Well, happy 2020, Movers! Oh my gosh, it's been too long, so long since last we have hung out here over the podcast waves. Are they waves? I don't know what to call the digital interwebs. I don't know. But it's been a while since we have hung out here together, and I am so excited to be back, truly. This morning I recorded an episode with Julian Treasure, and that Just felt amazing. I haven't done an interview episode in quite a long time, so it felt great. It was great to connect with Julian again. He was on the show a few years ago, so it was great to have him back. And he's got some, of course, brilliant— he's brilliant and so thoughtful, and it was very zen. And I found myself being very zen in the conversation, which is part of what we talked about, kind of that feedback loop. Loop that happens between audience and speaker. So I'm very excited to share that episode with you coming up soon, but I feel I owe you an explanation about why things have been so quiet. Like, 2019, a year ago, I said to all of you, 2019 is the year of joy, and I want to bring more joy to my speaking and more joy to my work. And I have to say, I did okay at that. Uh, not super great because at some point in the year I decided to make some really big changes that are coming up here in 2020. And so for the last 6 months I've really had my head down. I'm really working hard on the inside of the business so that I can provide more for you coming up. So outside of— you haven't seen much from me on the podcast, I haven't been super present on social media because I'm super heads down. So last year, joy, I didn't— I don't feel like I brought that to fruition, but I have been doing some really, really important work ultimately for you to help you transform your approach to public speaking, really so that you can bring more joy to your speaking as you are heading out into the world. So there are some big changes coming, coming in 2020 about growing my impact so that you can grow your influence, grow your audience, reach more people, help you to create more talks that will move this world. So changemakers, I am here for you, and there are some really exciting things coming. So It's that time of year where I share with you my word for the year. As I said, last year it was joy, but this year, given everything that is coming, the word that kept bubbling up for me was like, pay attention, Sally, this is the word, is the word leap. To leap. Okay. And leaping to me means taking more action. It means showing up more consistently. Hello, podcast. It means taking risks. You cannot leap without risk. It means really, it brings joy back onto the map for me because I think without joy it's just kind of jumping, which is different. Leaping is different than jumping. Leaping to me means you are jumping with joy. There— it's different. I love— I mean, that feeling of leap, there's joy in that, which is part of the reason why I love it. And importantly, leaping to me also means a willingness to fail and to fail faster, to just go for it, right? Just go and do and to enjoy the leap. Okay, so that is what my year is gonna be. About, and it's pushing me. The last 6 months have really pushed me and are challenging me in some awesome ways, and I cannot wait to share more with you about the process and about what's coming, but it's not quite time yet. So, uh, I want to, between now and then, share why I think leaping is going to be important for you this year too. 2020 is gonna be about the leap. Over and over again, I hear my speakers say things to me like, "Thank you for the nudge, 'cause I'm just not getting out there enough, and I need to get out there more, and I'm not speaking up, and I— there's something that's holding me back. I'm struggling with some self-doubt and just—" feeling that sense of standing on the edge but not going for it. And part of what I love to do as a coach is to help people take bigger leaps in their speaking, to not think small but to think big, to move beyond the expected, because boring, no thank you. To help people tell the story that they have been secretly thinking about but they're just not not sure if that's a story they should be sharing, to get you to apply for that TEDx Talk, to reach out to that event coordinator, to send that email, to show up online, to record that video, to share your voice. So 2020, baby, we are gonna be taking bigger leaps together. And importantly, we've got to bring joy into that leap. Otherwise, it's just a scary jump. No thank you. There is joy embedded into the leap. And that's super important because audiences want joy. We need more joy in our lives too. So even when it's a muddle and it's a big unknown, I think that's what life is really all about. The fullness of that experience, the risk, and the reward, or the risk and the failure and the getting back up again. So as speakers, we are doing our jobs when our talks reflect the depth and the courage and the humanity and the fullness of our lives. So we are gonna leap this year. And my challenge for each of you in 2020 is to leap with me, to take bigger, leaps. Okay? So to support you in that effort and to keep me accountable in my own leaping, okay, this is a win-win. It's gonna keep me leaping and it's gonna keep you leaping. Over the next few weeks, I'm gonna be doing a short series here on the podcast about leaping in our speaking. Oh my gosh, that is kind of hard to say. Say that 5 times fast. Leaping in our speaking. Leaping, speaking, leaping, speaking. Okay, so to start us off today, here's what I want us to do. We're gonna commit together. I want you to hop over on social, either Facebook or Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, whatever. I don't care. I'm out there, just find me. Make sure that we're connected, but then I want you to commit yourself to the leap by signing yourself to the challenge. All you have to do to do this is to comment on the post. Right? To not just observe and think about it, but to put your name on the line. To sign your name to it by commenting and saying, "I'm going to leap." Okay? So that's all you have to do. "I'm gonna leap." "I'm leapin' with you, Sally." "Let's leap." Okay? Something like that. "Let's leap." I like that. That's super simple. "Let's leap." Okay? Once I know that you're gonna do that, right, you're gonna comment right now, then, then you and I, I see you, I got you, all right? We're gonna leap together. So I, I'll give you some love, I'll make sure you feel supported in that journey, but I won't know that you are committing to leaping until you do that. And we've gotta do it. Our audiences need us to do that. Our ideas need us to leap. This movement that we are passionate about, the message that is drawing you out front, needs you to take a bigger leap this year. So let's leap together. I'm with you. Okay. I love it. I see you. Join me in that challenge. Comment over on a leaping post by signing your name to it. Say, "Let's leap, Sally. I got this. I'm gonna leap. Oh yeah." Awesome. Okay, so I will see you next week for the second in the series all about leaping, and it's gonna be about using risk as your compass in the leap. That's gonna be good. I will see you over there, my movers. Until then, have a great week, and I cannot wait to leap with you in 2020. Let's do it! It matters. And I'm with you. Hey movers, it's Sally Koering Zimney, and I am so grateful that you listen to the show and that you are staying connected here on This Moved Me. And if you are not yet a subscriber to this podcast, you know that that would be awesome, right? Because you don't want to miss anything. It's been quiet here in 2019, but 2020, big things are coming and I don't want you to miss it. So if you haven't yet hit that subscribe button, and if you haven't yet left a rating or review for This Moved Me, now is the time to do it because things are growing and changing and I want more people to discover these resources. We need more speakers speaking with authenticity, clarity, courage, and connection. So Let's do it. I'd love it. I appreciate it, and it means that more people are gonna be sharing these ideas. Let's do it. Okay, thanks so much. See you soon. Check you later. How else can I say goodbye? This is moving me. What's moving you? Yeah.
