136: MMM - On Quick Coaching!
20 Feb 2017 · 15 min
In this solo mini‑episode of the This Moved Me podcast, host Sally Koering Zimney announces a new service called “Quick Coaching.” She explains why she created it – many speakers want targeted feedback but can’t afford or commit to a full‑scale coaching partnership. Sally outlines the Quick Coaching workflow: a speaker submits a video of their talk and a brief questionnaire; she reviews the material, writes a detailed PDF of notes, records a short video walk‑through of the feedback, curates additional resources, and then offers 30 days of email support for follow‑up questions. She shares the results of a beta test, quoting a testimonial that highlights her empathy and the value speakers received. Sally opens 4–5 spots per month, sets an introductory price of $250 (discounted to $229 for email subscribers), and directs listeners to the sign‑up page at thismovedme.com/tmm-quick-coaching. The episode ends with an enthusiastic call‑to‑action encouraging listeners to enroll and experience the benefits of concise, affordable coaching.

Hey everybody, and welcome to This Moved Me, a podcast about creating talks that move the world. With me, your host, Sally Koering Zimney. Together with some fabulous guests, we will have a casual conversation about the art of public speaking. Because a good talk can move the world. And it'll be fun. Yeah, I would think making alien cows meaningful. That's not a small task. I love your giggle. Wow. Oh my gosh, so we're waiting for everybody to figure out the alphabet. Hey movers, I am so excited, I'm so excited, I'm making up a song, I'm so excited. Sally— I, I, I, um, I gotta stop that. I am not a singer, but I do sing, which sometimes isn't that different from being a speaker who speaks but doesn't consider themselves a speaker for whatever reason. Um, and yeah, there are gradations of experience, so maybe I just need to embrace the fact if I'm going to sing on into a microphone that goes out all over the world. Maybe I should just embrace it. Maybe you are a singer, Sally. Hmm, still not comfortable calling myself a singer. Okay, my friends, what are we doing here today? Today is another mini Moved Me. I know we've had a handful of mini Moved Me's recently. That's because I really enjoy doing them, and I think it's kind of nice to break up the interviews. I've had some amazing interviews recently. Jan Schulting last week, and the getting the content into your body, how we do that, that was this past week as well. And we had Jason Jagard on, some really amazing conversations, I know. But today, I really wanna talk with you about this this thing that I'm launching today. Oh my gosh, I'm singing again. I can't help it. It's like my life is kind of like living in a musical, right? Where there's so much emotion, it just sort of bubbles over into song. Whoa, that's— take some deep breaths, Sally. Take some deep breaths. Okay, here's the deal. I am launching this program today, on Monday. February, whew, I gotta commit to it if I'm gonna say this out loud. February 20th, it's President's Day. Huh, interesting. Everybody's got the day off, perfect timing. I call it quick coaching. All right, and here is the dealio. As a podcast host, I often get people reaching out to me asking if I would be willing to look at their talk. And oh my gosh, I am so honored by that. It is such a privilege for people to invite you in to look at their talk. I totally understand that that is not necessarily an easy thing to do, and there's— man, there is bravery and courage involved in that. Unless you're somebody who has gotten really used to asking for feedback and just inviting people into that, most of us don't necessarily say, "Hey, I'd love to hear what you think." "Take a look at my talk and let me know what you think." Most of us, that takes a little bit of pausing. So I'm always so honored and privileged by people who invite me into those moments. I realized the more people asked me to do that, I realized there's a real need here. That there's a lot of people for whom a long-term coaching partnership is just not what they want right now, or it may be an investment that they can't make. Because it is an investment. It's an investment financially, but it's also an investment of time and resources. And I think that process can be really transformative, even for the most experienced speakers. It's not always a doable thing for a lot of reasons, and yet we are out there, we are doing the work, we are speaking, and man, Wouldn't it be nice to get a little bit of guidance, a little bit of mirroring, and some feedback from somebody that you trust, who you know is gonna love you through the process, see the value that you bring, but also share with you ways that you can get better? Because honestly, if we want to be powerful, effective, influential speakers, then the deal is that we have got to ask for feedback. If I were to be working with people one-on-one in a coaching partnership, it costs minimum usually around $1,500 and then goes up. There's so many people doing good work who would like to step into this space with me, um, but don't want to pay that much money. And I get that. Um, so is it possible to get help? This was the question I was asking myself. Is it possible for me to really help people, uh, with bypassing some of the things that I hold dear as a coach, like relationship? Is it possible for me to be an asset and to be of value in somebody's development as a speaker without taking the long road? And so I set out and I asked some people here on the show, I invited some people if they were interested to step up and if they would be willing to share with me a talk and I would try out this process. And here's what they've done. They— a handful of people have sent me a video of their work, video of them giving a talk. They filled out a quick form about the talk and about they themselves as speakers and what they're struggling with and what they could really use some help on. And then I look at the video and I write some notes just like I would do with anybody if I was coaching, and then I come up with a simple plan and say, here are 3 ideas for you to wrestle with as you're working on your talk. And I write up these notes and send it, create a beautiful PDF, and then I turn on the video camera on my computer and I send you a little video sort of explaining the feedback and giving context around it and sharing the why I think this is important and and also all, all of the great things that I see, and generally just giving you your sort of next steps in the playbook for how to improve what you're doing. And then I sent it to people along with some really resources. I've got a slew of resources, so I just kind of pulled together the resources that I think would be most applicable and sent them a big packet. On Google Drive and said, "Here, is this helpful? Like, is this worthwhile? What do you think?" And oh my gosh, I have been so gratified by the response. I was just wowed by how helpful it was. And I'm thrilled. I'm thrilled by that. I'm really excited by that because it means I can help more people and work with more people. And so it just had— kind of has opened up this world. And starting today, I will open up 4, maybe 5 spots a month to become a quick coaching client with me. What does that mean? That means that if you go to my website and you sign up to become one of my kit quick coaching clients, I will, uh, we'll do exactly what I just said. You'll send me a talk. I'll send you some feedback and a bunch of resources, and then we'll have 30 days in which I can be kind of an email resource contact for you as you process the notes I give you, process the feedback, ask for clarification, say, you know, I tried that, this felt weird, any other ideas, whatever it might be. And then then you get to take the next step in your speaking journey. And I just want to tell you, I think, I think there's something here. Like, I was kind of hoping, I was hoping there was something here, but I've just gotten some really amazing feedback on the feedback. So here are some of the things that people said. I hope this doesn't sound like I'm bragging, but I really, I just want you to understand how valuable I think this can be. One of my beta testers said, "Sally loves speakers. She oozes empathy for the speaker and passion for the craft. She tells the truth in love and empowers her speakers with the belief they can grow. I finished my video excited to start prepping my next talk." I was really, really moved by that because I do, I love speakers. I was like, you got that! You felt that in my video! How cool is that? It was really, that meant a lot to me. I'm really excited about this, if you can't tell. I'm excited and willing to spend a few minutes talking about it on my show in which I try not to talk about myself. I spend a lot of time on this show really holding up other people and I love that. That's really important to me. But I also wanted to take a few minutes and spend some time talking not about me, but about this service and about what I hope to be doing for more people. So this quick coaching is, I think, a really cool opportunity for any of you who are out there who are just feeling a little alone in your talk development. Because we create this work and then we go out there and we're really developing this on our own. It can be such a solo venture, and this is a chance for you to invite somebody else into this. And if you trust my point of view and trust that I will approach this thoughtfully, which I will, um, maybe this is a great opportunity for you to invite somebody else into the process of creating and improving our work. So So if that is any of you, and I'm hoping that it is, uh, here's what I want you to do. I want you to go over to my quick coaching website. It's called thismovedme.com/tmm-quick-coaching. TMM-quick-coaching. When you get there, you will, um, see a big picture of my face. And then scroll down and at the very bottom you can sign up. And one final thing, you're probably wondering how much does this cost? I'm pricing this starting intro price. I'm starting at $250. So my hope is that with this little chunk of time, we can, you can get some really powerful ahas and really tactical strategies for continuing to improve your work, which I think is worth $250. So if you are one of my email subscribers, you get a special discount, and I will send that discount through my email. So if you are one of my email subscribers, you get a special discount on the quick coaching. Instead of $249— is really what it costs, $249— it'd be $229. So that's a deal. So if you're not on my email list yet, head over to the website and there's lots of different places you can sign up, and I would be super excited about that too.
