In this solo podcast episode, Sally Z (host of Be Moved) clarifies what a signature talk is, why it matters for speakers, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders, and how it serves as a versatile, scalable pillar for all of a creator’s content. She explains that a signature talk is a unique, idea‑driven presentation—often in the style of a TED Talk—that only the speaker can authentically deliver. While professional speakers may have multiple signature talks, every entrepreneur needs at least one to establish expertise, attract speaking opportunities, and amplify their movement. Sally warns against overly polished, “autopilot” talks that lack humanity, urging listeners to personalize and contextualize their signature talk for each platform (podcasts, webinars, workshops, etc.). She notes that the current lull in live events provides an ideal window to develop this core message. To help listeners, she offers a free “TED Talk Jumpstart Kit” comprising a 3‑minute video training, a PDF workbook with prompts for extracting stories and ideas, and a limited‑time pop‑up group in Movers U (a Mighty Networks community) where she will host live Q&A and share a masterclass interview with a TED Talk expert. Listeners are invited to sign up at bmoove.com/tedtalk. Sally also teases an upcoming paid Signature Talk course, positioning the free kit as a way to achieve mastery without hiring a coach.

Hey movers, it's Sally Z with Be Moved. Let's go create some talks that will move this world. We're going to talk with amazing speakers, share tips, tricks, resources, and we are going to be moved so that our audience can be moved. This moved me. What is moving You. Hello, my movers! I hope everybody is having a great week. Oh, I was on Zoom recently, and I'm afraid I'm gonna be starting every story with that phrase right there, 'I was on Zoom.' But that's what was happening. I was on Zoom with an entrepreneur recently who said to me, You keep saying signature talk, and I think I know what that means, but I'm not totally sure. So I wanted to get clear with you on what that is, because over the next few weeks we're gonna be talking about why it's such an important time for us to be creating our signature talks and bringing them to life and using them to help amplify our message and our movement. So a signature talk really clearly is a talk built around that one idea that you are known for or want to be known for. It's the talk that nobody else can do because it is so specific to you and your expertise. So sometimes, sometimes signature talks are in the form of TED Talks, right? So when I say a TED Talk, that's a kind of signature talk. Or branded talks, sometimes they're called branded talks, or keynotes, or they get repurposed in all kinds of ways. You might use part of your signature talk in a podcast conversation, in a Creative Mornings talk, and video messages, and coursework that you do, and for sure in your marketing messages, your webinars, your workshops, I mean, it becomes the pillar of your content creation and development as you're out talking with your audience.. But it all really starts with that signature talk. Or I think for these purposes, I'm just gonna shortcut it and call them your TED Talk, right? Because we all know what that is. We all know what a TED Talk is and we know what it means. And the TED Talk approach, and I think this is important, the TED Talk approach is what audiences now expect. And many event planners expect that kind of approach too. So my question for you is, do you have your signature talk? Now, a professional speaker might have 3 or more signature talks that are kind of their go-to, but we all need one. If you're an entrepreneur or a thought leader, a business leader, and you want to build your business and your movement with your message, and you know that speaking is a powerful platform that you want to utilize to move your audience, set you up as an expert and a thought leader? Well, you need a really solid signature talk. Now, maybe this talk is the talk that you can pitch to conferences or other outlets. Maybe it's your TED Talk talk. You're gonna finally get that TEDx talk. Maybe it's the talk that you build and then you pare it down for that 10-minute lunch and learn, or you take virtual on your next summit, or when you're sitting on a panel, you're going to pull out those stories for a podcast or a webinar. Your signature talk is scalable and repeatable. Now, I say repeatable with like a huge caveat because I am not one of those people that believes you just press go, you create your talk, and then you're just on repeat and you show up and it's like autopilot. No thank you. We've all seen those and they are lacking humanity and heart. And it doesn't mean that they're not effective in like the, that one place in your brain where you're like, that person knows what they're doing and that person's a professional. But that's different than moving our audience. And there are a lot of speakers out there who are focused on being polished and professional and not on moving their audience. If we want to move our audience, then we're going to take this repeatable content and we are going to personalize it and set it in a specific context. Now, my guess is that most of you are where I was for a really long time, which is responding to the request as it came to me, building something per request, pulling something together really, really quickly and making it work and not totally loving what I had, but never feeling the kind of mastery over the content that I wanted, versus flipping that switch and having it go the other way. Instead of feeling disjointed in my approach, what I want to do is actually start with your signature talk to build that message first to build your mastery, to build your confidence and your self-trust, then you can go out and place that talk in all these different contexts. And as I am going to talk about next week, this is important. Now is the perfect time to dig in and create your talk. As I'm going to talk about in the next episode. Now is the perfect time to create the signature talk, which seems kind of weird because right now there's not a lot of events happening, but there's tons of message opportunity. And in this space where we might have a little more wiggle room in our schedules than we normally would, it's a perfect time to dig in and start to build this. We're going to talk about that more in the next episode. But I want to help you in this process of building your signature talk. So here's what I'm gonna be doing. I have created this awesome resource. I'm calling it the TED Talk Jumpstart Kit, and in it are 3 things. There is a 3-minute video training by me, just a tiny little video training with the one essential thing that you need to know before you create your signature talk. The second thing that comes in this kit is a fabulous PDF workbook with some really simple prompts and exercises to help pull out your message, your stories, and your idea. Now, these things are going to change as you continue to work on your talk, but we've got to start here. And then the third thing, which I think is super cool, is I'm doing a pop-up group in Movers U that is so solely focused on helping you find your topic and your signature talk. This is a totally free group. It's limited time group and it's gonna be so great. I can't wait. I think Movers U, this is my community that's over in Mighty Networks, which I'm just gonna sing their praises all I can because I think it's such a cool platform. There's all kinds of ways that we can support each other in there. It's a beautiful platform. I can say that because I didn't design it. It's amazing. Plus, there's just lots of resources in there and community and support. So what I'm gonna be doing in this pop-up group is I'm gonna be going live in there weekly to take your questions. There are resources in there to support you, and I'm gonna be sharing a mastermind interview with a TED Talk guru that has some awesome ahas that will be really key for you in this process. So you can sign up for the TED Talk Jumpstart Kit. All I want you to do is to go to bmoove.com/tedtalk, and you can sign up there, and we'll get you started. So this pop-up group is only gonna be up for about a month, so I want you to take advantage of this time and get in there. Short video training by me, an awesome PDF workbook that'll help draw out what is in you so that you can develop your signature talk. So friends, this is all free because in about a month I'm going to be launching my Signature Talk course, and I've been working on this for a long time. And of course, I have been helping people create their signature talks for, I don't know, 15+ years, a really long time. It's my passion, I know it's my purpose here on this earth, and I cannot wait to download this process to you so you do not have to work with a coach in order to get over the finish line in a way that you feel really excited about and that you trust and that you are just jazzed to get out there. So there's a lot more info on that coming soon, but for now, We've got to make sure that you have your topic and that you are ready to dive in. So this is super amazing. I can't wait. And I hope to see you in there. bmoov.com/tedtalk. This moved me, my friends. What is moving you? I'd love to know.
