only that, 90% of these recruiters definitely also use LinkedIn for candidate screening.
There are 44,000 job applications submitted on LinkedIn every single day. LinkedIn has a total of 106 million active users, and every second, 2 members join LinkedIn. 40 million students and recent college graduates are on LinkedIn. 3 million active job listings are on LinkedIn. 44% of LinkedIn users earn more than $75,000 per year. 25 million LinkedIn profiles are viewed by recruiters each day. LinkedIn profiles with photos get 21 times more profile views, and LinkedIn users that list skills on their profiles get 13 times more profile views.
