essence and structure

A short conversational transcript exploring the balance between 'essence' (sukha) and 'structure' (sthira) in yoga and life. Speakers connect essence↔inspiration and structure↔action, propose that resistance (felt as bodily tension or difficulty initiating action/meditation) signals where balance is needed, and argue for moving into resistance to access flow and deeper personal power.

Some of the concepts that we explore through our embodiment class is the idea of essence and structure. In Sanskrit, it is called sukha and sthira. If we are too focused on the physical body or too much focus on the blissful experience, when you are, like, on a meditative state, we are out of balance. And what is the reflection that in life, those two energies, like essence and structure, could be also translated by, like, inspiration and action. And usually a very powerful way to see what you need a little more is where you experience resistance. So in the body, like if you're doing movement on a yoga mat, I would say, like, when you feel the tension in your body, that's where the essence is meeting the structure. So at the end of the day.
It'S all part of the same thing. It's all one spectrum. But the tension there is a actually showing you, yes, okay, I'm like, I can't move more. Like, I'm not flexible here because I need to invite more of the essence, more of the formless, what has no shape, right? And then in life, if we talk about the idea of, like, action and inspiration, and this is very powerful, like.
We have to move through resistance. So just take a minute and, oh.
Am I a doer? Like, you could be exhausted, but because.
You'Re just used to do that all.
The time, it feels good to you.
So you keep doing, and you might.
Not get all the results that you want, but because you feel that you're being productive, you keep doing it. At the other side, maybe you're just the one that, like, I have my routines and my rituals, and I like to connect for a certain amount of hours. And maybe you're lacking a little bit of the structure, you're lacking a little bit of the doing in your life. So if we want to experience flow, I would say we need to find balance. So where is the resistance for you? Do you do a lot and then it's hard for you to sit down and meditate, or maybe you meditate a.
Lot, and it's hard for you to take action, feel the resistance, sit on that discomfort, and then move to the direction that you would avoid. And when you do that, you tap into a very deep power that resides in you when you decide to move to resistance. And then you get flow, and then you can meditate and you do it but in balance.
