Hey everybody, and welcome to This Moved Me, a podcast about creating talks that move the world. With me, your host, Sally Koering Zimney. Together with some fabulous guests, we will have a casual conversation about the art of public speaking, because a good talk can move the world, and it'll be fun. Yeah, I would think making alien cows meaningful. That's not a small task. I love your giggle. Wow. Oh my gosh, so we're waiting for everybody to figure out the alphabet. Good day, movers. It's gonna be a good day. You know why? Because it's a great day to have a great day. I read that somewhere. In fact, I got that as a plaque from my friend for my 40th birthday. That's right, I'm 40. I'm 40 now, and the last time you heard me, I wasn't 40. Do I sound different? It could be because this is, I think, the first time I'm talking today, and I didn't warm up my voice at all. So anyway, here I am. Woohoo! So excited to be back with you. Short hiatus there while I got the little people off and going at school. Which, uh, was only somewhat traumatic. My oldest started middle school and it was like, oh my gosh, she was scared. I was scared because she was scared, and I was trying not to like project all my middle school anxieties and memories onto her. But oh my gosh, she's had the best week. I'm so thrilled about that. And, um, if you follow me on Facebook, then you know I was I don't know, just very reflective and I don't know, I kept crying all week. I was crying just that really that one Tuesday, not all week, but that whole Tuesday I was kind of a mess. But, and that's kind of unusual for me. Usually I'm just like, yep, go to school, have fun, bye-bye, time to go. I'm like so anxious to get some more work done and get to a routine, but Anyway, I— Tuesday. Off she went. It was great. It was great. So, I want to— good grief. Here, clap, then I know where the cut is. So, I'm super pumped. I say that every time, but usually if I'm pulling myself up to the mic, it's because I'm pumped about something, and I'm so excited because you guys I'm finally birthing some things that I have been working on. That's maybe a gross metaphor, but, but it's true. That's exactly what I'm doing. I'm bringing things to life. That's creativity for you. And I want to share with you two of those exciting things. So first, especially if you are local here in the Twin Cities, November 17th, my husband Andy and I are going to be putting on a conference and we're gonna call it the Changemakers Lab, and it is for leaders, creative people, changemakers, entrepreneurs, anybody whose mission is focused on making the world better, making some kind of change, and hopefully that's a lot of people. And I'm gonna have Andy on the show soon to tell you more about what he is up to because he's doing some really fantastic, interesting things. He's taking a huge leap This is a big leap for our family, but he's leaving Youth Frontiers as the COO and going off and starting his own venture. That's right, we both are going to have our own venture. What? We might be insane, but we're doing it anyway. And honestly, I'm not at all panicked about it. I think it's going to be great because Andy's brilliant. It's just a matter of time until more people figure that out. And if you've ever worked with him or talked with him, then it becomes clear and evident really quickly. So it's going to be great. But we are going to start— he's done a few kind of individual workshops, and I thought, let's bring our stuff together and bring our audiences together. So November 17th, I don't have a lot more details for you on that, but if If you're in the Twin Cities and you're interested in seeing something from me, I'm gonna be talking about how we can use our voice for change, and Andy is gonna be talking about leadership and creativity and how we can be doing more of the work that matters and less of the stuff that doesn't. So that's pretty essential for us as leaders. So November 17th, more info on that soon. And then, oh my gosh, this next thing I'm so excited to tell you about. December 1st and 2nd, I am hosting an inaugural, hopefully not the last, but we'll see how, what the interest is, if people are interested in doing this. I'm hoping that you are. I'm looking for 5 people, just 5, and 5 people who have a talk that they want to make better, that maybe they feel like, ah, I just feel like there's more I could be doing here. This isn't as good as it could be, I'm not sure what to do next, or maybe you're writing a new talk and it's almost done but you just would love some help launching it and getting it kicked off, then I want to welcome you to the Movers Lab. And this is gonna be a 2-day retreat at my parents' beautiful, beautiful cabin. We call it a cabin but it's really a lake home. It's going to be 2 days of creativity, of connection, laughter, fun. There's gonna be some challenge. You'll get one-on-one coaching with me. You'll get group feedback from the small group of people that will be there. You will walk away feeling connected to this group of people who are also in the process of creating talks that move the world. So if this is something that intrigues you even a little bit, I wanna know. Send me an email, info at, oh my gosh, I don't know my email address, info@thismovedme.com. Send me an email so that I can keep you in the loop as details come out, and I'll be saying more about this soon, but that is my uber uber important news that I have for you on that. I really, this is a dream that I've had for a long time, and I wasn't sure exactly what form it would take, but I had this vision like last April maybe, and it came to me literally. I was, I was working on something and I was like, oh, I know what I need to do. Because I love coaching so, so much, and small group coaching can be so incredibly powerful because it creates a space where we are vulnerable, where we take really good risks, where we fall on our face and experience what it's like to get back up together. And so it creates a really intense connection. And so if you're somebody especially who is willing to step into that arena with the support— I like— this would be a supportive group that is really important to me and that's who I am too, then this could be great. Let me know. I only have 5 spots for this first one. So if you are interested, let me know right away. Okay? I'm looking forward to hearing from everybody on that and more details to come as I figure them out. Yay! Okay. And I should tell you, Yeah, whatever, more details. If you're interested, let me know. Blah blah blah. Okay, so today, today is a mini Moved Me about how we can deal with the technical glitches that are part and parcel to creating a presentation. And if you have ever been up in front of a group, then you know, man, there's So much that's unknown and every situation is different and every hookup's a little bit different and what's the sound like and oh my gosh, there are so many things that we can't control when we walk into that situation. But there are things that we can control and I always feel a little overwhelmed, a little bit like, you know, as the computers continue to evolve and I've got so many apps and programs and things automatically notify me all the time now and I'm like, what? And there's nothing worse than trying to create this time and space when you're up in front of an audience and then something dings. Oh, it's just the worst and it's embarrassing and it can make you look like you don't know what you're doing. Now, in some cases, I don't know what I'm doing, but most of the time I do, but I just didn't know that there's a thing I've gotta turn off. And the great thing is my husband Andy is super, super techie. So sometimes I'll just hand him my computer and say, "Can you make sure it's not gonna beep at the wrong time or turn off or the screensaver is gonna come up?" Whatever it might be. And that list continues to evolve and change. So I asked him to— so that I can do this for myself and be a big girl and not depend on him because he's not always gonna be there— to create a cheat sheet for me, which he did, and I've turned it into something you can download. So especially this is a Mac user cheat sheet because we are Mac users. Sorry, I cannot, I really, I don't understand PC. If you're doing a presentation, you have PCs, I just like, I know you're out there and I love you and I really, I have respect for you as a human being, but I just like can't imagine creating a presentation on a PC. I'm that person right now, I'm sorry. But this cheat sheet is all about how you can walk through preparation for your computer, on your Mac computer, so that things run smoothly on your next presentation. Man, this is valuable. This is like really uber important thing, okay? So if you want to download this cheat sheet, cheat sheet, then you go to my website and you will see this blog post, uh, the show notes for this episode called How to Present Without a Technical Glitch. And in that blog post is a cheat sheet that you can download if you want it, and then that'd be awesome. Hopefully it's helpful for you because I like— I don't— I, you know, it's essential for me as I'm preparing 'Cause there's so many little things. And this is probably not fully comprehensive 'cause things continue to change, but I think this is a great place to start and maybe we'll keep evolving it. And if you think there's something we should add, let me know and we will add it. We'll keep it going and we'll include it in our freebie download section of the website 'cause that section's getting big and it's gonna turn into an entire page of resources. With lots of freebies. So if you haven't been to the website, you should go check that out, blissmoveme.com. Okay. Yes, I've got one more thing to tell you before I go. This has been kind of a talky talky catch-up episode, but one more thing I wanna tell you is every month, as you know, I do a drawing for free coaching, and the lucky winner this week is a woman named Barbara Churchill. And you know what's so cool is she's local. And I didn't know this, but I haven't talked with her yet. I just looked at her website and she does some amazing work about leadership, especially for women and how to find balance. And she's already doing some speaking. So I'm really excited to work with you, Barbara. I hope you're listening. And I did send you an email the other day. We will find some time and connect. And if that's something that you would be interested in, you get an hour of my time. And in that hour, hopefully I can give you some clarity on maybe next steps or give some feedback on a talk or something that you're working on, a message perhaps that you're developing for a meeting you're leading, or just thinking through some creative ideas, whatever, whatever you got going on. You could— hour of my time, I'd love to see how I can help. So it's just a way that I want to give back to the people who are listening and connect with you there. So if that's something that you're interested in signing up for, for this drawing, then head over to the website, and if you scroll down, just under that first image is a little sign-up box. It says sign up for drawing for free coaching. So that'd be great. I'd love to see those roll in because it tells me that there's a lot going on out there, that you guys are creating amazing things, and that is exciting. For me and super fun to be a part of it even in this really small way. Okay, all good with me. Uh, this moved me, you guys. So many things happening that, uh, I, I just wanted to catch you up. I don't know if I should call this like— it's technically about the technical glitch, but really I've just kind of talked at you. That's okay! Fun to just spend some time together— you know? Create good... Alright! Hope you guys are having an awesome week and stay in touch; reach out! Love to hear from ya' Check yo later! This moved me! What is moving YOU people of the world?! I wanna hear it! Do do da dee doo dooo! It was Ellie! Ow! I'm all loopy this morning— Okay bye-bye! Bye-bye-bye-bye-bye! Bye-bye-bye-bye!
