A short, first-person YouTube talk presenting a simple but powerful imagining exercise: answer the prompt "If you could have the life of your dreams, how would that be?" The speaker (Phil Powis) describes how they initially wrote constrained goals that mirrored their current life, then realized the exercise should expand beyond possessions to daily rhythms, waking times, activities, relationships, and feelings. The talk encourages allowing oneself to dream freely, detailing routines and sensations, and frames this as the start of a transformative, joyful journey.

Hi, welcome. It's my pleasure to be here with you sharing this exercise that it's super simple and yet powerful, that has changed my life and it has the potential to change yours too. Before I explain the exercise, I just want to be clear that your life does not need to be bad. You don't need to be struggling to allow yourself to dream even more. The universe is in constant expansion and our lives is in constant expansion. So for me, the dreams are just like the direction of that expansion. So the exercise I read before, it's if you just need to answer the question, if you could have the life of your dreams, and you can, and this is a very important part, if you could have the life of your dreams and you can, how would that be? So I want to share my experience with you because at the beginning, when I first answered this question, I was actually adapting the reality that I was living. And I had a great life, a nice house, a nice job, a life that I was happy living. But I didn't realize that. I had a feeling that I had more to experience than that. But at the time, I was just adapting. So. So, yeah, I'm going to improve the house that I am right now. I'm going to maybe get a promotion. And that was what I was writing down. That was the life of my dreams. And it took me a while to open my mind and realize that. I'm like, oh, I'm actually just adapting because I'm so stuck in my belief system that I don't believe I can have more. But then I'm like, but this is just an exercise. Like, why am I limiting myself to. To what I currently have? If I could have the life of my dreams, would I be living? Would I be having the routine? And it's not only about having is the rhythm of your life. Would you wake up at the same time? Would you maybe wake up later or maybe earlier? Would you have more exercises? Would you like to have more experiences? Maybe you would like to travel more, Maybe you would like to travel less and stay more time, spend more time with their families. So all of those things, it's not only about having. And having is totally fine, but it's like how the routine of my dreams, like, would feel. How would it be? So just bringing the details to that, it's very powerful. It took me a while to realize I was writing this exercise very often, until a day I'm like, oh, yes. And I realized. And it was a bit painful because I realized that I'm like, yes. If I could, actually, if. If I had a choice, I wouldn't be living in this house, I wouldn't be working at this place, I wouldn't be waking up at this time of the day. So it shocked me because it was a good life, and yet I would dream something totally different. And I feel that was the beginning of my journey. So this exercise has the ability or has the potential to connect you to a greater journey, a very fun one, if you allow it. And I'm very excited for you because it's fun, it's nice, it feels good to dream. So allow yourself to just go wild and speak from your heart.
