Hey movers, it's Sally Z with Be Moved. Let's go create some talks that will move this world. We're going to talk with amazing speakers, share tips, tricks, resources, and we are going to be moved so that our audience can be moved. This moved me. What is moving You. Hello, hello, hello everybody. How are you? I hope doing great. I was just on Instagram overly excited about a pumpkin smoothie cuz it's fall here in Minnesota and I really like the changing of seasons. I really do. Which means of course in the fall I love fires, leaves, and pumpkin flavored everything. So here we are. And, and I love Starbucks, so there was so too much sugar is what I was learning. I was learning, wow, don't get pumpkiny things at Starbucks unless you want to feel like crap later. But Little Bobby approved Flav City. Pumpkin smoothie. Not relevant to what we're doing here together today, but fun information regardless. I hope everybody's doing great. We have been having some great conversations over on Instagram about what I'm calling imposter syndrome, which I feel like that covers a lot of different things. And many of you have said to me, A lot of these truths for yourself. Let's maybe not call them truths. These thoughts that we have that we are going to question their truths here today. It's important to question our thoughts, to not assume that because we have the thought that it is true and meaningful and should lead our lives. No, because the brain Doesn't always help us. It's meant to protect us, not necessarily help us. So you guys know all that, right? So some of the questions that we talked about was, what do you ever feel? Do you ever feel imposter syndrome in your speaking? And 100% of the people said yes, but those are the 100% of the people who responded. I did get a few messages from people, really thoughtful, who said, That phrase does not actually resonate with me because there's other reasons. It's not, it's not that I necessarily feel like an imposter, but I am worried about other things. Okay. All of those worries, all of those fears, all of those baloney ideas that move through our head. They can really take hold and mess with us, whatever you want to call it. And so today what I want to talk about is how to move from that place of fear into courage. Now, sometimes I don't even use the word fear because there are some people who are like, well, I'm not really afraid. I don't really get nervous. But speaking is 80% mental. And if speaking is 80% mental, and it is, because I used to think it was 50% mental, but it's not, it's way more than that, then managing our mind, managing our bodies, managing everything else that holds up the skills is 80% of our job. And so it comes for everybody. Fear, imposter syndrome, nerves, whatever you wanna call it, it comes for us all. And so I wanna share with you what helps you move from fear into courage, or from imposter syndrome into empowerment, from discomfort into action, from sitting on the sidelines to making it happen. Oh yeah, that's all what we are talking about today. And this is leading up to our event, free virtual event on October 6th. You can sign up right here at this link, bemoved.com/sallykoeringzimney. Story Impact. It is called Story Impact, and together in this 4-hour free virtual event, we're gonna help give you the tools needed so that you can confidently step out front and speak your story so that you can leverage the power of that story to grow your impact, your authority, and your revenue. Your story is the heart of your business. And when you lean into it, when you're like, okay, I'm going to figure out what this story is. I'm going to put it to work in my business. And then I'm going to scale. I'm going to scale that story and that message in order to attract more people into my business and to share my message. Well, it starts right here at that event. So I really am excited about it. We've got some amazing speakers. For now, I wanna make sure that we are getting ourselves into the right mindset, the right frame of thinking so that we can actually make good on this. So let's talk about these 3 ideas of things that can really help you shift into action and take you from a place of like, I want to do this, but I'm just there's something holding me back. I was on a call this morning with this amazing woman who has a powerful story. She's building her business and she knows that speaking is gonna be a part of her business, but there's still something kind of holding her back. And that is a completely understandable thing. I have this conversation multiple times a week with people from all over the world. People who are saying to themselves things like, I want to, but I, I, I know I feel this pull. I had this moment up front. It was awesome. I, you know, I was invited to do a thing and it was amazing, but now what? There's this space between where you are and where you're going. And so one of the things that can really help you, that is essential, is to decide for yourself that you are not gonna go it alone. Okay? Because speaking can be an incredibly isolating effort. We're pretty sure everybody else has figured it out. We're pretty sure we're the only ones. In fact, some of the thoughts that you all were sharing about things that hold you back were things like, I'm the only one who struggles with this. The pros don't get nervous. It's not easy and it's not fun. Okay. Those were just the 3 I threw out there and multiple Like lots of more people said it's not easy, it's, or it's not fun, or some of those ideas. Well, part of the reason it's not easy or it feels not easy, we're afraid it's not gonna be easy, we're afraid it's not gonna be fun, is cuz we're doing it alone and we're throwing content spaghetti at the wall. So instead of doing that, what happens if you don't go it alone? What happens if you find a community? Okay, and there's a lot of them out there. Move Your Audience Facebook group. If you find a coach, could be me, could be somebody else. There's a lot of us out there. Find somebody that you connect with, that you feel like gets you, that whose philosophy you can get on board with, and don't go it alone. This summer, my Movers Lab people got together, and this is the second time we've done that, to do our in-person Movers Lab retreat. This retreat is so special, partly because huge ahas happen from this, and I get to coach people in person and help them see themselves and their bodies and their delivery and their content a little bit more clearly and a little differently. That's all amazing, but truly the best part about it is for people to be with each other in this journey. Don't go it alone. Don't go it alone. Speaking is lonely enough. It is courageous and risky. Find people who will cheer you on, help you see yourself differently, and help push you to the next level because there are lots of days where you just don't want to, where you're just like, I, I'm not going to ask for that much money. Well, I know I was supposed to, but I'm just not going to do it. You need somebody else to go, no, nope, don't back off on this now. Go for it. Okay. Don't go it alone. That is the first thing that can help you. You. Get out of wherever you're stuck now into the next thing that is possible for you. Okay. The next thing, this is so important, is to look for evidence. Because here's the deal, I can spend a lot of energy trying to convince you of things. In fact, I do spend a lot of energy trying to convince you of things. Tried to convince you that the world needs your story, that you have everything that you need, that you don't have to become someone else in order to have an impact on stage. But you won't believe me until you have done it yourself. And so we get to a place where we're like, How do we get somebody to do something they haven't done before if they don't believe that they can do it until they've done it? Does that sentence circle make sense? I hope it makes sense to you because it's a really powerful realization for a coach that my job is actually less about convincing you and more about showing you that you have already done it. Even if you haven't done it in exactly the same way. So when people say to me, I'm terrible on camera, and I, and we'll be on Zoom and I'm like, we're on camera together right now and you're doing great. How's this different? They're like, oh, okay, well I guess it's not. There's so much going on in our brains that convinces us of things that are not true. And so what we have to do is look for the evidence of progress. Look for the evidence of your connection. Look for the evidence of how effective you are, or moments when it worked. Now, we, we, doesn't have to be masterpiece moments. It can be the simplest moments, and if you look for that evidence, you will start to see it, and then you will start to believe it, and you will know that it already exists within you. And now it is simply your job to— you did it before, you can do it again. As one of my speakers, Jen Whitmer, says, I did it before, I can do it again. I cannot believe how much that has come up with me recently because of this. You did it before. You can do it again. You've been on camera before many times. You just didn't think of it that way. And you can do it again. You can show up now on camera in this slightly different way. It's not that different. It's really not that different. When people are like, well, I'm, I do workshops, but I don't do keynote speaking. And I'm like, the Venn diagram of workshops and keynote speaking are very overlapped. So when I pull that apart and I say, well, have you told stories in a workshop? Yes. Okay. Now you're just in a different context and you maybe have less time. It's more alike than you realize and you've done it before. You can do it again. Look for the evidence and what changes in your head is now I can't do that. I've never done that before. It's, well, I've done, I've done parts of that before and I did okay. I've done it. I get, I, I can do it. I've done it before. I can do it again. Look for the evidence. It's there. And if you can't find any, that's why we don't go it alone. So you can go ask your fellow people and say, hi. I have lost the belief on this one thing. Can you, can you point me to when I've done that before? Have you ever experienced this with me? Can you help me find the evidence of my progress on this? Right? Part of what we're doing is we are, we're questioning the thoughts that we have and making sure that they're actually true. Because most of the time, the thoughts that we have, they're not, they have nothing to do with truth. They just have to do with beliefs that are keeping us safe, but not allowing us to grow. Thank you, sweet protective thoughts, but you're not helping me right now. And I need to look for the evidence of my growth and my courage right now. Boom! Okay. So we're not gonna go to low, we're gonna look for evidence, and then at some point it comes to a leap. A leap, a moment of, well, ready or not, here I go. The more you can practice doing it anyway, here's how this works. The more you do it anyway, the more evidence you create for having done it. Even if it didn't turn out perfectly, even if in some ways, and even if in most ways it was a disaster, guess what you will have done? You will have done it. You will have learned from it. So you go, let's say you go live, you are distracted, you lose your way, you're kind of like, that was a disaster, nobody showed up. These things happen quite a lot, right? You get to the end of it and you go, okay, well, that didn't go how I wanted it to go. But you know what I know now? I need to put a little more time and energy into promoing this. I need to just take 2 minutes before I start, get really clear on what I'm thinking. It's gonna be better next time. And you know what else you proved to yourself? You survived and it's okay. Didn't have to be awesome in order for it to be valuable. You do it anyway. That helps you find the evidence for your growth and your courage. And underneath all of this, you have this beautiful safety net of other people with you, showing you the way, pushing you into your next level, and helping you see yourself more clearly. That is so powerful and important. Really, these, these pieces here can make a huge difference. And ultimately, speaking happens for those people who show up and do it anyway. It's true. I had a client many years ago, and this is the story I tell lots of people. Who was pretty good. He was fine. He wasn't amazing. I had lots and lots I was working with him on to improve his content and his delivery, but he was confident and bold and said to me, I'm just gonna pitch this conference for a keynote and I'm gonna pitch 15 grand to do this. And I was like, okay, give it a go. And I'm thinking, he doesn't have all of the things that typically people need in order to do that, but he just did it and he got it. Part of the reason he got it is because he asked, he did it anyway. And he himself was like, I, I am seeing enough of what I am doing in other people as keynote speakers. I know I can do that. I've seen that evidence. And he had me as a coach saying, okay, give it a go. Right? Just a little permission to be bold. And so that is what he did. Okay, now, it doesn't always work for everybody. He had some really high-level clients that, in terms of social proof, kind of put him at that level. But truth be told, it mostly happened cuz he had the guts to just try. What is possible for you when you can shift out of a state of, I'm not sure, I don't know how, what is this? I don't wanna let anybody down. The worries and the fear and the clouds, what is possible for you? What happens if we start to usher in some support systems that allow us to believe new things, to imagine bigger possibilities, and to take steps towards a bigger impact and future for you. There are no special unicorns in speaking. This is all learnable. And if you're on the path, you will start to see how these pieces make all the difference. Sometimes you just gotta do it anyway. Gotta look for the evidence. And do not go it alone. We will go farther together. All right. Thank you so much for being here, everybody. I hope this was helpful for you. I want nothing more than more of you to get off the sidelines and to actually make good on your speaking dreams. So you are going to, I know you will, you're gonna come join me for the event. On October 6th. You can do that at bemoved.com/storyimpact. Okay, but I also want to tell you about— I've been offering this resource, and I did 4 of them this morning. They're like— calendar's getting booked up, but I've been doing these clarity calls, and they have been really powerful. And helpful to help people go from this place that you're, where you might be right now. It's like, uh, I just, I want to, but I don't know how. These clarity calls, the whole idea of them is to help you with the how. So it's, it's 10 minutes on my calendar. Truth be told, I'm having trouble sticking to 10 minutes, but that is the goal. 15 minutes. If you took 15 minutes and planned that, that, that is doable. Especially if you do some of the homework that I ask you to do to do these clarity calls. But they, they are a great way for me to quickly— I've been doing this for a long time, so I can quickly hear somebody and kind of diagnose, mm, I think you might need this, or here's some free resources on that. This program is your next step whenever you're ready, or whatever. And I may not be able to help you. But I do want you to get clear on what's next for you, because more than I want you to work with me, I want you to get out there and share your voice and your story. So if working with me helps you do that, awesome. If not, that's totally great. I will be nudging you and cheering you on from here. So come join me for a clarity call. If right now you're like, I don't know, I don't know about that, but I will come check out the that at the event we're going to be talking about some clarity calls. And so my calendar post-event is probably going to be more full than between now and October 6th. So I would encourage you to grab time now on these clarity calls. All right. Thanks for being here. We'll talk soon.
